What are some of the requirement to you are required for a person to become, or claim to be Christian?

Are there some things you look for; that you may try and assess from another person if they are a real Christian? What is the thing you are looking for?

John 1:11-13 LITV
11) He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12) But as many as received Him, to them He gave authority to become children of God, to the ones believing into His name,
13) who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but were born of God.

I don't think it's our job to say who is and who isn't a "real Christian". All we can do in that regard is to share our opinions of others based on our perceptions of them. I don't see that being a good foundation to speak from.

Jesus said that the world would know He sent them by their love for each other.

Much love!

I would agree with you that it is not our job. God knows a believers heart, for the believer heart will already be turned towards Him. There is also the scripture that mentions how you can know a person by their fruits they bear, be them bad fruits or by fruits of love. Which doesn't lead to condemnation or judgement, or anything like that in my opinion.

That seems like one way to know if a person is a believer by the spirit of Christ?

The first thing perhaps needed is a precise definition of what you mean by the word, Christian. With that in mind and understood by anyone else in the discussion you may [or LOL maybe not] be able to communicate and really discuss the matter.

While the word, Christian, is in scripture, the definitions people use are rarely, if ever, stated in one verse. Very often different people, it seems to me, have radically different definitions for that word: Christian. I frequently purpose avoid using the word because I simply do not know what the other person means by it and likely he would not know what I meant by it.

Consider the Strong's entries for it:

Christian:

Cristianovß Christianos (khris-tee-an-os');
Word Origin: Greek, Noun Masculine, Strong #: 5546

  1. Christian, a follower of Christ
KJV Word Usage and Count
Christian

So then if one is a "follower of Christ" he is a Christian? What is required for a person to be one of Christ's followers? Simple, right? Is a follower saved? Is that a momentary salvation for one event or day, or is that a permanent salvation that will never end...? And so forth.

Abiding in the Vine.

Joh 15:1-6 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. (2) Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit. (3) Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. (4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. (5) I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. (6) If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Hello Matthew,
I was going to mention the Fruit of The Spirit but, you beat me to it :D
There are more than a few folks I know personally who "claim" Christianity yet...they couldn't quote even 2 verses from the bible and, they live like the devil. So, we have so many waking around "claiming" to be a follower of Christ yet, are just fine with picking and choosing their pet sins. They are denying the Power thereof! Like one such women I know from H.S. and from Church, she is divorced and still thinks it's okay to have "relations" outside of marriage. o_O So yeah, we CAN know them by their fruits...

Faith, Hope and Love,
And the greatest of these is love..

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.

Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.

Peace be with you!

“Requirements”, you ask? Paul gave us a test that anybody can take at anytime....

Do you Believe and can you say sincerely that “ Jesus is Lord?”

If your answer is “ yes” you have met the “ Requirement”......

This applies primarily to false teachers. In any event, there is no need to be going around inspecting someone else's spiritual fruit (which may not necessarily by visible to anyone but God). You have more than enough on your own plate to address your own issues.

Yes it is a personal relationship with God. You are right about that.

This should be placed on a heading for the forum because there are so many on here, including you Enoch, who have judged and weighed other members up and declared where you think they stand before the Lord..........or perhaps that just been my imagination over the past few years since I joined.

Rita what are some of the fruits of the spirit that you know of? Would like to ask you about your thoughts about what love is, and the fruits of the spirit?

Love, peace, patience, kindness, self control, joy, faithfulness, gentleness, and goodness........however fruit doesn’t just grow by itself, the tree has to be nurtured, cared for by the gardener ( Which is God ) So I believe if we are open to God and allow him to work in our lives good fruit will be produced. Fruit will appear at different rates and in different seasons ..........If a person can look back over their Christian life and see these things coming fourth, then I believe it means we are growing........

That is just your imagination -- unless you can provide actual quotes that prove your point. At the same time false doctrines have indeed been exposed, and will continue to be exposed.

And that is just your opinion .........I was being sarcastic when I stated about it being my imagination. I could actually go back over the passed three years ,if I chose to, and post endless comments.........if you choose to consider that you have never made a judgment of where someone stood before the Lord then go right ahead. I am pretty sure we are all guilty of doing it within our posts, or within our hearts and minds.
I meant it should be a heading to gently remind us of a truth - a message for ALL of us.
