Veterans understanding of 1 Peter 3:19 is like the Mormons and many evangelicals today. Their interpretation of this passage must be false because both teaches that dead people can be taught instruction in righteousness. But the Bible clearly states: "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Heb. 9:27 and "They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth." Isa. 38:18: "the dead know not anything". Eccl 9:5.

The "dead" in 1 Peter 4:6 were alive when preached to by Noah, but dead at the time of Peter's writing.

It would be remiss of me if I didn’t provide a solution to Veterans conundrum.

It is taught that Mans “spirit” is his mind as per Mark 2:8, Luke 1:47,80; 2 Co 7:1 and so on. This mind is certainly imprisoned (compare 1 Tim 4:1 with 1 John 4:1,2,3), not just his body!!! Or, alternatively, "to those who were alive (then), but are now long dead see 1 Peter 4:6 in the prison of death" Isa 42:6,7; 49:9; 61:1; 9:2; Psa 68:18 and Zech 9:11,12.

Of course we all know the Spirit of Christ was preached to many “people” throughout the ages. Noah is the example given See 2 Peter 2:5; Heb 11:7; Gen 6:3

It is my intention to start a seperate thread shortly on this subject.

regardless it is not forever and this is coming from English bibles.
Just because it's worded a little different doesn't mean it's not forever. Nearly every other English Bible says forever. But you already know that. The fact that God would cast humans alive in fire sends a very clear message.

How can the "spirit" go back to God who gave it, Eccl 12:7 and yet be imprisoned in hades?

Does He allow a part of Himself to be tortured forever?

I would really like someone to answer this conundrum.

A little different? You might want to do a "little" etymology especially if you think ages = forever.
We have talk about unending torment several times, on how it is not conducive to;

God's character, God is love. Read 1Cor 13, love never gives up.

His instructions to us on how to treat others, Luke 6:35&36 Jesus said we should love our enemies just like His Father who is kind to the wicked.

With many of the scriptures and prophecies, Isaiah 45:23, John 12:32, Acts 3:21, Phillipians 2:10 just to name a few.

Nor with the sacrifice made by God for our redemption. Christ died in our steed to redeem us, i see no where in scripture where He suffers unending torment for our redemption.

It simply doesn't fit, it is a religious fabrication.

But as I said earlier we have discussed this several times and you remain in denial.

As Winston Churchill once said "there are non so blind as those who can see but refuse to see.

The God of the Bible clearly made the point that He is to be GREATLY feared. You can water it down if you like Jiggy but you're not preaching the Bible. You will be held accountable to God for anyone who goes to Hell because of what you told them. Like I said, I can't lose.

I'm not surprised that you neglected to deal with any of the scriptures I referenced.

Which is worse "watering down" or misrepresenting God's wrath or God's love?

According to you I will be saved regardless! What's your point? Am I going to Hell? How about being consistent?

Matthew 25:41 (NKJV)
41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Why is it "everlasting" Jiggy? Unquenchable? Forever? Eternal?

Ducky,

In quoting Matt 25:41 are you suggesting the Father will send someone who ignored the simple, material needs of their brothers and sisters to burn for eternity?

Do you actually believe this? No really?

Why would you ask that question when the context clearly explains? Anyone who would ignore helping others clearly is not Christian.

Yes or no will suffice.

Enough of your smoke screen. This thread is about the denial Hell. Does Hell exist? The Scriptures say YES!

Hell exists

First mentioned:

For my anger blazes forth like fire and burns to the depths of the grave.* It devours the earth and all its crops and ignites the foundations of the mountains. Deut 32:22 NLT Deut 32:22 YLT Deut 32:22

Footnote:
* Hebrew of Sheol.

The grave is very real.

Indeed Hell exists:

Torment in the flame:

Luke 16:22-31 (NKJV)
The rich man also died and was buried.23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

Again torment:

25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.

Eternal:

26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'

And again torment:

27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'

Because of not believing the Bible:

29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' Many will go to hell for purging and correction. Will you go to hell? Well I don't like to judge people but since you asked I would say it is highly probable.

We have been over this several times it is a misinterpretation of the Greek text.

Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; Matt. 25:41 YLT

Any thoughts on what Rev 1:18 means in terms of your eternal torment theory?

When W.C. Fields was on his deathbed in the hospital, a nurse walked into his room one day and found him reading the Bible.

When she asked him what he was doing, he replied, "Lookin' for loopholes."

Those who want to deny the existance of hell, or acknowledge its existance but ignore what scripture says about it seem to be doing the same thing.

Can we recall what the Master said about himself? I think it went along these lines...John 11:25

"The wages of Sin is Death" Rom 6:23

Wages are paid only to those who labour: those who in their toil "sow to the flesh" Gal 6:8 will be paid for the labour they perform; and the pay for this kind of labour is "corruption," or "death unto death" death ending in corruption, as the Apostle, saith, " shall of the flesh reap corruption," and of such he says, in another place, "whose end is corruption:" so that "death," "corruption," and " destruction" are " the wages of sin," which everyone is fairly entitled to " who loves darkness rather than light," and refuses to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be delivered from our sins, and from a resurrection unto a second death and corruption, which shall be consummated in a fiery (painful) destruction, constituting the destiny of unbelievers, cowards, abominable characters, and whosoever loves and invents a lie.

Accepting Jesus Christ has possession of the keys of hades (grave) and of death; it is he alone who is able to draw us out of the grave and grant life eternal.

This of course is not speaking of rescuing immortal souls from everlasting torment, but from the dissolution of the grave.

The pagan tradition of the soul’s immortality, not only renders null and void the resurrections to life and judgement, but is equally subversive of the personal appearance of Messiah on earth again.

The immortality of souls makes a present heaven and hell necessary for their reception at demise ; this arrangement renders resurrection superfluous, and therefore useless; and the setting this aside abrogates the Second Advent of Jesus. This will be obvious, when you consider for what purpose he is to reappear.

Ί will come again,' said he to his Apostles, 'and receive you to myself.’ 'We look for the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven, who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like into the body of his glory according to ' the energy by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself.' Phil. 3: 21. 'This same Jesus, who is taken up into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11. 'Whoever shall be ashamed of me, and of ray words, of him shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when he shall come in, his own glorv, and in his Father's, and of the Holy ‘Angels. Luke 9:27; 'thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. Luke 14:14.
