Yes, I read about the so-called Counter-Reformation many years ago. I would like to have seen that 20 page preface.

I have a Douay-Rheims I keep for reference. It was published in 1898 with only 1½ pages in the preface. Its preface gives a very brief reason for why they included what is known as the the apocrypha with no other direct criticism of the Protestants.

Instead of using the word, Protestant(s) they use these words: "...the version always recognized by the Church contains many more books than that used by other than Catholics"... "...it was the version used by the Saviour and his Apostles and by the Church from her infancy and translated into Latin, known as the under the title of Latin Vulgate, and ever recognized as the true version of the written word of God..."

Therefore the apostles have authority to send more apostles or successors!
