I Agree Good Post!

(Soul Sleep) a false teaching of (Ellen G. White) in 7th Day Adventism, and (Charles Taze Russell) of the Jehovah's Witnesses

What is soul sleep?
by Matt Slick | Jul 4, 2009

Soul sleep is the teaching that when a person dies that his soul “sleeps” until the time of the future resurrection. In this condition, the person is not aware or conscious. The Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Seventh-day Adventists hold to this doctrine as do most conditionalists (those who say that the wicked are judged and don’t exist anymore). But the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach annihilation. This means that after death a person ceases to exist. At the future resurrection, they maintain that the soul is made again. Basically, it is a re-creation of the individual. The Seventh-day Adventists teach at the soul is simply inert and resides in the memory of God.
The record tells us there are two ingredients in the human creature.

1 ...Dust of the Earth.....the basic elements
2....Breath (Spirit) of God....the animating force (power)
...the resulting product a soul (human being)

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.
Note: ...he didn't receive a soul, he became one.

I don't think this is difficult to understand and it certainly isn't complex.

At death the reverse happens, the dust returns to the dust and the breath (the animating energy) returns to God. This energy is not an entity in itself anymore than the electricity that lights up a globe is an entity. When you turn the power off the light goes nowhere; it just ceases to be.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

All other views on this matter have been adopted from paganism.
We are mortal, meaning, subject to death. We certainly are not immortal.

1 Timothy 6:16 Only God has immortality.

"Mortality" applies only to the body. So you are conveniently ignoring the soul and spirit, which are IMPERISHABLE. That is not pagan belief (even though pagans believe in the afterlife). That is Bible truth.

Also because the body is mortal, God has promised to resurrect His saints, and give them immortal bodies. So what do you think will reside in those immortal bodies other than the imperishable souls and spirits which are presently in Heaven?

The Soul Of Man Is Immortal As Gods Words Teach Below, The Wicked Will Be Judged To (Conscious Eternal Torment)

Wikipedia: Annihilationism
is directly related to the doctrine of Christian conditionalism, the idea that a human soul is not immortal unless it is given eternal life. Annihilationism asserts that God will eventually destroy the wicked, leaving only the righteous to live on in immortality. Thus those who do not repent of their sins are eternally destroyed because of the inherent incompatibility of sin with God's holy character. Seventh-day Adventists posit that living in eternal hell is a false doctrine of pagan origin, as the wicked will perish in the lake of fire. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that there can be no punishment after death because the dead cease to exist

Annihilationism is a false doctrine as scripture clearly teaches below, the soul of the wicked will experience (Conscious Eternal Torment)

Revelation 14:9-11KJV
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Enoch you state the Soul/Spirit of the dead believers are in heaven?

Just a question, dosent scripture teach that upon death one will be carried by the Angel's to (Abraham's Bosom) as depicted below in Luke?

Do you equate Abraham's Bosom as Heaven?

Luke 16:19-31KJV
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

I believe when we die we are ushered into the presence of God. Here is my reasoning as to why there is no "soul sleep" upon death.

Absent the body, present with the Lord. (Apostle Paul) 2 Corinthians 5:8

It is appointed for men to die, then comes the judgment. Hebrews 9:27

Today you will be with me in paradise. (Jesus to the thief on the cross)

The beheaded saints under the altar of God pleading with Him to avenge them. They are not in soul sleep. (Revelation 6:10)

The story of the rich man and Lazarus. They were conscious after death. Perhaps this parable should not be taken literally, mind, I'm just throwing it out there.

What do you think? Please use scripture to justify your position. God bless!
Your belief is correct...and to further support it consider the day of Jesus transfiguration....Moses and Elijah were there speaking to Jesus....Moses died a physical death...so how do you explain that? Spirit or soul whichever you use is alive and well and in the presence of God.

This was effective BEFORE the resurrection of Christ. However, at His resurrection, the Lord "took captivity captive" and all the OT saints who were in Sheol/Hades were taken to Heaven (the New Jerusalem). After the ascension of Christ all the NT saints go directly to Heaven. See Hebrews 12:22-24.

Thanks for the response, Can't say I disagree

The souls seen under the altar below would be a good explanation for your claim, and I agree

Revelation 6:9-11KJV
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

you are in error Enoch, not knowing the scripture or the power of God.

No it is you who is in error by trying to ignore what the Bible says about souls and spirits. To be absent from the body is to be LITERALLY present with the Lord in Heaven. Or does that not appeal to you in the least? All the saints in Heaven are described as "a great cloud of witnesses" (Heb 12:1). Witnesses are (1) alive, (2) alert, (3) observant, (4) able to relate what they have witnessed with their own eyes.

Have you checked the eternal fire lately with which the scripture says Sodom and Gomorrah is to be burning? Jude 1:7
If you haven't, let me tell you, those cities were well and truly consumed....there is no fire there today.

The expression 'eternal fire' is a Hebrew idiom for, 'it does not go out till all the fuel supporting it is consumed'. It's like the fireman who went to the house fire and couldn't put it out saying, it just burnt forever.

To use scriptures like you have in the one above, grossly misrepresents its intent and reveals poor judgement and ignorance.

No one is sent to hell until after the Great White Judmemt where all will be judged according to how they lived based on His Word.

QUESTION

What is the Great White Throne Judgment?

ANSWER

The great white throne judgment is described in Revelation 20:11-15 and is the final judgment prior to the lost being cast into the lake of fire. We know from Revelation 20:7-15 that this judgment will take place after the millennium and after Satan is thrown into the lake of fire where the beast and the false prophet are (Revelation 19:19-20; 20:7-10). The books that are opened (Revelation 20:12) contain records of everyone’s deeds, whether they are good or evil, because God knows everything that has ever been said, done, or even thought, and He will reward or punish each one accordingly (Psalm 28:4; 62:12; Romans 2:6; Revelation 2:23; 18:6; 22:12).

Also at this time, another book is opened, called the “book of life” (Revelation 20:12). It is this book that determines whether a person will inherit eternal life with God or receive everlasting punishment in the lake of fire. Although Christians are held accountable for their actions, they are forgiven in Christ and their names were written in the “book of life from the creation of the world” (Revelation 17:8). We also know from Scripture that it is at this judgment when the dead will be “judged according to what they had done” (Revelation 20:12) and that “anyone’s name” that is not “found written in the book of life” will be “thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

The fact that there is going to be a final judgment for all men, both believers and unbelievers, is clearly confirmed in many passages of Scripture. Every person will one day stand before Christ and be judged for his or her deeds. While it is very clear that the great white throne judgment is the final judgment, Christians disagree on how it relates to the other judgments mentioned in the Bible, specifically, who will be judged at the great white throne judgment.

To be absent from the body is to be LITERALLY present with the Lord in Heaven.

Says you.

The Bible says no such thing.

Paul says we are WILLING to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

This isn’t doctrine.

It’s wishful thinking.

Well, it nice to know that at least we agree on something.....:D
I'm sure we agree on much....like, gravity makes apples fall and procreation is not just fun for humans....let me think, there must be dozens more things we agree on.....however, there is one thing you are not aware of......and that is, I have the superior knowledge! :)

I knew you'd get a chuckle out of that! :) :)

It’s wishful thinking.
Was it wishful thinking for Stephen to ask Jesus to receive his spirit? And did Christ immediately welcome him to Heaven? What Paul said was FACT. What you believe is FANTASY. Since Paul called all the saints in Heaven "witnesses" (Heb 12:1) it is clear that you know nothing about this important matter.
