Many Christians and majority of the Catholics alike, I believe, have a wrong interpretation of the above passage.

I believe that Jesus was NOT pointing to Peter but to Himself (Psalms 95:1). Why? Because the gates of hell is upon everyone as soon as they be born. (Psalms 58:3).

How did Jesus build His church so that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it? By going to the cross! And defeating Satan.

Has Peter done anything for his church except deny it three times?

Furthermore, Jesus said: "And other sheep I have , which are NOT of this fold (Israel): them (Gentiles) also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. (John 10:16)
