Why does God support the wicked yet condemn the righteous? Those who are reprehensible,
those who continue to perpetuate a callus disregard for life. I know of people who have impregnated women and then caused them to have an abortion because of their lack of moral responsibility. I know of alcoholics who blaspheme God, and those who work manipulative dishonest jobs and earn big money and still live a good life, even those who are self confessed atheists and still live prospress lives. Yet in spite of all these Godless attributes they still have homes to live in, jobs to go to, cars to drive and money to spend.

But then I know of many clean decent living christians true to the faith who suffer through hardships and poverty, who have no homes to live in, cars or money to spend, and many who are even destitute with many sorrows. So how is this to be understood? Why does God support the wicked yet condemn the righteous?

I don't believe God "supports" the wicked.
What he does do is allow them to reap their rewards in this life.
Unlike the righteous and the poor that have their eternal rewards in the next.

Why does God allow this? Because He places a higher premium on our freedom than on our shaky grasp of morality. Or so it seems to me, anyway.

Best wishes, 2RM.

Why does God support the wicked yet condemn the righteous?
God never supports the wicked nor does he condemn the righteous...that is unthinkable!
When Jesus was tempted by the devil, he gave away a secret. Satan offered Jesus "all the Kingdoms of the world" in exchange for one act of worship.

"And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory, for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I want. 7 Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.” 8 Jesus replied to him, “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

Do you see what the devil said?...."it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I want."
There is only one who could have given world rulership over to the devil...and that was God himself. But why would he do that? Because the devil had turned mankind away from God by slandering him and lying about his character.
The humans chose to believe that liar and so God handed the human race over to the god they chose....to show them what a world without God in it would look like.....but he did not abandon them or leave them without hope. He left his instructions for them, but did not force himself on them. That way individuals can seek God and find him even in a wicked world if their hearts impels them.

Jesus told them..."Two sparrows sell for a coin of small value, do they not? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered."

God is observing very closely everything that is going on, including satan's attempts to get us to abandon faith in God. Remember the trials of Job? Who brought those trials on that righteous man? And if we are all targets of the devil like Job was....what are we telling God about our faith?
Are we going to serve God only when the going is good...or are we prepared to show God that we will love him no matter what the devil does to us? Are we going to hang in there or are we going to curse God for all our troubles?

The terrible injustices and tragedy that we see can seem overwhelming, but God has it all recorded so that precedents will be set for all eternity to come. That way no 'satan' will ever be allowed to interfere with God's purpose again.

Revelation 21:2-4 will then be our reality....
"And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

That is the future....God will undo all the damage.....eliminating everything that causes pain and suffering....and the rulership of his Kingdom will restore God's first purpose for this earth and mankind upon it. Our brief life of trouble will not even be a distant memory compared to the eternity of happiness that awaits the faithful ones.

It's the question even Solomon asks.....as do many.
Our (human) view is too short and too narrow. We see too little for too short a time......we judge God poorly. There is more going on than appears to our limited comprehension.

here's something to consider:- God is more pained by witnessing the abuse of his creatures on a daily basis than our pea brains are capable of understanding. Give him credit.....he is in the solution business.....even when you are blind to it.

How can we be sure its always the devil perpetrating our hardships, how much does God think we can take experiencing life's horrors before our faith is effected to the point where we then turn against him? The trial and test in this life is often devastatingly hard, filled with much sorrow even to the point of it seeming cruel, and that at times wish you had never been born.

Yet in all this God professes his love for us in saying that He so loved the world that he gave his only son to die for us, and as such are encouraged to give thanks, praise, worship and honour to God which seems paradoxically confusing when it's God himself who has placed us under such an enduring test. I remember experiencing a time of great despair a complete loss and absence of all hope, and even then God did not answer prayer,

How much then does God think we can take?

If you're a Christian, don't forget you were once a child of Satan heading for hell fire. If you want mercy from God, show mercy. ALL Christians were once children of the Devil.

He is just as patient with everyone else as he was with us when we were lost:

"15Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation..." 2 Peter 3:15

"4Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?" Romans 2:4

But also, our sufferings are working for us an eternal glory. As sons of God we are disciplined now, in this age, while the wicked know no restraint. But the day will come when the opposite will be true. They will suffer while we are relieved. They aren't getting away with anything. Read Psalm 73...

12Behold, these are the wicked—
always carefree as they increase their wealth.13Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure;
in innocence I have washed my hands.14For I am afflicted all day long
and punished every morning.15If I had said, “I will speak this way,”
then I would have betrayed Your children.16When I tried to understand all this,
it was troublesome in my sight17until I entered God’s sanctuary;
then I discerned their end.
Psalm 73:12-17

The trial and test in this life is often devastatingly hard filled with much sorrow even to the point of it seeming cruel and that at times wish you had never been born.
Job is in the Bible because he is the prime example of what a human can bear when their faith is strong.....but what if we are not as strong as Job was?

1 Corinthians 10:12-13...the apostle Paul counsels us not to rely on ourselves.....
"So let the one who thinks he is standing beware that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has come upon you except what is common to men. But God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out so that you may be able to endure it."
God knew what Job could bear and that is why he allowed the devil to go that far with him......but for those who are not as strong as Job, God will not allow the devil to take us beyond our limit. Isn't that faith strengthening in itself?
If God is allowing something to happen to his faithful ones, then he is telling them that they CAN do this.

Yet in all this God professes his love for us in saying that He so loved the world that he gave his only son to die for us, and as such are encouraged to give thanks, praise, worship and honour to God which seems paradoxically confusing when it's God himself who has placed us under such an enduring test. I remember experiencing a time of great despair a complete loss and absence of all hope, and even then God did not answer prayer
There is only one thing that blocks our prayers to God.....having the wrong attitude as to where our suffering is coming from.
If we have availed ourselves of the knowledge contained in God's word, we will have a full understanding as to why people suffer.

1 John 5:18-19...
"We know that everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin, but the one born from God [Jesus] watches him, and the wicked one cannot take hold of him. 19 We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. "

How much then does God think we can take?
He doesn't "think"....he "knows".
Attitude is everything. Some people treat God like he needs to grant wishes as if he was some kind of genie....
If we want God to do things for us, we have to ask ourselves...."what are we doing for him?"

We are part of the greatest object lesson in human history. The devil has been granted control of this world in order to prove that the lies he told in Eden were true. There is a great court case going on in which the devil was invited to furnish his 'witnesses' and God would in turn furnish his 'witnesses' to testify in his behalf. Whose side are we supporting? This is demonstrated by our attitude. How did Job feel about his situation? Did he once blame God for his troubles and shake his fist at him? Or did he show an attitude of great humility and cop it all on the chin, thinking that whatever was going on, there must be a good reason for God to allow it?

We are all like Job to a greater or lesser degree.....so how are we answering the devil's accusations that we will only serve God when the going is good? He said that when the going gets tough, we will all leave God and even curse him.....what answer are we personally providing?

God doesn't condemn the righteous. As for the wicked, they will experience God's discipline, if they don't repent.

Interesting. Do you consider, then, that belief and righteousness are synonymous, and similarly unbelief and wickedness?

Best wishes, 2RM.

No, I don't think belief and righteousness are synonymous. Satan knows God exists, but he isn't righteous, is he? Same answer for the second question.

I think you're right. Nevertheless, there are many Christians who think that salvation is by faith alone, and deliberately elide faith and righteousness. For what it's worth though, my own belief is that salvation is an ontological and ethical matter, rather than an epistemological one. In other words it's about who we are and what we do, rather than what we believe or know. Christianity, in this view, is helpful because because it is easier to be and do good as a believer than as an unbeliever. Or so I have found, anyway.

Best wishes, 2RM.

This encapsulates my experiential faith with God right now. For a number of years there have been continual hardships from every side, the death of a wife, loss of business, ill health and poverty all of which have brought great despair and desolation. Such circumstances have caused me to now consider if this has been Gods will by an enduring test of faith? or just unfortunate? As you put it, do i shake a fist? or by faith continue to endure.

Again, how do i know if all this loss and suffering has been a test of faith from God?

I am so sorry for your losses. But the entire world seems to me to be an enduring test of character. All we Christians can do is show, by our example, the nature of virtue and the meaning of love, whatever might befall us.

Best wishes, 2RM.
