@Marilyn C Thanks for your comment - and poll vote, above.

So did your niece ever show you any of her portfolio of designs that she did? and are any of them faith based?

Like you imply, it's so very widespread now; some ppl still claim it's not lady-like:

But I don't think this is really tenable now, do you?

It's done so widely now, as Nancy said:

Hi farouk,

My niece doesn`t live near us and we don`t see her much at all. She makes up her own designs I hear, but I don`t think they would be Christian type ones. I don`t like tattos and think they are not what God would have us do to our bodies. However it is not up to us to `clean the outside of the vessel,` the Lord does that when someone turns to Him, (as I know you would know).

regards, Marilyn.

I wonder is Leviticus still in play or not?
Leviticus 19:28
You must not make any cuts in your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
@BeyondET An adjacent verse seems to say about not trimming beards; do preachers shave? and if they do, maybe they are admitting that they are New Testament believers rather than Old Testament Jews in the land under the law.....

@Marilyn C Think also of the situation of a Christian woman with the name of a non-Christian ex-bf tattooed.

Some legalists might try to forbid her from going back to the tattoo artist to have the name, e.g., "BILL", changed to something such as "BIBLE", in order to reflect her faith rather than be condemned to having those past ex-bf memories with her permanently on her skin.

Yet some ppl are indeed so legalistic that they would actually prefer a Christian woman to remain inked up with the name of an ex-bf rather than have it changed to something faith based (as well as it being none of their business also...)

I'm sure your niece would have clients who wanted an existing tattoo of some nature or other changed to something else.

This is why I wouldn't recommend it, I have two myself and regret it.

Our bodies are God's temple.

Just remove it, if it bothers you that much, that's why I never got anyone's name tattooed on me.

My son, stepson and stepdaughter all have tattoos.
@RLT63 Do you think there is a case for mothers and fathers talking to 17/18 year olds about what to expect at the tattoo parlor, best practices, what may be sensible to avoid, etc.? maybe even fit in a non-committal tattoo parlor visit, whether as a cautionary or guiding experience?

@No Pre-TB FYI.........did you see/ vote in the recent poll, above?
I only saw it because you linked it. I voted no, I would not support my child in that endeavor. Live in the world, don’t be part of the world. What testimony would the child have? How do they present themselves as holy, called out, a priest of God ? Does this conflict with scripture in the OT; making markings on your flesh and things of the dead. I’d council the person to pray about and seek answers in God’s word.

I suppose a question would be, are there jobs that a Christian should not take? And why?

@No Pre-TB

Thanks a lot for your comment.

Appreciated.

I guess it could be said that these days it's often conservative ppl who get tattoos - many of them faith based, FYI:

almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them for witness tool reasons, maybe.

But I guess in your mind none of these factors would cancel out what you said earlier.

Thanks again for your comment.

@Charlie24 Thank-you for your participation in the poll! :)

(Would you care to give your rationale to the way you voted in the poll?)

Lev. 19:28 is all I need to know.

Tattoo's, piercing's, etc., are pagan acts! God wanted Israel to be set apart from such.

It doesn't just apply to ancient Israel, it applies to any child of God.

My children will never have my permission for these things, just the way I see it!

I guess one could also say that the adjacent verse in Leviticus seems to say about not trimming one's beard; do preachers shave? if they do, then maybe they are acknowledging that they are NT Christians under grace rather than OT Jews in the land under the law.

(Maybe your children are not yet at the sort of age when they might get tattooed; but anyway, if they never get any tattoos, then more power to them....)

Hi @Dropship So do you feel your recent question about tattoos was satisfactorily answered? :)

If you mean this one-
"What does the board think about ladies having tattoos, or is it it mostly men who have tatts?"
Yes there were quite a mixed bag of replies..:)
