I had thoughts about this. I feel I have the Holy Spirit as a Christian because as I go on living in life, I feel convictions and even a nudge if I was doing the wrong thing like God is telling me something and telling me it's wrong and not to do it anymore, but I also feel empty as in what to talk about in regards to God since I have been feeling unmotivated in reading the bible and doing things like that ever since I was on a psychiatric medication which I'm withdrawing from and don't think I need anymore as something else natural helped me. So I've been analyzing whether I have the Holy Spirit or not and whether I am one of the chosen. I think the answer sounds like I am one of the chosen if I have the Holy Spirit but that I'm currently not getting ahead from how much I know already, what do you think? And do you feel you have the Holy Spirit and why? interested in knowing about that too. Thanks

A lot of christians like to think they have the holy spirit, but only God knows for sure, so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best..:)
You're a Christian, so that means you've got a great chance of having the HS and making it through the pearlies, but nonchristians have got absolutely zero chance and are going up the spout..:)

So I've been analyzing whether I have the Holy Spirit or not and whether I am one of the chosen.
You might be better off just trusting God with the "chosen in Him before the foundation of the world" stuff and letting the Holy Spirit do what the Holy Spirit quietly does.

(Now how did I get all this lint in my navel?)

Many years ago when we first heard about the Holy Spirit as new Christians, my husband asked one of the men in our fellowship how he would know. The man just laughed and said. 'Oh, you'll know.'

He knew because he felt God tell him to go to the church's housegroups and tell them a certain message. He got permission from the vicar and with me supporting him in prayer he went to all three groups on the same night. People wept.

I knew because I began so sing in tongues and was also given the interpretation which turned out to be a personal prophecy for my life. And we have both experienced other manifestations as well over the years.

Now I'm definitely not saying that everyone will have the same experiences but you will know.

Is having the Holy Spirit a feeling?? Or is it hearing Him speak to you?

Jn 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

From both what I read in the Scriptures and, more importantly, from by personal experience we should be hearing "words" spoken to our spirit that belong to Jesus Christ and come from His Holy Spirit.

Now perhaps if I am a bit "dull" of hearing with my spiritual ears because I don't practice hearing with my spiritual ears or I am new to the Lord, then those words might, and probably do come across as "feeling". I also know that happens with me when I am just not paying attention to Him. Which is to say that I get busy with work, thinking about other things, and talking to other people so that when the Lord speaks to be via His Holy Spirit I just kind of pick up a feeling that He is trying to get my attention. When that happens I seek Him by asking Him something like "Did you say.... , Lord?"

So what about the OP?

Well, I like it!!!!!!!!!

What I read in the OP tells me, exactly what the person wrote:

. I think the answer sounds like I am one of the chosen

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT!

The person asked the Lord:

whether I am one of the chosen

And they got an answer saying they were!!

That people is exactly how faith in Jesus Christ works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You believe that He is there, so you think that He might be talking to you and ask Him a question because you believe He is there, and you get an answer!!!!

So, in the OP we are reading the honest thoughts of a real Christian!!

Yet they are still asking about it being a "feeling"??

What that tells me, is that they indeed know the Lord Jesus Christ and they believe He is there for them to ask a question of, but they don't practice that much!

That is not rare in the church, but it should be. From my experience around the church most Christians don't seek the Lord for answers too often. Because of that they wind up getting feelings instead of words when they do hear from the Lord. Which is to say the most Christians have dull hearing because we (Christians in General) don't practice using our spiritual senses! So, we don't have a lot of faith that Jesus is there with us. So, we read a thread "Do you feel like you have the Holy Spirit", as opposed to a thread like "What have you been hearing from the Holy Spirit today?"

Face it - in general - we Christians (His chosen people) are people of little faith! And because faith comes from hearing a word from Jesus Christ, it is a direct result of us not practicing using our spiritual senses.

Now this may sound like I am getting onto the writer of the OP - I am not!! I am trying to point out the potential His church has if we in general start actually practicing listening to Him!!!

Do we even encourage people to seek HIm and listen to Him everyday called "Today". The authors of the Bible do, but what about us. Are we preaching Jesus Christ who speaks to us via His Holy Spirit as the Word of God - meaning we should be hearing from Him in words not feelings?

So my intent when I come to this forum is to encourage (of course there is something written about the rod) us Christians (i"ncluding me) to seek the words (not feelings but words) that He speaks to us via His Holy Spirit!!!

The author of the OP, in the OP told us the words she heard from the WORD OF GOD (Jesus Christ) via His Holy Spirit!!!

The author or the OP heard that they were "one of the chosen" Those are words not feelings!! Believe it!! Believe in Him who spoke to you via His Holy Spirit to your spirit in "words" not feeling but "words"!! You are "one of the chosen"!! Those are the words you heard by faith in Him, so don't let the devil take them away from Him. The first words that snake said in the garden were "Did God really say?"

Don't listen to the snake!! Believe in your own testimony and believe the Word of God who said in words to you, that you picked up in your spirit. that you are "one of the chosen" Believe it! God really did say it to you!! It was not just a feeling - it was the Holy Spirit speaking the words of the Lord your God Jesus Christ spoken to you personally!!

So now, as a chosen one, should you not get to asking Him more questions and listen more - like everyday called "Today"? Of course we all should!! We have the Lord our God with us at all times, so let us all start practicing hearing the words He speaks to us via His Holy Spirit!!

I have a few supporting verses below.

Heb 5:11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

So, we get our growth by asking Him more questions and hearing his answers by faith. Let's do that!

Jn 16:13,14 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

So note, the Holy Spirit speaks!!! He takes the words of God which belong to the Son, Jesus Christ, and discloses them to us!

Rev 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Too often we think of the Bible as the Word of God, but it is not God speaking to us personally, it was what God said to those who wrote the Scriptures. They were telling us that we too need to personally listen to the Lord like they did! And we can to that. We can hear the words Jesus Christ has for us, but it takes faith in Him, meaning we believe He is always with us to speak to us!

Is 1:2 Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; For the LORD speaks, ....

There has always been this problem believing the Lord speaks to us, That is partly due to that snake!

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said ...."

Those were the first four words that snake said, and they are all about doubting (the opposite of faith) that God speaks to us, even in specific words! Honestly, I can see too much doubt in the OP. Isn't that why the words He spoke started to being thought of as feelings? Yeah, I know it is that small voice that comes across like thoughts, but words give us thoughts. We see "STOP" written on a sign and we get the thought that we need to stop. So we see a Stop sign and get the feeling I should stop, but it came from a word "Stop". Of course, if I don't pay close attention the sign just gave me a feeling though the word "Stop" was easy to see. So it that the Lord speaks to us in words and they give us thoughts which we might think are feelings but there were words behind it if we just pay attention!

Is 30:21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.

That is how we should be walking and talking with the Lord! That is the objective, but perhaps we are not there yet. I'm not! I only hear from the Lord about a dozen times a day. But I have gone around yard sales with Him while He told when and where to turn to the right or to the left. So it can be just like Isaiah wrote. He obviously was better at hearing the Lord than me, but I am a work in progress, like all His chosen people are!

Great thread from "thelord's pearl"

Romans 10:9 'That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.'
Jesus said that when He goes back to the Father, there will be another Helper (the Holy Spirit) so we will have that so I was just wondering since not everyone will be saved if they confess that He is Lord (IN NAME ONLY) if they feel they have the Holy Spirit or not. And that just bc they have the Holy Spirit, it doesn't mean they are one of the chosen probably. They have to work for it through faith in Jesus Christ and through the uttering of the Holy Spirit.

Pearl, based on my own experience and discussions with other Christians, I'm not sure the Helper always makes His presence that obvious. There have been some experiences which I can look back on and say, "Ooooohhhhhh, is that what (or Who) that was?" But no tongues of fire descending from Heaven. So, I praise God for giving others the gift of overt experience of the Spirit's presence (and confess to the sin of Envy), but I have to submit for consideration that we don't always know. And so encourage brothers and sisters who have not (yet?) had such experiences.

When we feel out of the Spirit and into the flesh it is time to make some changes…

In the Spirit - Impossible to sin
In the Flesh - Frequently to sin

In the Spirit - Sinless - Paved by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ
In the Flesh - Sinful - Time to evaluate my surroundings! Especially in finding a Spirit filled church!

“Evangelion” (that we call the gospel) is a Greek word, and signifies good, merry, glad and joyful tidings, that makes a man’s heart glad, and makes him sing, dance and leap for joy. - William Tyndale

It was nice to have attended the Indian Valley Church of God this past Sunday night where there was a wonderful Spirit among the pastor and congregation. Now... I am not Church of God or recommending any kind of denomination. But this pastor was right on the money on his thoughts os saved, sanctified, and being filled with the Holy Spirit! Even speaking in tongues in the delivery!

If you have ever sharply rebuked a subversive person, you have the Holy Ghost!

“Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.” (Acts 13:9-11)

Prophesying and exalting the things of God are signs as well.

Get to know the word.

I was not talking about fire descending from Heaven. I was just talking about that I guess you would call it invert experience like I'm in a container and I have convictions from the Bible that I can't sin or do something that's wrong, He would tell me the instance or situation that I'm wrong in and even give me this nudge not to do it anymore. So I was asking also in this thread what other's experiences were that if they felt they had the Holy Spirit and also if it means you are one of the chosen. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, that's kinda what I meant by the "Ohhhh, so that's what that was!" experiences. Though usually I can only see it that way in the rear-view mirror.

r u sure? how about those who have powers but r only in name?
There can be counterfeit powers not of the Holy Spirit. One has to be a truly re-born Christian to receive the Holy Spirit.

Simon the sorcerer in Samaria is said to have “believed and was baptized” at the preaching of Philip (Acts 8:13). But later, when Simon offers the apostles money to have their ability to impart the Holy Spirit (verses 18–19), he is rebuked sternly by Peter: “May your money perish with you. . . . You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God”

My heart is right before God. I try my best to be the best Christian I can be.
Oh bless you, I never doubted for one minute that your heart isn't right with God.

The post was to illustrate that even if people want the Holy Spirit, he will not dwell in those who are not right with God. And the only way to be right with God is to be reconciled to him through Jesus.

Not everyone who believes in God has that Saving Faith.
