One of the cases made it to the supreme court, but Justice Roberts decided correctly, if not unjustly, that further investigation may result in overturning the election. This may have resulted in Trump being elected, which would result in the burning of cities. I speculate it may also have lead to a civil war and then a world war once China got involved.
I agree there would have been riots. But maybe there are enough more of those who desire truth to prevail who would not let it continue.

It's like you said, if it were a fail loss, then yes, it would be respected. And I think that was a big part of why we didn't see the same kinds of protests as say in Brazil at Lula's election result. There was that nagging question, maybe he really did win.

But with more and more evidence revealed not only of election fraud but also all the other governmental overreach, maybe if SCOTUS has ruled the election invalid, maybe the people would stand up and say "Enough!"

I'm watching all of this like a clock telling me how close we are. There seems to be a spiritual darkness that is becoming pervasive over everything, from the government to the store to the doctor's office to the school to everywhere. Visible by it's fruit.

Jesus said the Spirit is like the wind that moves the trees, actually given them life as the wind moves across the leaves. The "spirit of this age" seems more like a desert blast that leaves everything dry and dead.

Much love!

I followed the cases closely, and the reports surrounding them. I am confident in my understanding of them.

You are in error, if Trump were re-elected it would have resulted in wide spread domestic terrorism by demon possessed leftists. When poled a majority of them would rather be wiped out by a meteor than have Trump for another term.
That was clearly the case even when Trump was president, near the end of his term. They started to rally and cause mayhem.

It was not "leftists" that stormed the Capitol and tried to overhtrow the Constitutionally-mandated process.

It is dishonest to say the capital was stormed when entry to the capitol was granted by police, and those who entered held all the fury of a tourist.

But this discussion about the election is overshadowing the thread, detracting from the discussion about spiritual motivation and discernment, which is actually of potential benefit to the hearers where as disputes about the election are not.

Further discussion about the election is prohibited in this thread.

I assume that the prohibition applies to you also. You have the last word in post #45? Very clever.

How does one who has tunnel vision get to see laterally?.....definitely not through argument but possibly by acquiring the ability to shut up and listen.
It was the lack of hearing and listening that afflicted the culture in Jesus day (and he spoke to it) It is no different today.

Spiritual discernment can be applied to any idea. And from that the spirit or spirits behind it exposed. All the way down to the roots. Sort of like an etymology.
I think I sort of see Some examples of this in the Bible. For one, Solomon and the two women each saying a baby was theirs.

Good thread.:)

If we look at this biblical example Solomon used the qualities of motherhood to expose the true mother of the child. A true mother would love and so protect their child and the false mother only covet the child not caring about its wellbeing.

Okay. So a spiritual motivation of covetousness? Trying to take what belongs to someone else is also the opposite of love for neighbor. So…hatred?

Covetousness is more of a primary cause. It at least takes apathy towards ones neighbor to desire what they have and be willing to deprive them of it. You wouldn't want what your neighbor has because of apathy.

Envy on the other hand is seeking to deprive something from someone else because you hate for them to have it. Hatred is the primary cause for envy.

It’s harder than I first thought to examine. I understood your op, and I agreed it would be a valuable exercise to categorize root motivations so as to attack or defense tactics. So it’s a training of the hands for war? So…as root motivations/etymology we are saying along the lines of the 7 deadly vices/ movements of the heart? And knowing the fruits of the flesh can aid for categorizing.
But as for the etymology - pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, sloth.

So if I determine that I did something with a heart motivation of greed, my attack would be the practice of and prayer for…generosity? And a war tactic could be to treat my flesh roughly, along the lines of, if you don’t shut up I will be so generous as to give it ALL away!

And I see some value in your exercise as to, by understanding myself I am understanding human nature and if I see the movements of my own heart, I will have more patience and compassion with others rather than hating others for what is in them since it is in myself as well.

It’s a good exercise. We don’t know ourselves well a lot of the time.

I figure all things come down to selfishness as far as sin. And love of God and others combats that selfishness.

I think selfishness is the habit, vice or behavior and greed would be iforrests “etymological root?”
Its a more difficult exercise than it first seems.

Men have long thought about, like you just did, what is the “all things come down to?” They usually arrive at pride I think, because the old saints have said if you grow in humility (opposite of pride) then you automatically grow in all the virtues.

I don't really know about other people, but selfishness is what I see. God showed us in the sheep and goats to be selfless in order to be saved. To help others instead of helping yourself. And that seems to be Isaiah's message too. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because they didn't help the poor and had sexual sins. Sexual sins could also come down to selfishness.

But I can't say what is the root of someone else's problems. Selfishness is just what I see.

I don't really know about other people
THATS what I was led to the last half hour or so! I cautioned myself while doing the exercise that I don’t know other peoples heart motivations, I can only examine and know my own. But then I wondered if I truly believe that and I think I don’t. I know I’ve HEARD it many times - so you think you know my heart?? But if God shows you what spirit someone is manifesting, like a spirit of wrath, haven’t you discerned, by the Spirit, their heart motivation….?
I think I have something wrong there…

Yes, it’s wrong. Wrath doesn’t seem to be a root. Anger isn’t etymological. The REASON for the anger is etymological.
Iforrest might be coming up with “The Seven Etymologies” :)

So I can be given discernment such as the spirit someone is manifesting but I cannot see what their heart is doing…

Whew! Too much work for 3:30 am!
