No one just has to live in a culture influenced by Christian morality.
There is nothing in atheistic philosophy that says do good to others, rather it is dog eat dog.
No one can argue that “dog eat dog” is a description of humanity alienated from God, but it doesn’t mean that all unbelievers are wicked or cannot be a force for good in the world. You keep mentioning Wilberforce and Shaftesbury like their names mean something to people outside of the UK.....there have been many highly motivated humanitarians who were also “Christians” in their ethics....yet as I mentioned, some nations don’t have their Wilberforces or Shaftesburys to advocate for them. The very conditions you mentioned that these men fought to bring about was commendable, and yet Christ never told us to try and change the world.....God will change the world when his Kingdom “comes” and destroys every vestige of wicked human rulership under satan’s Influence.
Daniel 2:44 is a prophesy about the current ruling powers, so we know that humans cannot change who rules and influences the rulers....only God can do that.
You have not understood anything about my references to Willberforce of Shaftesbury.
I have, but these names are historical, not biblical. There have never been genuine Christian politicians. “No part of the world” means no part of how it is ruled when the devil holds sway over mankind. When the Bible says that the “whole world” is ruled by the devil, that leaves no part of it that isn’t. (1 John 5:19) Can God influence these rulers when it suits his purpose....Bible history shows that he did many times.
The world has many “good” people in it, but God never said he was going to save “good” people....he will save
obedient ones.....those who can do as God tells them. After all, the Bible is a book about faithful ones “doing” God’s will, following his commands to the letter, without making excuses for why they didn’t. Think of Abraham when he was asked to sacrifice his son.....as horribly difficult as that command was, he attempted to follow it without question, because he trusted his God and was always obedient to him.
Hebrews 11:17-19...
“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, as good as offered up Isaac—the man who had gladly received the promises attempted to offer up his only-begotten son— 18 although it had been said to him: “What will be called your offspring will be through Isaac.” 19 But he reasoned that God was able to raise him up even from the dead, and he did receive him from there in an illustrative way.”
So with faith that God always has everything under his control, Abraham was willing to do the unthinkable because he knew that his God always had a reason for his actions, even if he didn’t understand them at the time.
Christ did not command us to change the world....he taught us to pray for God’s Kingdom to “come” so that God’s will can be “done on earth as it is in heaven”. God is the one who will change this world’s rulership and bring humankind back to his first purpose....the very reason why he put us here on planet earth in the first place. So many are focused on ‘going to heaven’, when God never intended for any humans to go to heaven when he created us. Our everlasting life was meant to be right here, taking care of the earth, it’s creatures and each other, whilst enjoying the wonders of creation in paradise conditions, for all eternity.
They changed the World for better by there work which was motivated by love.
No one is disputing that, but how far can human efforts go when so much of the world is still suffering political corruption, commercial exploitation, orchestrated ill health, starvation and war? Do you have any idea of how corrupt these governments are, conducting things behind the scenes to bring about the greatest “tribulation” in the history of mankind...? Jesus foretold it, and we are living at the time it will take place. (Matthew 24: 21-22)
Your kingdom come your will be done! And how do you know that God's will is not for you to be a force for good in the world.
Again, no one is saying we can’t be a force for good.....but like Jesus, we do that one soul at a time, changing lives despite what the world is doing....showing them the hope of the “new earth” which will be ruled by the “new heaven”.......for the first time, humans will have God as their ruler with his Christ at the helm, ably supported by his elect, directing mankind back to God in reconciliation.
“I also saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
This is what faithful ones can look forward to.....no man can bring this about, no matter how noble his efforts.
