Hebrews 2:14-15
(14) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
(15) And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
John 10:17-18
(17) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
(18) No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Jesus was not subject to the bondage of fear of death.
Jesus shared in flesh and blood, but was not under the condemnation of death as though He were a sinner like us. He was like us, except without sin.
Much love!
You see there you go again...you quote Scripture and continue to say the opposite of what its saying. How am I to respond to you doing that?
Hebrews 5:7 disagrees with you Marks
In the days of his flesh (sin's flesh), Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to
save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again;
death no longer has dominion over him. Romans 6:9
He feared death!
He feared God who was able to save him from death
Death was working in his body!
God destroyed the power of death in His son.
How was sin represented in the Body prepared by God?
You have the answer in Hebrews 2
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood,
Jesus himself likewise partook of the same things, that
through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil (=sin), 15 and deliver all those who
through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery (as Jesus was!). 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.
17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.Heb 2:14–18.
Homework for Marks:
1. Explain what "every respect means" in that context
2. Show how sin is personified in the text to mean devil
3. Why is Jesus always represented by death? What happened in his death and how did dying remove deaths power?
4. If Jesus was in sin's flesh just as those he was raised up to save - did he experience the fear of going to his death? What Scriptures reveal that fear?
5. Were there times in Jesus ministry where the reality of that death pressed in on him hard?
6. How did God have his Victory in the Body of Jesus Christ?
7. If Jesus did not have our nature explain how this removes God's victory.
