When a person comes to God by Faith in Christ... God gives them "Christ's righteousness" as "the imputed righteousness of Christ'.

This is the "Divine Exchange", whereby Jesus takes your sin, as "God hath made Jesus to BE .Sin....for us".

In other words, Jesus becomes our sin, as If He is the sinner.....= "God hath laid on Jesus the SIN (iniquity) .. of us ALL"..

Isaiah 53:6

That is John 3:16..... and 2 Corinthians 5:19... and Romans 3:17.

And what do we become now that Jesus has become our sin bearer?

We, the Born again become .."Made Righteous".... "made free from sin".. having Become..."THE Righteousness of God, in Christ"

How do we get that?

= "imputed righteousness" as "THE GIFT of Righteousness".

So, that is how we start as CHRISTians.......... and only 2 seconds earlier we were SINNERS, unforgiven..

Now, we are "made righteous", "Saints".

There is our Salvation...

But now, the next day starts and there you are born again, made righteous, and yet you have wrong thought patterns and you have habits and behavior issues, that are of the MIND.......not the Spirit.. as the Spirit is born again, but your MIND is not.

So, the process of Discipleship, the literal important part, is not trying to be some fake imitation of Christ.......but its to understand fully, who you have become, as a "new Creation IN Christ"....as learning what this is all about, is how you "work out your Salvation".

See reader, if you are born again, and not just water baptized and religious.... YOU ALREADY HAVE SALVATION....... AND NOW you are to learn how to exist in it., correctly.... = by gaining all the revelation knowledge that is available to you, so that you get your mind in line with God's perspective of you.

Baby Christians, do not have this yet., and they can be 50 yrs saved.
Mature BELIEVERS, do have the REVELATION.... and the mature believer, is this one...Paul teaches....>"as many as be PERFECT">.

And that means that you have attained to God's perspective regarding what it means to be a "new Creation in Christ".

If you dont have it.....you'll be talking about sin a lot.. You'll be trying to confess sin... You'll believe you can lose your salvation... You'll talk about Law and commandments a lot,.. You will believe that water washed away your sin.... and you will have no understanding of the Cross of Christ.

We are not made righteous; rather we are imputed with the righteousness of God. That is different, perhaps a subtle difference, but an important difference. We are not made righteous; rather we are declared to be righteous. We are not made sinless. We are forgiven. It is an act of God called justification. God’s act of justification is not the impartation of righteousness, but the imputation of righteousness. “To justify” means not to make righteous, but to declare righteous, to count or accept as righteous. The state of justification is not an ever-increasing holiness of character, but a complete right legal standing before the law of God and a freedom from the law’s penalty.

That justification means to declare righteous rather than to make righteous is seen in the use of the verb dikaioo in Luke 7:29, which says literally that the people who heard Jesus’ teaching about John the Baptist “justified God” (KJV). Obviously this cannot mean that the people made God righteous; they were simply declaring or acknowledging him to be righteous. Thus the NASB translates this as “They acknowledged God’s justice,” and the NIV says they “acknowledged that God’s way was right.” Likewise, when God justifies us he is not making us righteous but is declaring us so.

In all of that you are a bit confused. Most of that is not about righteousness or justification, but rather it is about sanctification. Justification is not an ongoing process. It is a one time act of God. Sanctification, on the other hand, is a life-long ongoing process in which the baptized believer, i.e., the born again, becomes more and more separated from sin itself. This aspect of sanctification is not a change in status or relationships, but a continuing transformation of our inward character and mental attitudes, as well as our outward behavior and conduct.

It is in sanctification, not justification, that we “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18), and “work out [our] own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12). In this sanctification we become more and more like God in righteousness and holiness of truth (Eph 4:22-24). Our pattern and goal are God’s own ethical holiness, as we are commanded to imitate his perfect moral character: “But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Pet 1:15-16). As Jesus says it, “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt 5:48). Our goal is to “share His holiness” (Heb 12:10) or to “become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Pet 1:4) in this moral sense. We are to purify ourselves, even as he is pure (1 John 3:3). See Luke 1:75; Rom 6:19,22; 2 Cor 6:14–7:1; 1 Thess 3:13; 4:7.

There is so much more to be said about righteousness, justification and sanctification, but I will leave it at that for now.

Yes, we are made righteous by the "imputed righteousness of Christ".

That is not your BODY or MIND that receive this "Gift of Righteousness".

Its the born again Spirit, that is become : "THE Righteousness OF GOD>.. "In Christ".

You can't become a CHRISTian, until you have been Justified by God, based on The Cross of Christ.

Jesus is our Salvation who is our Justification and our Sanctification, and our SALVATION and our RIGHTEOUS and our Eternal Life.

The problem here is that Romans 5:19 is not talking about the baptized believer, the born again. Just as the reference of the effect of Adam's disobedience to the newborn human being, so also is the reference of the effect of Jesus' obedience is to the newborn human being. What Paul is telling us in that entire passage is that mankind comes into this world with a spirit from God that is good, pure, and innocent. The effect of Jesus' death on the cross negated completely any effect of Adam's sin in eating the fruit of the wrong tree. We begin this life as righteous human beings. We become unrighteous by our own trespasses and sins, not Adam's sin.

When we are born again, God declares us righteous.

Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness."

Rom 4:23 But the words "it was counted to him" were not written for his sake alone,
Rom 4:24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord.

The question here to be answered is who are the "many" for whom are made sinners and who are the "many" who are made righteous. The only rational and exegetically correct answer must be that the many are the same in both cases. It is the newborns that are being referenced. What that means is that the effect of Jesus' obedience negated the effect of Adam's disobedience. To propose otherwise is to proclaim the effect of Jesus' obedience is far inferior to the effect of Adam's disobedience. That is, that Adam's disobedience is universal upon mankind, while Jesus' obedience is a puny imitation of that. And that is nonsense.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Just another one of those verses in which the KJV is a very poor translation/interpretation. And that is understandable given the very strong influence of the Roman Catholic Church at the time the KJV was translated.

The word translated by the KJV in that verse is γίνομαι [ginomai]. Strong's dictionary has for it

A prolonged and middle form of a primary verb; to cause to be (“gen” -erate), that is, (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literally, figuratively, intensively, etc.): - arise be assembled, be (come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, be done, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.

"Made" is a very poor and inappropriate translation/interpretation.
