keep in mind the Hades (Hel in English) is not the lake of fire and brimstone,.Hell as we now it is merely a holding cell for those souls you speak of. All in there will face the WHite Throne Judgement.
It's called the grave - holding cell for some permanent rest for others.

I looked up the word brimstone and it means judgment.
I suppose the fire and brimstone will last as long as it takes someone to learn their lesson.
Some people are real stubborn though, that's for sure. LOL
Might seem like forever.

Jack did the same but in a more aggressive way.

Pentecostals often interpret “the fire is not quenched” literally, yet what are we to make of “where their worm does not die” (Mark 9:48)?

We have it on record he believes worms are given eternal life! :funlaugh2

Are there truly immortal worms in hell? @Bladerunner :IDK:

Likewise, should the warnings to cut off one’s hand (Mark 9:43), foot (v. 45), or pluck out one’s eye (v. 47) be taken literally?

These statements, found in Mark 9:43–48, are better understood as hyperbolic language emphasizing the seriousness of sin and the radical measures one must take to avoid it, rather than as literal physical instructions.

The problem Bladerunner is you both are lazy slothful readers of the Word and take no care in asking the right questions in the hope of being taught. You would rather have you ears tickled!

@ProDeo see how ridiculously these people have been deceived...and they love the deception!

Do you know how many times Jesus warned us of THE FIRE? BILLIONS will burn FOREVER. Jesus said so.

Psalm 111:10
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;

Now that's edifying!
We await the reverent fear that will lead you into knowledge. Many in this forum have already shown you great patience.

No names Blade - its truth!
And Heaven is not the reward of the Saints! :no reply:

Start with the elementary things of the Word and begin you journey!

As the Lord said...the meek shall inherit the Earth and Abraham is still yet to be raised to receive his promises.

It staggers me how little people know in this forum.

If brimstone is judgment then what does the fire represent?
Righteous indignation?
As I consider the word fire,Ikeep comingback to Truth. The Truth is not quenched.
We felt a burning in our hearts... Truth.
Truth and Judgment... Fire and Brimstone.
And it rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorah.

The worm...

Isa 66:24
And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Another meaning of the word worm has to do with the color of red dye, or scarlet or crimson.
If you take worm and translate it to crimson you have:
Isa 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, H8438 they shall be as wool.

Where their worm does not die... neither does their sin.

just thinking

Yes,...Have you read Luke 16:19........ It tells one a lot about Hades (Hell) within the earth, a holding cell....for the lake of FIRE and Brimstone will not come into play until Rev 19 and beyond.

Jack preaches the Word that upsets you so much.

Good for them! It's Bible.
We have it on record he believes worms are given eternal life! :funlaugh2
Yep, Jesus said so!
Are there truly immortal worms in hell? @Bladerunner :IDK:
I hope you don't become roommates!
Likewise, should the warnings to cut off one’s hand (Mark 9:43), foot (v. 45), or pluck out one’s eye (v. 47) be taken literally?
You're TWISTING the Scripture. It says IT'S BETTER than burning FOREVER!
These statements, found in Mark 9:43–48, are better understood as hyperbolic language emphasizing the seriousness of sin and the radical measures one must take to avoid it, rather than as literal physical instructions.
You sure sound like JW's that TWIST nearly every verse in the Bible to change the meaning!

How IRONIC!
@ProDeo see how ridiculously these people have been deceived...and they love the deception!
BILLIONS of humans will burn FOREVER who don't believe it now. You will believe too!

Ziggy, you know how many times I’ve asked people like Jack and Bladerunner to answer the simplest questions about where Jesus drew his lesson in Mark 9, and you got it right!

How is it that these truths are revealed to you but not to them?

And its a willing ignorance that they hold to their futile positions.

Isaiah 66:24 is cited by Jesus in Mark 9:43–48. In Jerusalem, this served as a deliberate reminder of the fate awaiting those who defy God (cf. Isa. 34:1–10). See also Ezek. 39:11–22.

The context refers to the worms that continually consumed the dead bodies in Gehenna, not worms living in some fiery place of torment. It illustrates that the decaying flesh of the disobedient would ultimately remain in the grave forever.

And your comment on sin is spot on!

In no way does it lessen the warning but still allows for a Gracious and Compassionate God!

Hugs back!

You will learn to FEAR God! I guarantee it.

Hebrews 10:31
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

@Ziggy @Bladerunner @Jack

Note the figurative language?

“Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”

This refers to the worms that continually fed on the dead bodies thrown into the Valley of Hinnom (Gehenna), and to the perpetual fire maintained to consume them.

Here is the problem, if you read the Bible with one dimensional lens how can you know the context?

You are no different to a horse wearing blinkers!

Remove your blinkers and open your gaze!...like Ziggy!

They will if they want to.
You have to want to know what Jesus is speaking to your heart. What lesson is he trying to teach you.
Not everybody wants to go that deep. They are afraid of losing their own understanding. Which is a requirement if you want to be born again.
Saying that, it took me almost 30 years after being baptised to have an intention to learn the Lord's understanding and not my own.
I ask a lot of questions..lol
I do a lot of digging.
I observe the world around me and ask: Lord, what the hell is going on????
And the reply I got:
Buckle Up Buttercup it's about to get bumpy.
Hugs

In Isaiah, the fire is located outside Jerusalem in Israel (Isa. 66:20), not in some otherworldly realm as Pentecostal and Evangelical doctrine claims. hmmx1:

Isaiah describes carcasses, the visible remains of those who rebelled against God, being observed by passersby. Pentecostal teaching, by contrast, speaks of souls, not bodies, being cast into hell.

We can see why understanding Parables and especially the language used is paramount in forming correct doctrine. False teaching will cause you no end of striff as we are seeing with Jack & Bladerunner.

The Greek word Gehenna, often translated “hell,” comes from the Hebrew Ghi-Hinnom—the Valley of Hinnom, located to the south of Jerusalem. It was here that kings Ahaz and Manasseh sacrificed their sons to Molech (2 Chron. 28:3; 33:6; Jer. 32:35). King Josiah later defiled the site (2 Kings 23:10), and it became known as Topheth (“altar”). In time, the valley was turned into the city’s garbage dump, where refuse and the carcasses of dead animals were burned. What the flames did not destroy, worms consumed.

Thus, when Jesus used the word Gehenna, he was drawing on this imagery to symbolize total and final destruction, not eternal preservation in conscious torment.

It puzzles me how those who believe in eternal preservation in conscious torment miss God's Character and Purpose. It's as though they have taken on a vindictive vengeful spirit - but where did it come from? Where did these mythological beliefs come from?
