Then so will I. Check back with me today or tomorrow and let me know how you did. We can talk about what you read or not talk about what you read. We might just mentally check the “We read it” box and decide what we’re going to read together on the next day.

I still think you should start a separate thread on it. Who knows, maybe we’ll have five, ten, fifteen maybe more committed to reading the same passages of scripture every day.
Consider this a test run. We'll see how it goes.

Developing a habit, even a modest one, takes time. I think it will go well but we may experience some difficulty along the way. If either one of us falls short the other can pick him up and we keep going together, for as long as we mutually decide to do it.

NIV. That's the only one I have.

That’ll do to get you started. I own dozens of translations and I’ve been thinking about which one I want to use for this venture. NASB95 is my workhorse, so I won’t be using it. A few minutes ago I decided on which translation I’m going to use. Depending on how long our test goes, I may stick with it or swap it with one or more others.

King James? :funlaugh2

I narrowed it down to two. One of them, in fact, is the King James. I have several of my grandfather’s Bibles in my personal library and he was a mighty Bible reading man - 8 hours a day after he retired wouldn’t have been unusual for him. He literally read the Bible frontwards and backwards, writing the dates in the margins. I can track him easily. He would wear out several Bibles each year. Most of his Bibles that I have are held together with masking tape. He was King James only.

He highly valued reading the Bible daily and he instilled that in me. I have his old recliner in my bedroom. I never go to bed without seeing it and thinking of him. I can still picture him sitting in the chair and reading the Bible. Morning, afternoon, night. He was a small man in stature but a giant man in my life.

I thought about using one of his Bibles in his honor. He would have been very pleased to learn of what we’re doing. And he wouldn’t have looked down on only ten minutes per day. To hear about you getting started would have made him very happy. (I conveniently wouldn’t have told him you were using the NIV. I would have told him if he pressed me on the point.)

I struggled with it but finally decided not to do it. Instead, I made a decision that would not have pleased him. In fact, it would have hurt him deeply. More deeply than if I had decided on the NIV.

Would you like to know which translation I decided on?

By the way, I finished reading Matthew 1:1-25 a few minutes ago.

Yeah. What did you decide on?

A Roman Catholic translation published in 1966.

For kicks but not just for kicks. I enjoy reading it and I haven’t read it in a long time.
I read it. There was a lot of begotting. One guy even committed incest. I guess he liked to live on the wild side. :funlaugh2

Well done. Beginning with the New Testament is difficult because in doing so we lose the base that it sits on- the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament. Matthew gave us a quick refresher.

I think it makes sense to continue our trial by reading Matthew 2 next, later today. It has 23 verses and we should be able to accomplish that in our ten minute window. Would you agree with that suggestion?

Sure. I hope there's less begotting.

Matthew 3 contains 17 verses. We should be able to easily read that in our 10 minutes sometime today.
I decided to use the Recovery Version of the New Testament. It was simply closer than my NIV Bible. :funlaugh2
