King James?
I narrowed it down to two. One of them, in fact, is the King James. I have several of my grandfather’s Bibles in my personal library and he was a mighty Bible reading man - 8 hours a day after he retired wouldn’t have been unusual for him. He literally read the Bible frontwards and backwards, writing the dates in the margins. I can track him easily. He would wear out several Bibles each year. Most of his Bibles that I have are held together with masking tape. He was King James only.
He highly valued reading the Bible daily and he instilled that in me. I have his old recliner in my bedroom. I never go to bed without seeing it and thinking of him. I can still picture him sitting in the chair and reading the Bible. Morning, afternoon, night. He was a small man in stature but a giant man in my life.
I thought about using one of his Bibles in his honor. He would have been very pleased to learn of what we’re doing. And he wouldn’t have looked down on only ten minutes per day. To hear about you getting started would have made him very happy. (I conveniently wouldn’t have told him you were using the NIV. I would have told him if he pressed me on the point.)
I struggled with it but finally decided not to do it. Instead, I made a decision that would not have pleased him. In fact, it would have hurt him deeply. More deeply than if I had decided on the NIV.
Would you like to know which translation I decided on?
By the way, I finished reading Matthew 1:1-25 a few minutes ago.
