I do not "know", but, "We believe this is what these verses mean." Understanding Daniel helps to understand the book of Revelation.

We need to consider additional verses from Daniel to more fully understand prophecy from the Book of Revelation. The reader can become "confounded" if we introduce too many verses with thoughts at one time. The meaning of the years in these three verses appears to align with history and prophecy.
If anyone sees this understanding to be in error, please correct us,.......thanks.

DANIEL 8:14

And he said to me, "For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed" (Daniel 8:14).

These 2300 “days” (H1242 and H6153) are “days and nights,” which equal 2300/2 = 1150 days (H3117 days = years) until the setting up of the abomination of desolation (papacy) to contain transgressors with doctrine through papal authority over church and state for 1260 years.

"And the vision of the evenings and mornings Which was told is true; Therefore seal up the vision, For it refers to many days" (Daniel 8:26). It takes an “evening” (H6153) and a “morning” (H1242) to make a “day” (H3117) year.

And the eveningH6153 and the morningH1242 were the second day.H3117 (Genesis 1:8).

The 2300 days and nights = 1150 years was the time until the setting up of the abomination of desolation and the cleansing of the sanctuary (non-repentant believers). It was not the time interval of how long it would continue. How long the cleansing would continue is seen in Daniel 12:7, 11, 12.

The 1150 years from the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar (Daniel 8:1) in 551 BC bring us to the year 590 AD, the time of Pope Gregory 1 the Great. He is considered the first medieval pope because of his pivotal role in reshaping the Church's structure, handling the political and military challenges of the time, and developing the papacy's authority. Pope Leo 1 and Pope Gregory 1 were the first of few popes given the title, “the Great.”

DANIEL 9:25, 26

"Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times (Daniel 9:25).

(There were seven and sixty-two weeks = 69 weeks x 7 years = 483 years from the command by Artaxerxes 1 in 457 BC to restore Jerusalem until Messiah. 483 years passed from the year 457 BC until the coming of the Messiah in 27 AD, the year after 26 AD, (-457 + 483 years = 26 AD).

"And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined (Daniel 9:26).

The sixty-two weeks (434 years) of Dan. 9:26 and the sixty-two weeks of Dan. 9:25 are two different time periods. The 62 weeks (434 years) of Dan. 9:27 are AFTER the coming of Messiah in 27 AD, and bring us to 461 AD (27 AD + 434 years = 461 AD). This was the time of Pope Leo 1 the Great, who declared himself the vicar of Christ and head of the whole church. The quickening Spirit of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:45) was cut-off from being received by grace for faith when Law-like doctrine entered to contain the overspreading of abominations at the fall of Roman Empire. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit eagerly await the hope of righteousness by faith (Galatians 5:4-5). Time and laws were "changed" (Dan. 7:25) back to as under Law again, to contain the overspreading of abominations with doctrine, similar to the Law being added because of transgressions (Gal. 3:17, 19).

What happened is seen by: That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; (Ecclesiastes 3:15a). A repeat in history.
And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days; afterward I arose and went about the king's business. I was astonished by the vision, but no one understood it, (from Dan. 8:27). Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter (Rev 10:10).

We are sharing these thoughts, because as members of one body and one another by one Spirit (from Romans 12:4-5), there should be no division among believers as being Catholic, Protestant, or "Jew," and because a house divided against itself cannot stand (from Mark 3:25).
We hope this is an accurate understanding of the meaning of these verses.

With thanksgiving to GOD the Father, in the name of and through the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17),..........may GOD bless

Greetings CareGiver,
The 2300 days and nights = 1150 years was the time until the setting up of the abomination of desolation and the cleansing of the sanctuary (non-repentant believers).
I understand the 2300 days represents 2300 years, the period of time that Jerusalem would be trodden down by the Gentiles, from BC 334-333 when Alexander overthrew the Persians to AD 1967 when the Jews regained possession of Jerusalem.

Kind regards
Trevor

2300/2 sppears to me to be too much inferred from what is written. The time period is 2300 days, which is just over 6 years. I like Payne's view, as stated in his Encyclopedia of Biblical Prophecy, that the prophecy begins in 171 when Lysimachus, brother of the corrupt high priest Menelaus, trod the santuary under foot (Dan 8.13) through stealing the temple's sacred vessles (II Macc 4.39-42. The period ends in 165 at the end of Antiochus period of profanation.

The sixty-two weeks (434 years) of Dan. 9:26 and the sixty-two weeks of Dan. 9:25 are two different time periods.
It does not seem reasonable to me to separate the 62 weeks of Dan 9.26 from the 62 weeks of Dan 9.25. They must be the same portion of the 70 Weeks given in the prophecy. No other 70 Weeks period is given.

That being said, I agree with your time table of the 69 weeks leadings from Artaxerxes in 457 BC to 26 AD, when Jesus began his earthly ministry. Dan 9.24 provides 6 things that we are informed the 70 Weeks lead to, with the coming and cutting off of Messiah. Obviously, Messiah's being cut off would lead to judgment, described as the "Abomination of Desolation," or the destruction of the "city and the sanctuary" by the People (Army) of the Ruler to Come (Roman leadership/4th Kingdom).

Jesus, in his Olivet Discourse, confirms that the Abomination of Desolation was the Roman Army surrounding and defeating Jerusalem in the generation of Messiah, particularly when we compare Luke's version with Matthew and Mark's versions.

I don't think Old Pope Leo has any involvement in this one. I read the 2300 evenings and mornings as 2300 years. One reason is they have the same starting point as the 70 weeks, 457 BC, so they would also be translated as weeks of years. Daniel 9 was sort of a continuation of Chapter 8 when the Prophet fell ill and could not continue.

At the beginning of Daniel 9, after he had finished his prayer, Gabriel appeared and said:

"At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision

There was no "vision" in Daniel 9. The vision Gabriel came to explain was the vision which started in the previous Chapter when Daniel fell ill. So the 2300 years also connects with the Artaxerxes Decree of 457 BC. Skip the zero year = 1844.

And welcome to the forum.

Peaceful Sabbath.

The daily sacrifice of two lambs in temple service (when there is a temple in place) are one lamb sacrificed in the morning and one lamb sacrificed in the evening. 2300 days.

The vision of the little horn stopping the daily sacrifice is "time of the end". Daniel 8:17. Still unfulfilled. And has nothing to do with the Pope/papacy.

What it boils down to is that 2300 days before Jesus returns, the daily sacrifice will start up again. Meaning a temple of some sort will have to be built on the temple mount. The Jews will be conducting the temple ordinances there by their temple priests system.

Once the daily sacrifice of the two lambs is resumed, then about 3 years later, the little horn person is going to stop the daily sacrifice, and commit the ransgression of desolation act, making the temple desolate from all the priests activities dedicated to the worship of the One True God.

The transgression of desolation act is described in 2Thessalonians2:3-4, as the little horn person reveals himself as the man of sin, by sitting in the temple, proclaiming having achieved God-hood..

2Thessalonians2:
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Welcome Caregiver!

I marvel at such work and how God seems to build it into the greater scheme of things--indeed there is something to it! However, Jesus made a qualifying statement regarding how much of these thing would seemingly play out:

"For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together." (Matthew 24:28).

Which I submit, was a warning not to consider things in the way most common to men of flesh and blood (the way of "the carcass") and this world.

Alternatively then, referring to the timing of "the abomination of desolation" rather as referring to the matter from the spiritual perspective: The abomination has different aspects, but centers rather on Christ--on Christ regarding the abominable act of crucifying the Lamb of God ("before the foundation of the world" made manifest in the time of Christ), and then that abomination unfolding in the Church--as yes, fulfilled in many ways by the papacy--but quite literally by all who have believed and adopted the doctrine of Christ coming again in the flesh (carcass). Of course, as I said, there are many aspects to Daniel's prophecy--but that is the gist of it--fulfilling the prophecy of believing a "lie" causing "strong delusion."

No, the sixty two weeks of Daniel 9:26 and Daniel 9:25 are the same period.

The period has to do with the passover week that Jesus arrived in Jerusalem and then be crucified that same week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniel 9:25 - 434 years unto messiah (arrives) - The passover week that Jesus would be crucified, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, riding a donkey, hailed as the promised king of Israel, by his followers, in John 12:12-15.

Daniel 9:26 -the same 434 years, the messiah cut-off (crucified) - 4 days after arriving as the messiah in John 12:12-15, Jesus was crucified as the passover Lamb of God.

Jesus knew that he would be crucified that week right before the feast (meal) of the passover was ate by the Jews.

Here is a verse that clarifies it. John 13:11 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So what we have got for the 70 weeks (of years) is shown on this chart I made....

The sanctuary, i.e. the temple and temple mount, will be cleansed when Jesus returns. Down below the chart I made is an illustration I made of the cleansing of the temple and temple mount the day that Jesus returns.

The 2300 days will take place during the 7 year 70th week of Daniel 9:27.

Here is a chart I made of the 2300 days.

If they are different time periods, this would mean that Messiah the Prince was cut off twice, the second being in 461 AD.

There is no Scripture claiming that Messiah the Prince was the Spirit of Christ, and that the Spirit of Christ was or would be cut off. God preserved His True Church through the spiritual depredations of the apostate papacy, and raised up the Reformers and the Reformation.

According to Daniel 9:26, only Messiah the Prince would be cut off, and only once.

For what it is worth, here is a partial cut / paste from my commentary on Daniel for the 2300 day prophecy. (should you or others have an interest in receiving a free author's copy to consider, please send me a PM).

The interpretation of the 2300-evening-and-morning prophecy has commonly been approached using the year-for-a-day principle, transforming this prophetic time period into 2300 years. One prevalent interpretation identifies the start of this prophecy with the decree issued by Artaxerxes in 457 BC—the same decree marking the beginning of the seventy-weeks-of-years prophecy detailed in Daniel Chapter 9.

However, alternative perspectives exist, such as dividing the 2300 days into two to arrive at 1150 days. Some scholars have sought to correlate this shortened timeframe with historical events occurring during the post-Alexander era. These varying interpretations highlight the complexity and ongoing scholarly debate surrounding prophetic timelines within Daniel's prophecies.

The unique phrase "evenings and mornings" associated with the 2300-days prophecy clearly refers to the daily sacrificial rituals. In the daily Temple service, an animal was sacrificed at 9 AM and again at 3 PM—timings remarkably mirrored by the Messiah’s crucifixion at the third hour (9 AM) and His death at the ninth hour (3 PM). Thus, this prophecy symbolizes the Messiah cleansing the Sanctuary (the mareh vision) within the final week of Daniel’s seventy-weeks-of-years prophecy.

Through His sacrificial death as the true Passover Lamb, the Messiah fully accomplished the purpose of the daily sacrifices, symbolically causing the earthly Sanctuary system to be "cast down," as indicated in the latter half of verse 11. Following His resurrection, He ascended into heaven after forty days, where His sacrifice was fully accepted by His Father, completing the heavenly cleansing of the Sanctuary. With Christ’s earthly mission complete, the symbolic significance of the daily sacrifices was fulfilled, and a new chapter in God’s redemptive plan began. This 2300 evening and morning vision speaks directly to the Messiah’s cleansing of the Sanctuary during the set-aside final week of the prophecy.

The Mareh calculation

In Daniel 8, we encounter one of the most intriguing and challenging prophecies in all of Scripture—the vision of the 2,300 days. While many recognize that Jesus, the Messiah, fulfilled numerous prophecies and ceremonial requirements outlined in the Tanakh, few make the connection between those fulfillments and Daniel’s mysterious 2,300-day timeline.

Embedded within the broader chazon vision of Daniel 8 is the mareh vision—the focused revelation of the Messiah’s appearance and mission—which is further clarified by the seventy-weeks-of-years prophecy found in Daniel 9. This seventy-week framework gives structure and timing to the Messiah’s ministry, and especially the final week, during which the sanctuary would be spiritually cleansed.

The first sixty-nine weeks, or 483 years, outline the gradual and divinely guided restoration of Jerusalem and its sacred elements after their destruction by Babylon. Every part of the sanctuary system—altars, furnishings, and ceremonies—would be reestablished, and this restoration would unfold in the exact reverse order of their original removal. Yet one sacred element remained conspicuously absent: the Ark of the Covenant. Its absence was no accident. The Ark symbolized God’s presence and authority, and its continued absence sent a clear message—its restoration could not be accomplished by human hands. It would require the Messiah Himself to fulfill that role during the final, seventieth week.

Although the physical temple continued functioning for a short time after the cross, its divine relevance had come to an end. The emphasis now shifted from earthly structures to spiritual fulfillment. Christ’s sacrificial death marked the full completion of the sanctuary system and the true cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary. This spiritual lens allows us to interpret Daniel’s visions more accurately—not simply as historical predictions, but as revelations of God's redemptive plan fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

On the very first day of the seventieth week, Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River, marking the formal beginning of His public ministry. Every significant event mentioned in Daniel 9:24–27 was divinely appointed to unfold within this final seven-year span (of course the temple would be physically destroyed in 70 AD). According to Scripture, the Messiah would be “cut off in the midst of the week” (Daniel 9:26–27). And yet, even with this apparent interruption to His earthly ministry, Jesus would fulfill His mission entirely and precisely as ordained.

In His infinite wisdom, God arranged this seven-year period—the final week of the seventy-weeks prophecy—so precisely that Jesus’ ministry would span four Passover Feasts. This would symbolize the fulfillment of the first four Spring Festivals (Passover, Unleavened Bread, First fruits, and Pentecost), each of which pointed to a specific redemptive act of the Messiah. This final seven-year segment contained exactly 2,520 days (7 years × 360 days/year). However, God's perfect timing placed the first Passover exactly six months into Jesus’ ministry, which meant that the seventh Passover would occur exactly six months before the close of the final seven-year period. Only God could orchestrate such meticulous timing!

The final seven years—the “seventieth week” of Daniel’s prophecy—were set apart for the Messiah to accomplish the six purposes outlined in Daniel 9:24. This period contained seven Passover seasons. From the moment of His baptism in the Jordan, the clock began ticking toward the cross. Yet the mission was never to complete all seven in sequence before dying; rather, His purpose was to fulfill them in Himself. By the fourth Passover of that prophetic week, the perfect Lamb of God was offered once for all, accomplishing in a single moment what centuries of sacrifices had foreshadowed. When we count from His baptism to that seventh Passover in the timeline, we arrive at 2,340 days (6½ years × 360 days/year)—a measure that symbolically completes the appointed week. Though His earthly ministry was “cut off” in the middle of that week, the atonement He provided reached forward to encompass the entire period. In His death and resurrection, every Passover in that final week found its ultimate fulfillment, bringing an end to the daily sacrifices and opening the way for the true heavenly cleansing of sin to begin.

Yet one final, profound element remains: the forty days.

The number forty holds deep symbolic meaning throughout Scripture, often representing a time of purification, testing, and spiritual preparation. Immediately following His baptism, Jesus withdrew into the wilderness and fasted for forty days and nights. Though He was sinless, this period reflected His full submission to the laws of purification in Leviticus and His readiness to fulfill His divine calling. These 40 days were not incidental—they were essential. They served as a spiritual consecration of the Messiah, establishing Him as the true High Priest, the living Temple, and the final Sacrifice. His purity was confirmed, His identity revealed, and His mission inaugurated.

When we subtract these 40 days of preparation from the 2,340 days between His baptism and the seventh Passover, we arrive precisely at 2,300 days. This stunning accuracy affirms the divine origin of the prophecy. God orchestrated every detail with precision, revealing not only the length of Christ’s redemptive ministry, but also the moment when the heavenly sanctuary would be cleansed through His sacrifice. Within the final week of Daniel's seventy-weeks prophecy, every condition set by the Father for Jesus was perfectly arranged. Though Jesus was “cut off in the midst of the week,” He completed His mission without delay or deficiency.

Just before yielding His spirit on the cross, He declared, “It is finished,” confirming that His redemptive work was complete. Thus, the mareh vision—the focused appearance and ministry of the Messiah—reveals the heart of God's plan. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled the purposes of Daniel’s prophecy, cleansed the sanctuary, and made the way for eternal reconciliation. The 2,300 evenings and mornings are not a mystery to be feared, but a testimony to be treasured. They proclaim that God's plan was not only perfect—it was finished in Christ.
