I have taken several courses in the use of firearms in self-defense. The legal standard for use of deadly force in self-defense is that the person must have a "reasonable belief" that he/she was in imminent danger of death or grievous bodily harm (or in my state, rape), and must have reasonable belief that the other person had intent, means, and capability to cause said imminent death, grievous bodily harm, or rape. They also must not have provoked the confrontation. Law Enforcement officers during the official execution of their duties are given considerable leeway in judging provocation.

From what we see in the video, did the ICE officer during the official execution of his duties have a reasonable belief that he was in imminent danger of being intentionally run over with a motor vehicle?

Nothing that woman did justified murdering her. If she was an agitator, if she was following ICE around, if she failed to comply with an order to get out of her car, none of that justified killing her.

The main argument seems to be the agent was in fear for his life; okay, let's look at that.

First, he was a trained agent with years of experience. One of the first things his training should've taught him is never step in front of a vehicle. Second, what if his first shot wasn't the fatal shot and she was still alive when he fired the second and third shots while he was completely clear of the car and was in no danger at all? He didn't follow any of his training, but acted recklessly and intended to kill Renee. Lastly, state regime media was quick to say he was run over and had to go to the hospital. Everything they've said about this are lies. He was barely bumped, but didn't fall down; in fact, he was able to get out of the way and fire two shots when he was in no danger. Then he walked down to the car after it crashed. Renee was not aiming her vehicle at the agent; she was driving away from him.

It doesn't matter how they want to spin this, what happened was that a rogue ICE agent didn't follow his training and murdered a US citizen unnecessarily all for a Trump political stunt. This whole situation brings tears to my eyes.

I, too, saw the video, multiple videos actually of the same incident from different angles.

I worked in law enforcement. We are trained to act in the moment, and we are given a host of tools to use, and a host of training scenarios in which to respond and use the tools we've been given, all to help us react to real-life situations on the job.

When considering whether to employ force and to what degree depends on the scenario, the entire surroundings, the level of force being used against us, etc. These factors help dictate the level force we should employ: nonlethal, less lethal, or lethal. We are trained that force as a tool is one to employ as a last resort.

The degree of force necessary is always scenario dependant, and must always be reasonable under the circumstances.

We are trained extensively in automobile scenarios, from regular pursuit, to when an officer is unable to free himself from a vehicle whose driver takes flight with the officer hanging on, and to when a driver uses his or her vehicle as a deadly weapon. Each of these scenarios might require the use of force: a pursuit might require a pit maneuver, which could result in death; an officer stuck to a fleeing vehicle might require to use battery on the driver or chemical agents or even deadly force in order to stop the threat; a vehicle that is being used as a deadly weapon always rises to the use of deadly force against the driver of that vehicle.

When a driver uses his or her vehicle as a deadly weapon, i.e., his or her driving is consistent with what a reasonable person would consider a manner that could result in serious bodily injury of death, the threat is imminent and we are trained to employ deadly force in order to eliminate the threat. That is exactly what I saw in the videos in Minneapolis.

From my perspective, based on all of the information I've seen so far, this woman was a protester, she was driving a vehicle, she ignored orders to stop by law enforcement, she knew or should have known that ignoring law enforcement commands was illegal, instead of complying with law enforcement she drove directly into law enforcement officers with her vehicle with a depraved indifference that she could cause serious bodily harm or death. Considering all of the foregoing facts, is was reasonable to believe that the threat of death or serious bodily injury was imminent, and because she ignored law enforcement there was every reason to believe she would continue to do drive in a manner that was likely to cause death or serious bodily injury, and in the case of a continuing threat, deadly force was reasonable.

I would also like to add that the officer had no idea if the woman would back up her car to use as a weapon. So in a split second the officer has to act. This woman had followed them around all day to obstruct them.

Here's what happened: She was sitting there in the road; armed, masked men approached her; she started to leave when they shot her for no apparent reason, other than they thought she was impeding them. The idea that she was "terrorist" is laughable; this is cold blooded murder, plain and simple. NO ICE agents were attacked; the woman was trying to get away.

That question that has to be asked: Is ICE there to arrest illegals or murder people for no reason? Seems to me they're more interested in attacking innocent people than doing their actual job. The officer was heading back to his own car but the woman outside came up behind him. He turned towards her as she says get some lunch big boy. At this time the other officer approaching her car telling her to get out of the car, the officer began heading to assist the one that grabbed the car handle. He didn't make it to the driver side before she looked at him and floored the car to run him over.
He wasn't "standing" in front of the car, he was moving around the car to assist the other officer.
The woman outside the car, then yells, drive baby drive and she headed for the officer who was coming around the front.

At first he went around the back to get a picture of her licence plate. Probably to run it and make sure it was legal.
He then moved towards his own car. (And I'm going to assume, possibly to run the plates) . but got distracted when the woman came up behind him.

He wasn't just standing there, he was on his way to the driver side where the other officer was trying to open the car door.

Deb, I'm not one who would get out and protest ....but if I was, I'd be exercising my RIGHTS as a citizen to FREE SPEECH. It's none of their business to tell people they can't demonstrate. If they're being violent, that's one thing. But it's people in uniform for the most part creating violence.
