I wonder at times when reading of stupid acts like this and against armed people,if those who end up dead had wanted to commit suicide before hand? And they saw an opportunity to accomplish their goal and in the eyes of the foolish,appear heroic or a martyr for some cause.

Carrying extra mags is not uncommon, one of the things you do if you have a malfunction in a pistol is change the magazine.

That being said, he committed several crimes. Interfered with law enforcement, resisted arrest, placing his hand on the gun is menacing and can be construed to threaten law enforcement with deadly force. The videos are not clear with whether he still had the gun in his possession at the time shots were fired, but even if he didn't, a reasonable person would assume that if he was reaching anywhere, he likely had another weapon.
