What is this thing with accusations of unorthodox, heretic, heterodox, pagan, etc.
Seems like blatant tribalism to me. Us versus them. When will we ever learn?

So, was Jesus orthodox?
Or did he operate outside the realm of the orthodoxy of his day?
Was he a heretic by their standards?

I think the idea of Orthodox and UnOrthodox is a human made idea. Its come to represent what is the true or authentic way as opposed to alternative ways.

In some ways a type of Critical theory in that its designed to pull apart and question everything as to its norms. More a social and political lens.

Whereas I think at least with the early church up to around mid 2nd century it was taken for granted as a unified church and teaching. The only teaching and the entire belief being the gospel of Christ.

As simple as coming together and breaking bread and praising God. The main belief and worship being around Christs death and resurrection and followers living like Christ. Joining in the sacrifice of Christ as was still fresh in their hearts and minds.

That I think was the simple message and teaching that Paul and Clement kept reminding the church of. To not stray from this because it is so simple and they knew as Christ knew that followers would come along and complicate this. Add their own flavour and bits. Question its simplicity.

Once this core and simple truth is at the center of the church all else falls into line. There is no division and disputes as all are within the same sacrifice of Christ. Christ not orthodoxy or unorthodoxy is at the core. In that people are transformed in mind and spirit and unified as one.
