Satan abides in hell 1000 years, during the millennial reign of Jesus. He is then released a short while, he leads an attack on Jerusalem, and he is thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:1-10).
Currently Satan roams the earth:
o "I threw you to the earth" (Ezekiel 28:16)
o "the devil prowls around like a roaring lion" (1Peter 5:8).
Jesus will come with his mighty angels, at God's appointed time, after the Jewish temple is rebuilt (Malachi 3:1), and assign Satan to hell (Revelation 19:11-21).
After the millennial reign of Jesus, Satan and his angels will be released. They will surround Jerusalem, intending to attack it, whereupon they will all be thrown back into hell (Revelation 20:7-10). Stubborn, aren't they.
Then come new heavens and new earth (Revelation chapters 21, 22), a do-over of Genesis 1:1.
Isaiah 14:12-22 comments on the insane pride of Satan (a.k.a. "Lucifer"= "Light-Bearer").
