I agree that God saved people before Christ came into the world and that obedience is an important part of living righteously. The point I would make is that even the righteous of the Old Testament were ultimately saved by God's grace through faith, looking forward to the redemption that would be accomplished through Christ. Abraham is a good example of this, as Scripture says that his faith was counted to him as righteousness.
I also agree that believers should remain humble and never become presumptuous. Genuine faith produces obedience, and obedience is evidence of a living faith. At the same time, I see obedience as the fruit of God's saving grace rather than something that makes us worthy of receiving it.
So I think we are in agreement that salvation is God's work, that believers are called to walk in obedience, and that humility before God should characterize the Christian life.
