Hi @Linda,

Thank you for your response.

I agree that God saved people before Christ came into the world and that obedience is an important part of living righteously. The point I would make is that even the righteous of the Old Testament were ultimately saved by God's grace through faith, looking forward to the redemption that would be accomplished through Christ. Abraham is a good example of this, as Scripture says that his faith was counted to him as righteousness.

I also agree that believers should remain humble and never become presumptuous. Genuine faith produces obedience, and obedience is evidence of a living faith. At the same time, I see obedience as the fruit of God's saving grace rather than something that makes us worthy of receiving it.

So I think we are in agreement that salvation is God's work, that believers are called to walk in obedience, and that humility before God should characterize the Christian life. :clmSmlx

Hello,

Yes in large part this is all Gods grace, and
Our being the other part of the equation
Is why obedience comes from wanting
To obey all God requires, and that is where
We either, fail or receive His righteousness.

Amen

Thank you for the discussion.

I agree that genuine faith produces a desire to obey God and that believers are called to walk in righteousness. The only distinction I would make is that I understand Scripture to teach that we receive God's righteousness through faith in Christ, and then obedience follows as the fruit of that new life.

So while obedience is important, I see it as evidence of God's saving work in us rather than the basis upon which we receive His righteousness.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Blessings. :coff
