Mark Chapter 6 holds many amazing revelations!

The whole chapter is below, but I want focus on verse 52.
Jesus came into His own country, sent out the 12 disciples preparing them for the work of their own ministries to come, Jesus' identity is considered, He feeds the 5,000, and then He walks on water and calms the sea--and His disciples "hearts were hardened?"

That is huge--but I will have to continue in the next post because of word count limits.

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

6 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.
4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.

Sending Out the Twelve

7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. 8 He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— 9 but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.
10 Also He said to them, “In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. 11 And [a]whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. [b]Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
12 So they went out and preached that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.

John the Baptist Beheaded

14 Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” 15 Others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is [c]the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
16 But when Herod heard, he said, “This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!” 17 For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. 18 Because John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19 Therefore Herodias [d]held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he [e]did many things, and heard him gladly.
21 Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. 22 And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” 23 He also swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”
24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!”
25 Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. 27 Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.

Feeding the Five Thousand

30 Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.
33 But [f]the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. 35 When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. 36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves [g]bread; for they have nothing to eat.”
37 But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
38 But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
39 Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. 42 So they all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were [h]about five thousand men.

Jesus Walks on the Sea

45 Immediately He [i]made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. 46 And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray. 47 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48 Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, “Be[j] of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” 51 Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. 52 For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.

Many Touch Him and Are Made Well

53 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And when they came out of the boat, immediately [k]the people recognized Him, 55 ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. 56 Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.

It was my wife who picked up on it during our morning Bible reading. What an amazing observation! If anyone of us were there to witness what Jesus' disciples had witnessed--do you really think our hearts would be hardened? It seems more likely that we would be at total surrender, in awe, fully abandoned of any of our own inward thoughts and focused on Jesus like Mary at His feet (as opposed to Martha being troubled of many things). Wouldn't you agree?

That was my wife's observation.

So...what is up--what's going on there? And why did God see fit to include such a strange reaction in His eternal word to be considered?

As I often do, I tried to explain to her that there was more going on than meets the eye; that like Jesus' classic parables, this too was a little story meaning something more, something ultimately bigger--or that there was a bigger picture to be seen and heard. I mean, if "there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written", then we've just seen the tip of the iceberg!

In that bigger picture then--as I explained--Jesus just gave an example of how His sending the 12 out would be multiplied a thousand fold (5 loaves feeding 5,000). That is if you connect the dots. Jesus is then walking on the water...water not just being a term of elements of this world, but an element of biblical use and definition of heavenly proportion... If you are lost already--stop--this is not difficult or a hard saying, but something we all at some point in our biblical knowledge need to understand.

Remember, God is revealing "precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little there a little." Meaning we are suppose to be adding each little thing to a bigger picture God is revealing to us. We are suppose to perceive it as such, and connect the dots, and not miss the forest for the trees because we find it too hard to expand our horizon proportionately in step with God's revealing. And when did that start? It started in the beginning--and God never changes--so it continues even unto the end.

In the beginning...the waters were above the firmament and also below the firmament--which is to say, above the divide between heaven and earth, and also below. But how else is water defined--if we want to define it as the water that He gives us that would cause us to "never thirst" (John 4:14)? Paul alludes with parable language, saying, "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:13). In which case, he defines water as being synonymous with the spirit of God.

Now then, what was the multiplication that Jesus gave (in His line that He placed upon that line given before)? 5 loaves becoming 5,000. Is that everything? In the beginning, in the image of God--how many fingers would that be? Only half. And who had Jesus come for? The House of Israel. Is that everything? How many did Paul include, only half, only Israel (the Jews) in his line upon the line given in the beginning and continued upon by Christ? No, but both the Jews and the Greeks (gentiles), meaning all--all people included in the image of God created in mankind.

But Jesus' disciples in the boat were troubled, their hearts were hardened so they didn't put it together, they just went on following Jesus not fully understanding. But they didn't have the whole big picture laid out in front of them in writing as we do. And after all those things were laid out, walked out, lived out, and written--what did Jesus say to the Church?

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
In conclusion: Water spiritually is: spirit. Making the "precept upon precept, line upon line" in these passages from Mark as showing that Jesus fed half (5 out of 10) among the Jews (Israel), then preceded to walking on water--a demonstration of then going among the Greek (gentiles) in spirit. "To the Jew first and also to the Greek." To Israel in the flesh, and then to the Gentiles in spirit.

That is an interesting mystery being talked of. I couldn’t quite understand everything you were trying to convey, but I do get the meaning of ‘waters’. They talk about the firmament and the waters above (so Wisdom of Him), what do you do in a boat on the water? You traverse. What is holy Wisdom used for? To solve the one big problem that we have on earth, which is sin. So they went into Wisdom (like prayer or meditation on the Lords Word) and were at a loss. Until they saw Jesus in their minds who led them towards the Wisdom they were looking for. This made them successful in ‘traversing the sea’.
Would that be a lesson that is included in the parables? I don’t know, i’m trying to understand.

Excellent work. I don't agree with your piecing of Scripture. The conclusions are correct for we have explicit verses to show that Jew and Gentile would be one body in Christ without having to mystify passages. Many times things were done, simply to do th ething without some deep hidden meanings. Jesus fed the five thousand with a miracle to:

1. Feed the five thousand
2 To shjow He was God on human flesh.

As for walking on water?

1. Catch up to teh disciples.
2. to show He is Lord over the elements.

All othger ideas are mere conjecture and are anywhere from 0-100% wrong.

Mark 6:52 For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.

Jesus feeding the 5,000 recalls the feeding of the multitudes in the wilderness and demonstrated that Jesus was God.

It is after the feeding of the 4,000 (Mark 8) that we read of Peter's revelation of who Jesus was.

The numbers and the details are also not without purpose, but are also prophetic. That detail available to anyone who already accepts that Jesus is God, shows a bigger picture that includes us--and everyone who believes in Him, ever--in His act of feeding in due season, unto every generation. It is a little picture of Him first feeding Israel (5,000), (12 baskets full), then also the gentiles, every nation and people (4,000), (7 baskets full).

So much to be revealed!

Yes I can see that. The number 12 is often associated with Israel ,... and the 7 corresponds with the 7 Gentile churches mentioned in Rev 2 & 3.

Hi @ScottA -

Good Study…Thanks for sharing.

Couple of points…
Human nature is to BELIEVE what they can SEE.

Parables are BY Hearing.

Jesus “taught IN “Parables”
The Catch…
The point of “the parable” IS TRUE.
The “catch is”, regardless of what the “speech” is called (story, parable, etc.) WHEN it comes forth from Jesus’ Mouth…EVERY WORD is TRUE… because He Can NOT LIE.

Some Believed what THEY “SAW”.
BUT… could NOT Believe EVERY word they “HEARD” was True, because it was called a Parable, thus NO consideration was MADE, regarding the One (Jesus) speaking…
Can NOT Lie.

( same is true even today..! )

It is Not so much what a teaching IS Called… rather it all hangs on WHO is Speaking.

Seeing is naturally Believing.
Hearing is wholly dependent upon the speaker.

If a “listener” of a parable, has no consideration of “the” speaker (Jesus) can not Lie…(and every word out of His mouth IS TRUE)…
Yes, doubt, and “heart hardening”… can be a result.

God bless you and yours.

Glory to God,
Taken

Unfortunately, you have not shown the fruits of one who allegedly has been in the third heaven. Many of your "higher spiritual meanings" have no connection to Scripture so thjey must be resisited.

BTW:

you have only declared two things to be false teachings:

1. Jesus will not physically return
2. that the world attacking Israel means it attacks God.

Are there more?

Also you have not defined how one si saved. You just answered ( I paraphrase) that one must accept the calling of god. what does that mean specifically. How does one go from being lost to being saved.

Also it apears you believe a chiuld of God can lose their salvation. Is that correct?

We have been at this on this thread and many others for some time--and yes I have declared the false teachings from the scriptures many times.

As for answering you fully, I have given you more than you asked for.

As for what "appears" to be so according to you--I would not advise trusting in how you see things--it has proven to be successful.

Yes I know it has been successful.

No you have given only two false teachings as I listed them.

So now you are saying the Inspired written Word of god has false teachings in it? WOW!

And still waiting for you to define how one is saved . what must they do to go from bein being lost to becoming a child of God? I really wish too know your answer.

What does it mean for one to give themself wholly to God? How can an unsaved person do that when the Scriptures says that for teh naatural man it is impossible to please god?

You are not Judge...but are a false witness and an accuser.
Well I stand before the Lord Jesus with a pure conscience and bearing His righteousness.

I bear no false witness. And yes I accuse you. You are a slick snake oil salesman. You do not answer questions and many you do, you give cryptic answers that can be construed many ways.

You still have refused to answer how one gives their life fully to god in order to be saved! What must be done.? I do not hate you , but I oppose many things you have written over many threads. You have demeaned the Word of God calling it a basic tool and even carnal. Scripture itself says it is what makes the man of God mature and complete for all good works.

You have have spoken of false teachings fo rnearly two millennia now, but only list two. If there are more you have not written them to me in response to my queries to you. that makes you a poor teacher. For if there are numerous false doctrines and you do not list them and expalin, you withhold vital truth from the brethren! This is not what a servant of God does at all to believers!!!!
You speak only of your understanding, as if that were the test--but it is not.
And you speak only of your understanding and call it "higher spiritual meaning".

Well off til Tuesday

That's going too far, and really is what Lord Jesus meant when He said His Apostles hearts were hardened. He was referring to their having been given spiritual eyes to see, and ears to hear, but their heart was still trusting in men's traditions when they should have understood.

For example, with Jesus' miracle of the five loaves and two fishes, the punch line of His Message below is about the baskets that were left over...

Mark 8:14-21
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

15
And He charged them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod."
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

The subject is Jesus using the idea of leaven in bread as a symbol for the false traditions of the Pharisees, and of king Herod's acts who married his own sister, which caused him to behead John the Baptist for, by which Herod's sister had recommended he do.

17 And when Jesus knew it, He saith unto them, "Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19
When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up?" They say unto Him, "Twelve."
20
"And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up?" And they said, "Seven."
21 And He said unto them, "How is it that ye do not understand?"
KJV

OK, so Jesus referred to the idea of leaven in bread, so that means consider how leaven in bread makes it artificially rise with many tiny air pockets in it to look like you're getting more bread, but in reality you are not.

Five whole loaves of bread went out to the multitude, but 12 baskets of fragments came back. In other words, there was much MORE BREAD that came back in the twelve baskets, but in fragments, i.e., in pieces.

Those baskets of fragments represent men's doctrines acting like 'leaven' added to the original five loaves of bread.

The Matthew 16 version of the above gives a bit more info showing Christ's Apostles after thinking about what He said, caught on to His Message of warning...

Matt 16:11-12
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12
Then understood they how that He bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
KJV

Lord Jesus was simply using the analogy of leaven in bread to represent what the Pharisees and Sadducees were doing with their false doctrines and commandments of men.
