That’s good discernment. This isn’t the story of a Christian. This is the story of an unbeliever.
Unbelievers are enemies of God.
In the eyes of God the unbeliever is a bad man, not a good man. The unbeliever is on the path that leads to destruction in the lake of fire. God wants the unbeliever to get on the path that leads to the life of the coming age. The Great Commission is the process by which enemies of God may become sons (and daughters of God.)
The title of this thread - The good man that turned bad out of necessity - doesn’t fit the storyline from God’s perspective.
Ben Wade didn’t rely on God. He may have done some good works along the way - he‘s certainly done a lot of evil works - but good works won’t make him a son of God.
Acts 8:12 is the Messiah’s evangelism program. In the place of the Ethiopian Eunuch, insert Ben Wade. If Ben responds the way the Ethiopian Eunuch responded, a soul is won for the Messiah; an enemy of God made a son of God. If Ben doesn’t respond the way the Ethiopian Eunuch responded, he remains an enemy of God - a bad man in the eyes of God.
1. The bad man only did it to survive.
2. The bad man is lost. Whether or not he is forever lost depends on his response to the Messiah’s evangelism plan.
3. He will always be a bad man in the eyes of God unless / until he sees, hears, understands and repents. If / when that happens, he is forgiven. The Messiah is the lord of his life, and in the eyes of God he is a good man.
