I have an ethical question. I have an unsaved friend who's having her wedding on Halloween. They're doing a themed wedding with the blood splattered wedding dress, doll head decor, the groom dressed as Michael, etc. She thinks it's hilarious and doesn't understand the implications of what she's doing. I naturally don't want to come into agreement with death. Is there any way to watch them get married without coming into agreement? If not, how do I handle the "no"?

One aspect of an invitation to a wedding is to witness the covenant they make with each other. Another is to participate in their joy.
Maybe you could clarify what you mean by the 'no' ?

I just mean how do I tell her I can't attend.

I wouldn't say No. Halloween has no meaning in this life. It is not as bad as Christ visiting with the Scribes and Pharisees. as well as the harlots and sinners. Go to the wedding is my advice. Let her know that such trivial things as you listed above are irrelevant. She is not suppose to act like a Christian, so show her that love does not get offended by her actions. Always stay willing to witness to her. Whatever you do, make sure you don't make an issue of sin, all unbelievers have been redeemed according to Peter and John. She will not go to hell because she is a sinner. She will go to hell only by rejecting God's offer of salvation.

In high school a friend came up to me at the town fair and asked for money to help him run away from home. I may have just not had the money to spare...but I told him, "I'll help you get out of trouble, but I won't help you get into it."

After he was back home after the runaway ordeal, he must have told his father what I said...'cause he called and offered me a well needed job at his business...and my friend and I remained friends.

I recommend you pray, then give your friend a hug and tell her, "I will go to your wedding, and I will go to your funeral...but I won't be celebrating death at either." Then, let the chips fall where God wills.

You could come from an angle explaining that the motive of death is in conflict with the principle of life and joy which marriage is a promise of?
This is so much better than, "Oh, hell no, you sick bastards! What is WRONG with you?" Which would've been my first reaction. Darn filters.

But, there's always the Ms. Manners tried-and-true, "Thank you for the invitation, but regretfully, I will not be able to attend. Please accept my best wishes."

Truth is so easily a victim of politeness or judgement while 'piety' justifies it.

If she knows you are aa Christian perhaps you could tell her that you will go because you care about her but that you believe all this halloween stuff is wrong. And keep praying for her and her groom.

I have seen first hand how prayer against the occult can work. My non believer freind used to like going into a certain cafe when we went out. It sold crystals and other occult stuff and they also held seances. But she liked it and wasn't aware of any bad vibes. I liked their coffee and scones and used to go to the rest room and pray in tongues against the evil power that was controlling these women. And then one day i want to that town and the cafe had closed.

There is real power in prayer, so pray against the evil that your friend believes in and look to see her set free. There is no danger to you in going to this weird wedding because you are protected by God just as I was in that cafe.

I would politely decline. And further, I would find myself distancing myself from that friend. Got enough foolishness in my life that I don't need to associate with those who may cause me more harm by association. Either by messing around with evil, mocking God, or involving me in their manufactured drama.

What about love? I'm sure someone is asking. I believe love can be demonstrated on my terms, without compromise:
If I am truly displaying the Holiness of God, then the lambs of God will see him within me and we will be drawn into fellowship. Likewise those who hate God should hate me as well, and they may not consciously want to hate their old friends. And so they will try to compromise my image to not reflect Jesus. But never would they consider making compromises themselves.
