I have been greatly concerned about this thread. I approached it with prayer. There are foundational truths that comprise Christianity. These truths have been agreed upon by every early church father and every great man of God since the reformation. The subject of redemption and how it takes place is FOREMOST.

I am just going to post some verses that cannot be held as a prisoners of context. In these I put my hope. They make it VERY clear that Christ came to die for our sins and we are washed clean from our sins by His blood . You cannot become more holy than that. It is also very clear that such redemption is by faith and that the works that we shall be judged by follow salvation and are not the source. Our sin was placed on Christ at the cross and we were made HOLY.

Eph 1:7
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Eph 2:13
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Col 1:14

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Col 1:20
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

1 Pe 1:18-19

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 Jn 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Rv 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

He came to die in our place:

Isa 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isa 53:10-11
Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Mk 10:45
For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Ro 5:12

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Ro 5:8-10
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

2 Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Gal 3:13
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (This is why he had a crown of thorns)

Eph 5:2
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Heb 9:28
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

How do we enter into this redemption?

Here is Paul's gospel. It is very simple and doesn't require a 140 IQ to understand:

1 Co 15:1-4

15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that 1) Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 2)And that he was buried, 3)and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

How does salvation take place? Not by works...works are a result of salvation and not the source

Ro 10:9-11
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Ac 16:31

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Ro 8:24-25

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Eph 2:5-6
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Eph 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2 Ti 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

No room for a second class Christian. Those that are washed in His blood are heirs with Christ.

Tit 3:5-7
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Ro 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Sure our works are not the source.
Faith is the source.

Is obedience of any importance?
Or do we just obey because we wish to?

Works, as mentioned by Paul, are works of the Law.
Works of righteousness are works without the aid of the Holy Spirit
or
works that we think will get us to heaven...works without faith.

Faith without works is a dead faith.
Works without faith are dead works.

You say you know the ECFs.
Did they teach good works?
Did they teach OSAS?

I think we Christians need to begin to be careful about how we
represent our RELIGION.
Christianity is by faith...
but it is also a religion with doctrine, rules, and a history.

If mercy is on the righteous. then it is not really called mercy, it would be called reward.

And who is the one who overcomes?
1 John 5: 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

We do not overcome by being righteous, We overcome by being born of God. because HE overcame the world.
Language EG.
We DO overcome the world by being righteous.
We overcome the world by being right with God.
Being born of God MEANS being right with God.
Your statement is in direct conflict with itself.

And we should depend on the righteousness of Jesus?
Is there some scripture regarding this?

The bible teaches nothing of what you preach brother..You cannot get out of your own pride and patting yourself on the back to even start to understand what true living faith is

2 Tim 2:20
"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour."

No Lizbeth, it doesn't say outside a great house, it says INSIDE a great house. Try again.

The righteous are those who do righteousness.
You need to reconcile that with Romans 9. There are wheat and tares, sheep and goats IN the house, yes. But what happens to the tares/goats? They are bundled and burned, not saved to anything.....they are the same as the vessels of dishonour of the world.

Obedience and works are very important...grace can empower us to perform. The key issue is that such obedience and works are not the source of salvation but rather the RESULT.

They become the source if we do not obey.
This is language.
This is semantics.
But language is important when the salvation of souls is involved.

Here is what Jesus said about works and obedience:

The Wise man
Matthew 7:24-27
24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

The Foolish man
26“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

Plain and simple teaching from Jesus.
If we DO NOT ACT on the words/teachings of Jesus,
our house will fall.

This DOES make obedience a saving factor.
It makes our actions and our good deeds a saving factor.
If we do not obey our house will fall.

Works are never the source of salvation. They are a result of salvation. If works could save then Christ would have never had to die for our sins. However, believe what you wish. We will all find out what the truth is on the day of Judgement.

OK
But I have a little job for you.
In the Greek the word BELIEVE contains the idea of OBEY.
IOW, belief is not separated from obey...
like this
BELIEVE = OBEY

It is like this
BELIEVE OBEY

it is all one thought.

And you missed what I said.

Faith without works is a dead faith.
Works without faith are dead works.

Faith is needed first and foremost.
Without works,,,
faith is dead, and of no use to us.

Works do not save as you've posted above and which is misrepresenting what I've stated.

Seems important to me.

This is where a very limited understanding gets in the way so that God is blasphemed in the earth. Denial of the truth is unbelief. How many believers of today will be rejected because of unbelief? Legions. And even if one of the deceived ones came back from the dead to warn the others about the truth.....that person would just be mocked and would be considered as being the one in delusion. Anybody over 13 should recognize that. So then people are very easily deceived...especially concerning things that are invisible like spiritual things. The devil has a very easy time deceiving people.

If it was up to me I would never be a Christian based on the examples I see in the religion that show me the hypocrisy and lack of knowledge we see here. The very worst attitudes are found here. Mockers and liars. People preach a cross that they refuse for themselves. Certainly not followers of Christ themselves. Are these historians? Is that what matters....getting the facts straight?

The conundrum lies with people taking a few verses from the bible out of context...and then using that to ignore the teachings ...even the very words of Jesus. People use Paul to overthrow Jesus all the time...but Paul says of these that they know nothing. And I can attest to that.

I have tried to show the balance that the bible speaks of in HUNDREDS of verses....on the 2 levels of God's ways.

But the bent in people is so strong that a blind eye to Jesus' words is seen as something salvific... at least in the mind.

God has sent strong delusion so that people who don't understand God's ways will be condemned who believed the lie.

People forego mercy on themselves because they deny it to others.

People condemn themselves to rejection because they claim a standard that they don't even take seriously. No fear of God at all.

Who listens to Jesus? Few if any around here. People prefer to trust in Jesus for their private salvation according to their wishes and tastes....as if Jesus was just like a children's doll that you can make up a pretend relationship with. And if you pull the string on that doll you get words that you might think are cute, but it's just a toy so you don't have to play along. People sing those words without taking any notice. These are a law unto themselves, refusing to be conformed to the commands of Christ.

And these same people try to condemn me on a technicality...on a religious slogan that they can parrot...but they are empty in their heart. Drawing near with the mouth is all they want...and they congratulate each other for religious slogans. But they are empty...void of life.

I will always defend righteousness in any form....as I learned from God. God is more merciful than men on the one hand...and much harder than men on the other. The fear of the Lord makes sure we don't get that mixed up.

I preach the fear of the Lord and righteousness. People who are opposed to God and His ways preach BELIEFS and call that faith.

But we show our faith by obedience. It takes faith to fear the Lord. The reason why modern believers don't fear the Lord is because they have no faith. No, they have beliefs ABOUT Jesus and what they think He can do for them. Lip service.

How can I even speak of the New Covenant among such lawless people? There is no point in trying to enter a kingdom that a person is not qualified for. How can we speak of the kind of surrender it takes to be noticed by God? How can I speak of the faith that is required to be translated into God's presence to walk in the Spirit WHERE Jesus is?

But these things are either beneath the modern religionists or else so far above him that no attention is made. Instead these follow a religion that is tailor made just for them...because it was made for them as they are, carnal to the extreme. Did God make it? Yes, but not for the purpose that people think. God has chosen the delusion that will snare those who hate the truth...who hate His ways.

Let the hostility of the unbelievers be on me. It's all benefit to me.

There is some truth here. I remember a discussion I was having with "Doug" He is a hyper-dispensationists who claims the words of Jesus, even the sermon on the mount, are only for Israel and not the church. When I asked him whose disciple he was he said he followed Paul as Paul followed Christ. He has no answer for 1Tim 6:3.

I don't think I am an exception to being decieved. I just follow the faith that delivered me from the world and moved many mountains in my life. My main hope is that the Lord gets glory from my existence and I seek him for this daily. I love Him and that is progress. I fall short in so many areas but I hope in Him. Jesus is Lord

Matthew 7:21
21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven
will enter.

Scary, isn't it?
Unless we're doing our best and our conscience is clear.
1 Timothy 1:5
5But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Although I agree,,,I'd have to say that a little humility would make your statements more acceptable, even if some do not agree with them.

Jesus said He did not recognize some because they were LAWLESS...without the Law.
The Law of Christ.

But in these modern days, I hear that Jesus said this because they were not born again.

Jesus mentioned being born again maybe 2X in all of the NT.
What He DID teach about was belonging to the Kingdom...How to be a member,
and how to bring the Kingdom of God on earth by following His teachings.

I'd say that it's good to do YT, write books and post on these forums.
How much good it will do is up to those that have ears to hear.
Certainly some will understand.

Some are not carnal,,,but they use language that is incorrect and leads to incorrect doctrine.
We all read the same bible,
but we use different dictionaries.

You need to reconcile that with Romans 9. There are wheat and tares, sheep and goats IN the house, yes. But what happens to the tares/goats? They are bundled and burned, not saved to anything.....they are the same as the vessels of dishonour of the world.
No, you have to reconcile it.

Remember it's in a great house.
Matt. 25:46 says
"And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."
Where does it say the goats are bundled and burned? This sounds like outer darkness, because Acts 2:21 says, "whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Saved to what....??? God decides.

God does not have very much mercy if he requires man to be perfect to be saved.
If YOUR statement is true?
Then you are making FALSE this statement!:
1 Peter 2:5
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up SPIRITUAL sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
You are confusing God's MERCY to "be", with God's GRACE (which is earned by the way) in continuing TOWARDS "the strait and NARROW gate!"
Which MAKES this statement TRUE.......and NO LIE!
Hebrews 6:1
Therefore LEAVING the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Nice post S.

Let's remember what Jesus said and begin to be careful with our words:
Luke 6:46
46“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

Not referring this verse to you.
But I DO believe it's very important to be careful to state that it
is absolutely necessary to say that God must be obeyed.

To say that works, good deeds, behavior Jesus would approve, does not
save is to misrepresent what Jesus taught.

I remember it was John who said "perfect love cast out all fear" but just look at what he did when he saw the risen glorified Christ in Rev 1. He fell at his feet as dead. Standing before a Holy Glorified Jesus is more than just fear...Paul said it was TERROR!

2 Co 5:11
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;

Your warnings against spiritual presumption and a lack of the fear of the Lord should resonate with a child of God
