A Catholic diocese is publicly telling families to recognize Mary as “Queen of the Universe,” consecrate themselves to her, and pray to her. On August 22, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence published material for the “Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.” It says Mary was crowned “Queen,” instructs families to give her an honored place in their homes, pray to her, and consecrate their lives and possessions to her. Another Catholic archdiocese published a defense of Mary's alleged queenship the same day.

Why it matters: This is not a minor denominational custom. Scripture never calls Mary the Queen of Heaven, never commands Christians to consecrate themselves to her, and never tells believers to pray to her. Mary herself said, “My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:46-47, KJV). Jesus Christ is the one Mediator: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).

Jeremiah's references to the “queen of heaven” certainly do not support this practice. They describe an object of idolatrous worship that provoked God's anger (Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17-25).

Good morning,

Although I stand with Christ and our father, and not in any darkness that might be sown by Satan among men, or that might have snuck into any denomination called Christian among mankind.

The Queen of Heaven refers to something regarding Babylon and Egypt with Sodom.

There are those in India today I have heard, Africa included, perhaps Asian areas that sacrifice to idols of gold and silver, and precious things of earrth.

Likewise there are those that worship old Greek goddesses of the Roman type, taught from before and after Christ regarding Babylon from Daniel's time as contained in the book of Jeremiah.

You can still find her described, I think, in some countries folk religions, or India I think, Africa as a sexual goddess or other versions of that female. The male dark being of Babylon I'm not sure is mentioned except in Daniel's book.

Those religions blasphemy God, by calling God as a sinner, or painting him out that way, as they attempted to do in Sodom and Egypt against our lord Jesus the Christ. Jesus in fact whom honored our father in heaven with a pure and holy sacrifice of his life, out of love for us, God's children. Therefore we honor him.

God is of course good, virtuous, the holy beeing, without blemish or flaw, perfect of law, redeemer of his people. The savior and messiah of his creations. Also the creator.

The destroyer, as created thru the fall, by that old serpent thru Eve and Adam, is the darkness of death, which is sin. Also sin and death are disobedience to the laws and commandments of the almighty God, death is defiance of God's commandments.

Therefor, that God loved his creations sought to redeem them thru Christ our lord, and succeeded for those that desire to know him and his ways.

Ashtoreth was the Queen of Heaven; The Mother god of the Canaanites. During Jeremiah's time, idol worship was a family affair. That's why Jeremiah 7:18 mentions children and fathers and mothers involvement in idol worship.

The references are from Egypt which is probably Isis.

The book of Jeremiah and Isaiah mention the second exodus out of Egypt of the remnant of the Jews. Which is different. It would be Egypt and perhaps poured drinks to something like Isis.

There is another king overthrown in those bible texts, Jordan is also destroyed along with Egypt.

I hope that helps. All of that is pre Christ's time as far as Isis, but the 2nd Exodus might extend into modern days.

I think it is Isaiah 11.

Hope that helps,

The OP is just a troll and looks to create trouble. He follows AI and is very unlearned and unstable.

The OP contains a link to the article published on August 22, 2026 on the Diocese of Providence website "Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary".

I would say the subject is worthy of consideration in the debate section on a Christian forum ... without denigrating the poster of the OP.

You can look up any pagan religion regarding female goddesses.

But unfortunately the references regarding the female defined in Jeremiah refers to Jews that dwelt in Egypt, and a few other regions, including Pathos where the book of Esther was about.

Therefore that region was northern Egypt thru Persia, India and I consider perhaps Asia, where the book of revelation was directed to Asia's 7 churches. Thus the woman mystery of Babylon.

The currently searched references to female goddesses of those regions of the pagan type beliefs are odd, yet some of war goddesses or sexual goddesses or fertility goddesses and others.

The book referencing "the queen of heaven" that angered God, relate to Jeremiah's book to those regions and idol worship as well. Around 600-500 is near that time. I'm not sure regarding information that survived from those times except thru archeological excavations. Depictions of Egypt is one I quoted called Isis. Others of India and Asia might contain others.

The queen of Heaven in Jeremiah is Asherah and the storyline there is that the Jews refused to stop worshipping her.
As far as an altar in your home for Mary, South American Catholics have been doing for over a hundred years. The Lady of Guadalupe (Mary) is credited with starting Christianity in South America. But you are right, the reverence for Mary is not in the scriptures. It is a Catholic belief, so unless your Catholic it does not matter.
The reverence for Mary is part of the Catholic religious evolution due to the thousands of miracles associated with her.

The concept of the woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet is not only found in revelation. She is an ongoing vision of heavenly holy messages.

She, travailing in birth. To give birth to a manchild that was to rule the nations with a rod of iron. A mighty heavenly mother, woman of God.

It is the story of Mary and being honored by God, to be found worthy to bare the pure and innocent and holy lord God and Jesus the Christ the promised messiah.

In visions, not just to John in revelation, but Vietnamese and South Americans, she can appear holding her son in similar image to John's vision.

Christ is the manchild, and Emanuel. And now risen to heaven to give, with his father, the almighty miracles of salvation ongoing of his promised kingdom of heaven and earth.

The woman in vision also represents his church and people, at the marriage and feast of the children of God. The child she bares and holds, we servants help carry. The child is seen as Christ Jesus, as they the church and those they hope to invite in are important to Christ. And we treat them as we would treat ourselves in goodness, patience and long suffering in worship and honor of God and his people.

We are not cruel to the new child, as we would not be cruel to the child Christ as we hope to follow him the way he desires, humble, sincere and loving.

While heavenly mother is important to many. And yet to be witnessed to many. We do not mock God or blaspheme his holy angels, those sealed by God his servants. As they are sealed with his holy spirit. We do not wish to mock him. As he who speaks against them speak against the one who sends them. Which is the lord.

We take off our sandals and walk humbly on the mountain of God and his lord. We do not trample under foot that which is holy.

Just look at how verses in the bible referred to the Asherah poles in the high places all over Israel. This what God hated. Even Gideon tore down an Asherah pole beside a baal alter. God wanted all of them removed and I believe King Josiah was the only King that did.

As a lifelong Catholic - I've NEVER seen an Altar to Mary.
A commemorative shrine is NOT an altar. If you knpw ANYHING about Scripture - you would know that an Altar is for offering SACRIFICE to God.

Do your homework, for cryin' out loud . . .

I am not condemning altars to Mary or the Lady of Guadalupe.....They are both Mary....real name Miriam.

Altars to the Lady of Guadalupe are sacred, often home-based spaces dedicated to the Virgin Mary as seen in the 1531 apparition at Tepeyac, blending Catholic devotion, Mexican cultural identity, and personal family traditions.

Well, I know you're just a forum troll - but I just couldn't resis giving you a mucc-needed Bible Lesson . . .

For starters – most of the an-Catholic nonsense that Mary’s Queenship is based on pagan religions and practices by non-Catholics who have NO understanding of the history of Israel. This ridiculous notion was spread by staunch anti-Catholics like Alexander Hislop, Loraine Boettner and Jack T. Chick.

For example, Hislop’s 19th century attack on Christ’s Church, “The Two Babylons”, is an exercise in sloppy historical research, personal vendetta and false accusations. This book has been heavily-debunked, not only by informed Catholics but by educated Protestants and former Hislop devotees .

One of Hislop’s staunchest adherents, Ralph Woodrow was so obsessed with Hislop that he wrote his own book called "Babylon Mystery Religion". HOWEVER - when doing some actual research for a follow-up book, he discovered to his horror that his hero Hislop simply MADE UP all of his nonsense because of his hatred for the Catholic Church.

Woodrow quickly pulled his book from print and published a work debunking Hislop called "The Babylon Connection?"

He now runs a website APOLOGIZING for his first book and trying to make sure that people know about Hislop's garbage. Apparently - YOU and others here didn't get the memo . . .

In the Davidic Kingdom, the wife of the King was NOT the Queen – but rather, his mother was elevated to that station. The title Gebirah (Gebira), meaning “Great Lady” or “Queen Mother” was a royal title and an office which was bestowed upon the mothers of the Kings of Israel - but only to those in the line of David.

Jesus Christ is the heir of David. He is the fulfillment of the covenant promises made to David in 2 Samuel 7:16; 23:5, and repeated to Mary in Luke 1:26-36. Mary’s son rules from the Kingdom of the heavenly Jerusalem. It is fitting that His mother should have the SAME role that other Davidic Queen mothers had, which is the royal office of the heavenly Gebirah.

1 Kings 2:19-20 tells us: So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him about Adonijah; the king got up to meet her and bowed before her; he then sat down on his throne; a seat was brought for the king’s mother, and she sat down on his right.

“There is one small favor I would ask of you,” she said. “Do not refuse me.” “Ask it, my mother,” the king said to her, “for I will not refuse you.”

Just as with the Davidic Kingdom, Jesus is the King - and Mary is the Queen Mother.

ASKING (praying) for her prayerful intercession is what we do. It has NOTHING to do with “worship” . . .

Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary:

Full Definition of pray
transitive verb
1:
entreat, implore —often used as a function word in introducing a question, request, or plea<pray be careful>
2: to get or bring by praying

intransitive verb
1:
to make a request in a humble manner
2: to address God or a god with adoration, confession, supplication, or thanksgiving

Acts 27:34

"Wherefore I PRAY YOU to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you".

An "Alter" is for offeering SACRIFICES to God.

This is a PRAYER SHRINE - for the prayerful request of iintercession.
This is NOT an "Altar" for offering SACRIFICE - which is the very definition of "Altar".

Show me ONE teaching froom the Catechism that instructs Catholics to build ALTARS to Mary or to WORSHIP her.
Please do some homework before posting about this . . .

And I am a college educated Theologian and I know all about the Catholics and their history. Centuries ago the Catholic Church did wonderful things....Priests, monks, and nuns. But all that gets overlooked and buried in history because of the atrocities of Church. Horrors that even the Nazis could not compare. Atrocities that the Catholic Church has publicly apologized for.

Then again after Vatican II the modern Catholic Church is much better church. Your neighborhood church is a good church. I worship with many denominations including the Catholics. But I still would not give you 2 cents for the Vatican. And I do pray to Mary.

People that have them call them altars. Type in Altar to the Lady of Guadalupe in your browser and you will get all the information you need. And I never said the Church mandated them. Catholics do not worship Mary in the strictest sense, they pray to her for help and intercession.
Do my homework? LOL And I got to tell ya, you are the worst example of a Catholic that I have ever met.

Congratulations on your college years.
Unfortunately, you don’t know much about actual
Catholic doctrine . . .
Centuries ago the Catholic Church did wonderful things....Priests, monks, and nuns. But all that gets overlooked and buried in history because of the atrocities of Church. Horrors that even the Nazis could not compare. Atrocities that the Catholic Church has publicly apologized for.
Then why hasn’t the Protestant realm apologized for THEIR many “Nazi-esque” atrocities against Catholics?
Perhaps, the penitent group is where the truth lives . . .

Then again after Vatican II the modern Catholic Church is much better church. Your neighborhood church is a good church. I worship with many denominations including the Catholics. But I still would not give you 2 cents for the Vatican. And I do pray to Mary.
I hope you’re just praying for purposes of intercession and not for worship . . .
