I just re-read this hypocritical statement . . .

WHY is it that we Catholics have to sit there and let everybody defecate on our beliefs without exposing them?
I caught you in a dpoctrinal LIE - so YOU got angry at me and said I was a "bad example".

A textbook case pof the pot calling the kettle black . . .

Doctrinal lie? How many ways can I prove you wrong?
And I do not "defecate" on Catholic beliefs.
Learn manners!

Altars to the Virgin Mary: Meaning, Traditions, and Where to Find Them

An altar to the Virgin Mary is a sacred or devotional space dedicated to honoring and praying to the Blessed Mother in Catholic tradition. It can be a church altar, a private home altar, or a seasonal display such as a May Altar, and it serves as a focal point for prayer, reflection, and veneration.

Religious Significance

In Catholicism, Mary is honored as the Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and a model of faith and purity. Altars to her are designed to help the faithful venerate her, seek her intercession, and meditate on her life and virtues. Such altars often feature statues of Mary, saints associated with her, candles, flowers, and religious art.

Common Traditions

  • Marian Altars in Churches: Many parishes have dedicated Marian altars, sometimes with statues of Mary holding the Child Jesus, flanked by saints like St. Cecilia or St. Agnes
  • May Altars: A centuries-old tradition where a special altar is set up in homes or churches during the month of May, decorated with flowers, candles, and Marian symbols.
  • Private Home Altars: Individuals create personal altars in their homes, often with a statue of Mary, a rosary, candles, and other devotional items.

How to Create Your Own Altar

According to Saint Jerome Church’s guidance.
  1. Choose a location — a quiet, respectful space in your home or garden.
  2. Select a theme — e.g., “Our Lady of Guadalupe” or “Immaculate Heart of Mary.”
  3. Adorn with symbols — statues of Mary, candles, fresh flowers, rosaries, and religious art.
  4. Incorporate prayer — spend time in contemplation and offer prayers to Mary.
  5. Maintain and update — refresh the altar regularly, especially during Marian feasts.

Where to Find Altars and Decor

  • Etsy offers a wide range of handmade and crafted altars, statues, and Marian art — from wooden Virgin Mary statues to resin figurines, altar trays, and religious prints.
  • Pinterest provides inspiration boards for altar design and decoration.
  • Local churches may have altars or offer guidance for creating your own.
Tip: Whether you choose a store-bought altar or create one yourself, the key is to make it a sacred space for prayer and reflection that honors Mary’s role in the Catholic faith.

Altar to the Lady of Guadalupe
An “altar to the Lady of Guadalupe” is a devotional table or shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, often featuring her image, religious art, and symbolic objects, and may be found in churches, homes, or personal shrines.

Religious and Cultural Significance

Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most venerated images of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Catholic Church, associated with the 1531 apparition to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico. She is patroness of Mexico and Latin America, and her image is central to Mexican Catholic identity. Altars to her serve as focal points for prayer, reflection, and cultural heritage, often incorporating Marian symbols such as the tilma, roses, and the starry mantle.

Example: Basilica’s Altar to Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Little Flower Basilica in San Antonio, Texas, houses a special altar to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The image is a replica of the original Tepeyac painting, painted by Mexican artist A. G. Guerra, and set in an ornate gold‑leaf frame from Monterrey, Mexico. The altar, made of Vermont marble, was donated in memory of Dorothy Needham Krebs and blessed in 1947. It includes a small piece of the original Tepeyac mountain, symbolizing the “roses of her love” falling on the faithful. This altar has been a place of spiritual consolation and a reminder of home for Mexican‑American communities.

Home Altars and Personal Devotion

In Mexican‑American households, home altars often feature Our Lady of Guadalupe alongside family portraits, rosary beads, and other devotional items. These altars are central to family life, used for daily prayers, celebrations, and times of need. They blend personal devotion with cultural identity, often reflecting the “Patria” (homeland) connection.

Where to Find Altars

  • Churches and shrines: Many Catholic churches, especially in Mexican‑American communities, have dedicated altars to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
  • Home altars: Families may create their own altars using images, statues, and symbolic objects.
  • Online marketplaces: Sites like Etsy offer altars, statues, prints, and devotional items for personal shrines.
In summary, an altar to the Lady of Guadalupe is both a sacred space and a cultural symbol, rooted in the veneration of the Virgin Mary’s apparition to Juan Diego, and it can range from a grand church altar to a personal home shrine.Mary.jpg

For starters, the image you posted is NOT an Altar. it's a STATUE.
You might even call it a mobile Shrine.

Also, when investigating a religious belief that you reject – go to an OFFICIAL valid source.
You might want to try a Catholic source to see what we actually teach.

Let’s start with the etymology of the word “Altar”.
The Hebrew word for "altar” (Mizbeach)," literally means "place of SLAUGHTER."

Now, let’s go to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) to see what “those darn Catholics” teach . . .
Altar (CCC):

1182: The altar of the New Covenant is the Lord's Cross,59 from which the sacraments of the Paschal mystery flow. On the ALTAR, which is the center of the church, the SACRIFICE of the Cross is made present under sacramental signs. The altar is also the table of the Lord, to which the People of God are invited.60 In certain Eastern liturgies, the altar is also the symbol of the tomb (Christ truly died and is truly risen).

1383: The altar, around which the Church is gathered in the celebration of the Eucharist, represents the two aspects of the same mystery: the altar of the sacrifice and the table of the Lord. This is all the more so since the Christian altar is the symbol of Christ himself, present in the midst of the assembly of his faithful, both as the victim offered for our reconciliation and as food from heaven who is giving himself to us.

Here are s few secular scholarly sources that get it right – unlike YOU . . .
Merrriam-Webster's Dictionary
altar

noun
al·tarˈȯl-tər
1
: a usually raised structure or place ON WHICH SACRIFICES ARE OFFERED or incense is burned in worship
—often used figuratively to describe a thing given great or undue precedence or value especially at the cost of something else sacrificed his family life on the altar of career advancement
2
a: a tablelike construction used in the Christian church in celebrating the Eucharist

Encyclopedia Britannica
Altar: in religion, a raised structure or place that is used for SACRIFICE, worship, or prayer.

NewAdvent Catholic Encyclopedia:
“As soon as men conceived the idea of offering sacrifices to the Deity they felt the need of places specially designed for this end.“ These primeval specimens of altars were necessarily most simple, very likely consisting of a heap of stones or earth, suitable for the fire and the victims.

“… such also were the altars built up by Noah after the flood (Genesis 8:20); by Abraham in Sichem (Genesis 12:7), Bethel (Genesis 12:8; 13:4), Mambre (Genesis 13:18), and at the place where he had been about to sacrifice his son (Genesis 22:9); by Isaac and Jacob at Bersabee (Genesis 26:25; 46:1), and by the latter in Galaad (Genesis 31:54).”

- An ALTAR is a place for offering sacrifice and or religious rituals.
- A SHRINE is a place of veneration dedicated to a specific deity, ancestor, hero, martyr, saint, etc.

We see makeshift shrine on roadsides where a person was killed in an auto accident. Many loved ones and friends place flowers and other decorations to commemorate the fallen.
Theuy DON'T offer up sacrifices . . .
