Does a squirrel or a worm have a spirit?
If there is not spirit there is not life. Hear the words of Christ through John telling us the spirit gives life [quickeneth] but the flesh profits nothing. Life in every living, breathing creature on the earth comes from spirit. Even sea creatures must breathe to live. Sea creatures “breathe” in the sense that they exchange gases — taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide — but the mechanism varies from gills to skin to lungs depending on the species and its environment. Yes, even worms breathe through their skin, this process is called 'cutaneous respiration'. The worms rely on moisture to absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide.
John 6:63 (KJV) It is
the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and
they are life.
Is a newborn baby endowed with the Spirit of God or a spirit God has made and given to that newborn baby?
No! A baby, like all of humanity are mortal and destined to mortal death. Babies are physically born with body of flesh, alive through spirit and called living souls. The Spirit of God, with the exception of Christ and John-the-Baptist is naturally born in mortal flesh in the likeness and image of their natural father just as Seth was born in the likeness and image of Adam. This is why all man desiring to have everlasting or eternal life must be born again through the Spirit sent from Christ.
Ge 5:1 ¶ This
is the book of the generations of Adam.
In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Ge 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Ge 5:3 And
Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
You will no doubt wonder how can a baby or a mentally impaired person be born again? The answer written through Paul is simply that God has mercy and compassion upon whom He chooses.
Romans 9:8 (KJV) That is, They which are
the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Ro 9:15 For he saith to Moses,
I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Ro 9:16 So then
it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
When mankind sins their spirit dies. When a man finds Jesus that spirit is made alive and they are ALSO given the Holy Spirit.
The spirit did not die in A&E when they sinned. They eventually physically died because the life-giving Spirit from God departed from them, and the LORD sent an evil spirit [serpent] to torment them. We find truth of this through King Saul.
1 Samuel 16:14 (KJV) But
the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
When a man turns to Christ in faith, they have physical life through natural spirit, but since the natural spirit in them is not from Christ, and destined to die, man is born again, not naturally or physically, but supernaturally through the Spirit of Christ. This is why Christ tells us "
Ye must be born again", saying "
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
What denomination of christianity teaches this? Is this your own conception?
There are a few verses showing physical death for believers is not the end for us. Because when we breathe our last as born again believers, we are then present with the Lord in heaven. That's why Christ tells the repentant thief on the cross that he would be with Christ in paradise that very day. Even David understood that when Messiah came he would not be left in the realm of the dead. Paul also speaks of this, longing to be absent from his mortal body of flesh that he might be with the Lord in heaven, leaving his body that he as spiritual body would be living soul in heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:1 (KJV) For we know that if our earthly house of
this tabernacle were dissolved,
we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2Co 5:6 Therefore
we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2Co 5:8 We are confident,
I say, and willing rather
to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Luke 23:43 (KJV) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Acts 2:27 (KJV) Because
thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Php 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having
a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Php 1:24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh
is more needful for you.
1Co 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith
is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
1Co 15:18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
1 Corinthians 15:20 (KJV) But
now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
1 Corinthians 15:35 (KJV) But some
man will say,
How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
1 Corinthians 15:36 (KJV) Thou fool,
that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
1Co 15:37 And that which thou sowest,
thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other
grain:
1Co 15:38 But
God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
1 Corinthians 15:44 (KJV) It is
sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
1Co 15:45 And so it is written, The first man
Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
1Co 15:46 Howbeit that
was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
1Co 15:47 The first man
is of the earth, earthy: the second man
is the Lord from heaven.
1Co 15:48 As
is the earthy, such
are they also that are earthy: and as
is the heavenly, such
are they also that are heavenly.
1Co 15:49 And
as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that
flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
These verses together show that, according to the Bible, when a believer’s body departs, their soul is taken to be with the Lord—either “in paradise” , “at home with the Lord”, or in the presence of God in the new creation. From natural body of flesh to spiritual body a living soul in heaven. This is the biblical basis for the belief that believers leave their bodies and go to heaven.
