Yes that's sad about her being a Buddhist.

I heard she’s in an irreversible coma it will be for the rest of her life.
Eventually if she lives, after all the pentobarbital is out of her, they will do a brain death assessment, and if brain dead, her medical team will take her off life support, no court order required. I feel like she is not really alive, just kept in a zombie living state. The drugs did kill her, just not quick.

She got a double lethal dose, clearing that by liver and kidneys is very toxic to those organs. She went without enough oxygen long enough that the brain is damaged. She can't breath on her own, meaning her brain stem which controls autonomic systems is dead too. She has no blood pressure without them giving her vasopressor drugs.

The brainstem controls vital automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, swallowing, sleep–wake cycles, consciousness, reflexes (like coughing and gagging), and many facial and eye movements.

Overview

The brainstem is the lower part of the brain that connects the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord. It includes the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. It acts as the body’s automatic control center, managing essential life-sustaining functions. Encyclopedia Britannica Encyclopedia Britannica

Key Functions of the Brainstem

1. Vital Autonomic Functions

  • Breathing regulation (rate and rhythm)
  • Heart rate control
  • Blood pressure regulation
  • Swallowing and digestion-related reflexes
  • Temperature and vasomotor control

2. Consciousness and Sleep

  • Maintains alertness, wakefulness, and sleep–wake cycles via the reticular activating system.
    Simply Psychology Simply Psychology

3. Reflexes

  • Coughing, sneezing, gagging, blinking, pupillary light reflex, and other protective reflexes.
    clevelandclinic.org clevelandclinic.org

4. Movement and Sensory Control

  • Controls eye movements, facial movements, facial sensation, hearing, balance, and coordination.
  • Acts as a major pathway for motor and sensory signals between the brain and body.

5. Cranial Nerve Functions

Most cranial nerves originate in the brainstem, enabling:

Summary

The brainstem is essential for survival because it regulates the body’s most critical involuntary functions—breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, consciousness, and protective reflexes—while also serving as the main communication highway between the brain and the rest of the body.

If we are going to execute, I think the guillotine is the best execution device. I suppose we like electric chairs and injections because it hides the brutal and barbaric act our society embraces, akin to buying meat processed at the grocery story as opposed to having to butcher the animal oneself.

I suspect there'd be more vegetarians if people had to butcher their own meat. And if execution was a lottery, like jury duty, and you had to be the one to execute someone, there'd be less support for capital punishment.

In this respect, I can understand being a premeditated murderer than being an executioner. Imagine looking in the eyes of a stranger, each of you knowing you are there to take their life? It's easier to medicalize execution. She just 'went to sleep.' Self-deception.

Instant, most painless, and the convict is thoroughly dead after. The loss of BP causes instant death to the brain, although it might feel like a swoon-faint to the person for a couple of seconds.

The optics to the public dictate today what is allowed and what is unacceptable.

All executions are violent, sanitized death does not exist in a prison.

WARNING. GRUESOME DETAILS FOLLOW. I just watched a YouTube vid of the last 12 minutes of a movie about Ted Buddy, including the execution scene. Along with shaving his head, other preparations were made. The movie version made it seem Ted didn’t know about these procedures, making the experience more traumatic. To prevent him from defecating, as all who get electrocuted do, they implement the following procedures:
  1. Put a whole jar’s worth of Vaseline up his rectum.
  2. Pack whatever is remaining in the cavity with cotton balls.
  3. Put an adult diaper on the prisoner.
Electricity flowed for what seemed like a long time. His fist never relaxed. Neither did his legs. Although they put a leather mask on him so the audience will not be disturbed by his eyes coming out of his head, the warden knew the court order had been carried out when blood starting flowing out of the mask from his eyes.

By comparison, medicalizing an execution gives us, the living, less discomfort in the damage done internally. Look how peaceful she sleeps. Yea, no. My daughter is a nurse. Last night she had a patient who made a suicide attempt was only 19 yo. She’s brain dead and will be kept alive by a machine for the rest of her life. What cost? What ethics of economics? What are we doing?

If you don't want the death penalty then do not the crime.

Acts 25:11
For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die:
Rom 13:4
But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Not sure why you’re trying to make this personal. You didn’t answer my questions. Check out this thread

In the Bible, the community led by Moses took a man out of the camp and stoned him to death. That level of pain was acceptable to God and should be acceptable to us. Consider the cost? Stones are cheap. Holding someone for decades is expensive, as in the TN case. What are you doing? Victims of the Prison Industrial Complex.

What did Christa Pike do?

Crime Details

  • Pike, her boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp, and another teen led 19 year old female Colleen Slemmer to a wooded area near the University of Tennessee’s agricultural campus.
  • Slemmer was beaten, stabbed, and had a pentagram carved into her chest. Pike reportedly kept a piece of the victim’s skull.
  • Pike confessed to the killing shortly after her arrest.
  • Shipp avoided the death penalty because he was 17 at the time and received life imprisonment.

Legal Outcome

  • Pike was convicted of first‑degree murder and conspiracy to commit first‑degree murder.
  • She was sentenced to death on March 30, 1996, becoming one of the youngest women ever sentenced to death in modern U.S. history.
  • She has spent nearly 30 years on death row, much of it in solitary confinement.
  • Her execution was scheduled for September 30, 2026, which would make her the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years. But after 2 attempts the execution failed. She is now in a hospital in critical condition.

Background and Mitigation Claims

Pike’s attorneys and human‑rights advocates have argued for clemency, citing:
  • A childhood marked by severe sexual abuse, neglect, and trauma.
  • Mental health issues, including bipolar disorder and neurological impairments.
  • The argument that her youth and traumatic background contributed to her action.
If she survives it is probably best if she is sentenced to a mental institution for the rest of her life.
She is one of reasons that I would suggest a firing squad. It is cheaper and is a sure thing.
I am thinking she or her family could sue the state.

If a country has the death penalty by whatever method and you do the crime then you chose your fate.

IOW you want to KILL! May God have more mercy on you than you have on others!!!
So you reject the teachings of Jesus VIA Paul ?
