Why would you take it literally as if they are literal locusts? Why would literal locusts have a fallen angel as their king? That makes no sense. The fact that Abaddon is a fallen angel is a very strong indication that the locusts symbolically represent fallen angels and they have Abaddon as their king. Who else but Satan could be called the king of the fallen angels? They are "his angels" (Matthew 25:41, Revelation 12:9).

They are locust-like creatures, not literal locust. They are described in Revelation 9:7-10 .

Satan lead the revolt against God, convincing a third of the angels to side with him (Satan).

Abaddon is one of those revolting angels, who is presently in the bottomless pit.

Satan in not Abaddon, because Satan is the falling star in Revelation 9:1-2 who will open the bottomless pit, that releases the locust-like creatures and their king Abaddon.

The flesh tormenting locust creatures released from the bottomless pit have a king over them named Abaddon (in Hebrew), Apollyon (in Greek). Revelation 9:11. Abaddon is a fallen angel, a cohort of Satan, but not Satan himself.

In Revelation 9:1, the star that falls from heaven, who opens the bottomless pit will be Satan, when Satan is cast down to earth in Revelation 12:7-9.

Satan himself is the king and angel over the bottomless pit. He will ascend... out of that bottomless pit (hell) which is in the heavenly dimension. That is his home base, his office.

Abaddon and Apollyon is interpreted as The Destroyer, and that is Satan himself.

That above "prison" is about the bottomless pit in heaven, Satan's abode he is over. It's simply another name for 'hell' (Hades). And it ain't.... in some 2nd heaven. Per Jesus in Luke 16 hell (Hades) is across a great fixed gulf in Paradise, a place of separation away from God.

Per 2 Peter 2:4, hell has a place like a solitary confinement where the angels that sinned are kept in chains until The Judgment. The Greek word for "hell" below is taratoo, which is defined as the deepest part of the abyss, or bottomless pit, which is IN HELL (Hades).
