I've often said that the O.T. is very badly translated and much misunderstood. For instance, I repeat that after Yahweh revealed Himself to the Hebrews, everything that happened was attributed to Him, even those things HE did not do because the God I know would not do those things. I get told I don't accept the bible as the word of God.

I do. Trouble is MAN got his hands on it. Man was inspired by God to write certain things. God did not sit at His computer and write the book Himself. This has helped me to understand the O.T. much better, but I guess I had to become a heretic to do so. Actually I was taught this by a bid denominational church that I happen to trust with history.

Yes, and as I said, you were attending a congregational assembly, not accosted by some stranger on the street. It was your choice to attend such a service and in the venue of a congregation truth should be declared. Of course, I've never heard of the "first oneness" and would not be inclined to automatically consider them born again Christians without knowing the gospel being preached by them (many cults call themselves Christian as well and preach a different gospel. e.g.: Jehovah's Witnesses.)

We went to that assembly because it was part of the denomination to which the people who won us to the Lord belonged. That brother was very careful in how he expressed it, but I know he regretted having led us there.

Cults are generally easy to identify as they make themselves the authority for all interpretation rather than allowing members the freedom of being taught by Christ. A biblical understanding of authority in the church makes leadership into servants, not lording it over the congregation. Christian leaders are meant to lead by example.

As I stated previously, Christ and His Apostles defined the hierarchy of His Church, and if anything it should be the opposite of that of worldly institutions.

If we never stop sincerely seeking truth and loving even any part of it that we do not understand, we will never be deluded. People following a leader blindly instead of also continuously searching for truth personally will find themselves deluded. We might, according to your definition call that a cult. The reason I don't is because I rarely if ever have that much information about such groups. I have met blind individuals, but never a group where everyone was blind... I won't say there are none, but I have insufficient facts on which to base a final judgment... even if I was empowered to so judge.

The Lord defined the word of God as truth, so I assume the apostle was referring to a love of the word of God. Those who develop no love for God's word would be inclined to follow falsehoods and be ensnared by legalists, false Christs, false prophets, vain philosophies, etc.
