just got a visit from two calvanist baptists at my door who tried to tell me about their most intimate relationship by handing me a track......

They wanted to know if I was saved and i told them that I had faith that the good work Jesus had started within me would be completed.......apparently that wasnt good enough.

One, asked me what church I attended.....catholic was not the right answer either

He asked me what Heaven was and i quoted Luke 17:21

Then, he asked if I believed in the Bible and whipped out his King James......when I reminded him that I had just quoted scripture - he seemed to become frustrated.

When I asked him what he thought Heaven was - he said perfection and I asked him what perfection is and he said ‘I don’t know’. Then, he told me that he was just trying to share the gospel - i invited him to proceed.

He declined because, according to him, I am arrogant and a mocker and a scoffer.......and told me that he was worried about me going to Hell in a quite angry tone.....when I asked him why he appeared so angry, he denied it.

It do have to admit that i still find it baffling when strangers come to my door and get angry when I do not go along with the program they have prepared for me...

So anyway, after fully recognizing that I wasn’t in some petty argument online.....I sent them on their way (and yes, they were ready to dust off their feet for sure).

So, is it effective to witness to strangers at their home with tracks?

I vote no

Goodness..what on earth kind of "witness" is that!!
They are out there blind..and trying to lead other blind people ..the blind leading the blind. :(
Such is Christendom, Lord help those they speak to.

My bet would be that they were 'sent out' by their church to get people to their church. Most churches are only interested in "church numbers"..that's where the money is...numbers.

I thought they were JW for a second, but nope - they informed me that they were real Christians......not even caring if I happened to be JW

I got to say it........Christians can be the most obnoxious, rude, and entitled people I’ve ever met. And I am not excluding Catholics - in fact, I have been shunned by more Catholics than Protestants by quite a margin

I enjoyed reading that because I could tell the same sstory almost ver betam. Scary thing is you are Catholic and I am non denom... I fot different questions and they were JW's.

But what I find interesting is that you and I, Aspen... While we may not agree, we both know the Bible. I too threw them for a loop cause I coyld quote scripture and had knowledge of context of their talking points.

When they showed up and told me they wanted to talk to me about Jesus... I said, "ok. What do you want to know?"

Sure... A bit brash. But it throws them for a loop. Especially if you can talk. They have their facts and their script. But they are unprepared to discuss the gospel with those who know it.

I don't hold anything against those who witness from door to door. But these folks are clearly on a membwrshio drive. They are looki g for members and thus, money.

We had some really cool ones visit us just before Easter. They just said, "Hi, we are from the church down the block and just wanted to invite you to spend Easter morning with us if you didn't plan to be somewhere else. We're doing breakfast, by the way." They left a card and waved goodbye.

While I agree your visitation of someone witnessing to you was a bad one and certainly not Christian, that doesn't mean they are all like that. Now of course you have the right to tell anyone not to come to your door witnessing to you, it's your home. I do have to say though if I'm going to judge something not should happen such as witnessing because I had a bad experience I would have to be against all witnessing in any form. I think however that would be unreasonable just as I also think it's unreasonable to be against all door to door witnessing because of bad experiences, they are going to happen no matter what form of witnessing it is, there are a lot of fake Christians out in the world.

It tend to think deep speaks to deep. If you are going to talk to me about your closest relationship we had better have a close relationship

I believe door to door witnessing with or without tracts can be effective, if done correctly. It should be done as part of your local church's effort to evangelize their area. And those that do it should be mature believers in Christ with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. This is a big error many churches will make. They will send out those who just got saved to do this. That is not good for them or those they go to.

Also, I would not send women out to do it, because the world has gotten a lot meaner. You don't know who is behind those doors and for safety reasons I wouldn't. The world today is taking an aggressive posture against the Church.

If you see a 'no trespassing' or 'no solicitors' signs, then respect them and don't intrude. Your witness will never rise above your ignoring their wishes on this point.

Be brief and to the point taking as little of their time as possible. You can tell immediately if they do not want to hear what you have to say. If that is the case you thank them and leave the tract with them with your churches address and phone number on it. Choose also a good tract to present them as they will have a chance to spend more time with it than with you.

So, if you do it, know there will be dangers there. Know some will be rude and offensive towards you. Know the dangers that may exist. And if led of the Lord to do it, then go, with your church behind you.

Deserved to be shunned? I don’t think anyone deserves to be shunned, unless it is for disiplinarian reasons and reconcilliation is the goal.

"Ignore" is not the same as shunning. A Catholic community that practices shunning is not Catholic. A priest who officiates a same-sex "wedding" gets excommunicated, not shunned. Paul and Barnabas didn't get along very well either.

The Benedictans, Franciscans, Dominicans, and Jesuits were having a big meeting that went well into the middle of the night. Suddenly all the lights went out in the meeting room. The Benedictans immediately started chanting Psalms glorifying God, the Franciscans took out their guitars and sang songs praising all creation, and the Dominicans began preaching about the metaphysics of light and darkness; meanwhile the Jesuits went to the basement, found the fuse box, and reset the breaker.

My pastor said never invite someone to church, because people can lead people astray. But invite them to read the Word of God and share with them the Word of God, because that is what is going to save someone's soul from He'll. If door to door evangelism is that, then I definitely agree. But be ready to answer any questions.

It takes boldness. I admire that. Just giving out gospel tracts...I have done that before. Who knows, they may read it and it plants a seed in their heart. Tracts are good for newer believers who are not sure how to quite share the Gospel yet. But they are still telling people about Christ through a tract.

I agree about the women. In the Bible God sent people out into pairs. But I still would feel safer with a man along these days. And we have a pretty safe neighborhood.

My good friend Dr Ron Moseley had two Mormon "elders" Come to his door. Ron is a scholar and has done extensive study in Israel. He is baptized in the Holy Spirit which is why they asked him to leave the Missionary Baptist church.

He was at a loss as what to say to these Mormons so just began to fluently speak in tongues praying in the spirit. The mormons were last seen running down the sidewalk. I wonder what it was God had them hear?

I prayed one day for the Lord to send us some Jehovah's witnesses. He sent them the very next day! We started telling them of the things Jesus had done for us before they could speak their stuff and they couldn't leave fast enough. We overcame them by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

For all my unsaved years - 33 of them, every "visitation" team that ever came to see me only told me of their church. Never ever anything about the founder of the church and His love and sacrifice.

I've never been a joiner. Only after the Holy Spirit came abd I was born again did I want to become part of the real church.

The lonely and the social outcasts are preyed upon by cults to swell their ranks. Jehovah's witnesses are much more prolific in Europe than here.

We are the light bearers but but must be led of the spirit and not be of the "some just went" group. Men's programs don't work.

As many as are led by the spirit these are the sons of God.
