What are the nuts and bolts of your Christianity? Prayer? scripture reading? Meditation?
How are you different from the world? Are you disciplined or are you just winging it? Does Christian culture play a role in your spirituality? What is involved in your daily struglle to carry your cross?

Good questions.

For me 'nuts and bolts' is just simple faith. Moment by moment consciousness of His presence.
Without those...no amount of Book learning, parroting verses learned...or even prayer come to that...would hold me.

If by disciplined you mean a certain amount of prayer daily or a certain amount of time per day in bible reading...then no..I am not disciplined...I was for the first 10 years before I got rooted and grounded.
I also believe that we are are consciously "Abiding in Christ" then the carrying of the cross is not a sweat...but a privilege..just as carrying His name is.

Not sure what < Does Christian culture play a role in your spirituality? > means?
Can you ask that one again?

Thanks for your reply. I think Christians live out their faith in different ways and it is interesting to see how they do it. Christian culture is seen in all the unwritten norms we tend to follow. Christians have theor own jargon, entertainment, and political viewpoints.

Does Christian culture play a role in your spirituality?

You didn't answer this bit.
Enlighten me. :)
What does it actually mean to you?

For me, i tend to buck Christian cultural norms. I am not politically conservative for example...i do not share positive opinions of Christian entertainment based on content over entertainment - for example, i never laughed at Mike Warnke because he wasnt funny. I shy away from jargon of all sorts - my profession is filled with catch phrases and technical jargon - every kid is a ‘kiddo’. Catholicism has 2,000 years worth of jargon in Latin and English!

I desire to be a friend of God, not a fan. I do not need all the spiritual gear or catch phrases to feel like I am apart of the body.

Unfortunately, this stance tends to alienate me from the most vocal Christians

How different from the world - If I look at the world to see His Creation, It is Great, But as I see the world from the prospective of other people, I see a very sad, and confused humankind! So My Wife and I refrain from interacting with the multitude! we watch and help as we can, with peoples needs in our Community, We Speak the Gospel to the hearer's, as I work for a hardware store I do get a chance to witness to customers against the store rule!

Prayer - on my knees prayer -Week, as far as unceasing in thought from the heart, pretty steady!
Reading - I have read more sense I came on to this Forum, Mainly to search out what others present from Scripture, I have difficult time reading at length because of my eyes! Just got new glasses a year ago???
Meditation - after WillieT started a thread about it, I am going to try to see if I can quiet my mind to do so!
Are we unlike the world - We do are best to hold fast to the example of our Savior, sometime's not so easy, watching what goes on in the world today, can be very depressing!
Disciplined - Could be better, I do not believe we are lukewarm, but could be Hotter!
Christian Culture - kinda like bygrace---????????????? not sure of your meaning!

Great post - thank you

Meditation is refreshing

I practice contemplation....sitting with God, without mind, emotion, or will.

Your mind will always spin out thoughts and commentary, but if you imagine it as a voice in a distant room - a voice you cannot quite hear.....you will automatically stop pay attention to it and be free to experience God and peace of mind

‘At least he was clean mouthed’

Ha - this is exactly the Christian culture ‘mulligan’ i am talking about. The guy made millions off of people who believed he must be funny because he is a Christian who thinks he is funny.

We do it with Christian movies and Christian music too

The Christian mulligan is the most current form of ‘the emperors new clothes’ i can think of.

Btw, Mike was a complete fraud, but there are other honest Christian entertainers out there that regularly received the Chritian mulligan - the left behind movie comes to mind
