Why does God need a book? Forget for a minute that it has ancient law's that are no longer useful, and many other thing's that are redundant (Like slavery) Now why a book exactly? Can't God just communicate his will to each of us and forget using a book that is 2000 years old.

Good question.
It would be a bit easier if we could all hear as clearly as Moses could hear Him...and Abraham too.
He didn't use a book then...neither with Adam.

Personally it seems to me as if the book is like handing us a 'life test' the questions and answers are in it's pages...much like a map.

I do like your question though.
I guess the book is much like a love letter from Father to us.
( as we know, other people choose to see an angry vengeful God in the pages, that is ready to punish. )
I see Him showing us His plan from Gen - Revelation. :)

And the best thing of all.
God Win's .... :)

Hi there.
You may believe that...and I was 'taught' that.
Back in 1988 I quite believing that....I found far too much in the book that shows that what people believe about even the old Testament people who seemingly " went to hell" ....we a loss of this life.

I do not believe in the 'hell' that most people believe in.

On another thread I just posted the verses from Philippians 2
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. "

I believe that will be the case...how can anyone not believe , bow, and confess, when they see the Lord in all His glory.

The bible is part of an eternal equation. The answers are in the OT...BUT are hidden in the text. God means for people who will one day be kings in the next age...to search out what God has hidden.

Prov. 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter (davar or "word")
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter (davar or "word")

That's an excellent question. God began to communicate face-to-face with Adam and Eve after they were created. And it was God's plan all along to have fellowship (Gk koinonia = communion, which includes communication) with mankind.

Since Adam and Eve severed that fellowship through disobedience, and God was not finished with human beings, He caused His plan of salvation to be written in a book, which all human beings could read, and thereby be saved. The ultimate goal of salvation is direct communion with God and Christ, face-to-face.

While the Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek, the Bible began to be immediately translated as early as the 2nd century AD, and today it is available in every language. With access to the Internet by almost all people, it is now freely available to all. See Bible Hub. [Bible Hub: Search, Read, Study the Bible in Many Languages]

What about all the other verses that specify being tormented & being reserved for darkness.

OK I'll test that.

Why was I born with mental illness? Will the Bible actually answer that.

I know, I know, but doesn't the Bible add to so much confusion. Another point I'll raise is, why doesn't God write more scripture?

I killed no prophet, and I'm not a type of bird.

We don't need any more than what is already there. The application is harder than the understanding, although the Gospel is quite simple.

People insist that it is 'forever'...I don't find that at all.
I believe in The Refining Fire.

I think it is because He wants us to seek Him, diligently. There are many treasures in His Word for those sincerely searching. He knows the heart and will reward one who truly seeks Him.

No the Bible won't answer that but God will. Probably that makes you special (for God).

According to ancient cultures, those who were mentally ill were deemed to be favored by "the gods" and were treated with care.

Since you are now apparently on the outside, try looking only at that Book instead of falling back on what so many individuals and church groups have decided. The answer to your question can be quite simple or quite complex but there will be disagreements on it.
Consider that fire which is God will consume for as long as there is something that is flammable to burn. The fire itself of course always remain. Torment? Anyone who has ever been burned knows who painful it can be, but when something is burned up what pain will remain?

The darkness when it is complete simply is a place where nothing is visible. A non-Christian student of physics might tell you that. If our brain is dependent on vision in to gather data to set in order and/or to draw conclusions. In absolute darkness there will be no data and no order and no conclusions. Before the end there may what we want to call confusion, but only the Light remains, where would any confusion be?

Even you must admit that you must explore other idea's outside what the Bible says. Nothing you've said is pointed out by the Bible, but herein you're doing it, yes, being the investigator, but the Bible forbids extrapolating (Formulating) Idea's that have no place outside of scripture's. So who's looking from the outside.

Why are you posting in a Christian section yet your are an unbelieving atheist? Why do the moderators allow you to post bs yet will chastise believers for certain 'inappropriate' posts?

Go back down to the unbeliever atheistic section where you belong.

You are twisting something into my words that is not there... unless you want to see it there.

I effectively said to look at the Bible without any preconceived notions or biases, but I did say to look at the Bible. People do sometimes read the Bible and miss God's message because they already believe something from their own previous experiences in churches or outside of churches. What I am saying is to take hold of the whole thing [what is written] as a little child. This is scriptural and means simply to do what a young child does before people have impressed their views [good or evil] on him. For you that is a difficult thing because you've already had your "Christian" and/or other experiences and made up your mind about things. You are biased.

Lot of people come to God at the first biased. They cannot really approach God closely until they left their biases behind. If they are unable to surrender to God all of those biases any progress possible for them will be limited by those biases.

"Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." Mark 10:15
