So ladies, when you next use some nice red, remember it all goes back over a century to the suffragettes and Elizabeth Arden.

Did you read the historical paragraph in the OP? Maybe women reading it wouldn't think it superficial from an historical perspective.

I did not know that about the suffragettes - I have a lot of respect for those in the past who enables women to have more rights- although I am not in favour of the extreme feminist or opinions of today.
I believe men and women were created to be compatible and compliment one another- yes, there are many things men and women can equally do, and pay for the same jobs should be equal ect, but I am not a believer that women can do everything a man can do and visa versa.
I do not wear makeup - use to wear it, never very much, now I find I am comfortable being natural.
I use to suffer from acne really badly and make up use to make it worse at times, so at the age when many were really into makeup, I wasn't - so it's never been that relevant.

I don't wear makeup. Very rarely have I ever except for prom and my wedding day/special occasions. I throw my hair in a pony tail or at least get the knots out and beautify the little girl with kisses.

Sounds like what you do is good for you!

Had you heard about the historical aspect, though, as in the OP? (there's also a poll...)

I saw that. I haven't read the wiki, but don't wear lipstick. :) My confidence comes from an inward beauty. Proverbs 31:30

Oh I agree with that, too! :)

(I don't think this spiritual principle and red lips necessarily exclude each other always, though...)

@VictoryinJesus FYI, did you see this recent thread and OP?

followed the link in the OP but I’m not too knowledgeable in this area. I’m not sure where you want the thread to go? Red lipstick has no shock factor in today’s world. Red lipstick is tame compared to women on stage in barely any clothing straddling a chair for all to see. What used to be seen or paid for by men seeking affectionate company behind closed doors, is now broadcasted live on national television and celebrated. The shock factor has been raised till there is no shock factor anymore. It is rebellion against anything pure or modest, and goes hand-in-hand with our society today and values; in a world that markets women and children as sex slaves to the highest bidder. I don’t know what else to say...we haven’t progressed but have regressed right into the dung heap. Three coats and you will believe in magic!”

Thanks for your comments; and I agree that it has no shock value; I wouldn't even want to suggest it does.

I thought the historical insight was interesting, how it goes back to the suffragettes and Elizabeth Arden. This was basically my point, really.

(@VictoryinJesus So does this comment maybe make sense at all?)

I guess I am unsure what you are asking from the poll. Red lipstick has no historical significance today. It is just something women like to wear to look pretty. I think it is a good confidence booster and a sign of good self-care, but isn't necessary to look pretty.

I guess the poll - did you happen to participate? :) - partly wonders if, with the 'confidence and satisfaction' aspect, there is any historical memory there also, given its historical association with the suffragettes and Elizabeth Arden.

"I think it is a good confidence booster and a sign of good self-care". Yes, you're right. Very true, isn't it?

I guess that there's a bit of historical memory there with the red lips, I suppose. A lot of women wouldn't particularly think of it, though, when putting it on, right?
