I guess this would be a "Buyer Beware!" message/discussion.

Everyone has an opinion, everyone has the idea of equal access to information and all that is considered "fair" according to our modern society, and indeed these are the times of which it is written that God would pour out His spirit upon all flesh. So whose to say what is actually correct when it comes to the things of God?

Well...nothing has changed on that account. The answer is, God - God is still the one who says whose correct. More importantly, it is still God who is directing the flow of truth to every generation according to His own purpose and plan. And, no, He has not changed His method of operation to accommodate our idea of what is "fair" and "equal." In fact, His M.O. of releasing current revelations to each generation, is and has been, very selective through individuals, rather than a would-be fair and equal broadcast. Moreover, the outcome of pouring out His spirit upon all flesh is not to be considered as leveling the playing field. Not even! On the contrary, "some falls on rocky ground", etc., meaning the end result in many cases is not good, but evil. Yet, some would say that all who have received the spirit of God...are the Church. And, indeed, it is true...the church today unfortunately includes all kinds. Which brings me back to the original point of this thread: Non-Biblical Religious Nonsense.

The warning(s) that I hope to highlight, are:
  • All in the church are not equal under the Holy Spirit.
  • The church includes many people preaching the teachings of men (nonsense) inspired by the measure of falseness that comes from their own evil ground which the spirit of God has been poured out upon.
  • And that the end of the matter is not the written word, for it is subject to interpretations and therefore must be discerned spiritually.
And yet, God is still seeing to His own Word and revelations business as He always has. So...the truth is out there.

We just need to understand all that is in the mix - and be careful.

Nonetheless, God is good, and is here to see us through until the end. Keep the faith!

I would agree with most of your post, Scott. But the last one I would preface by saying that through discernment the written word of God can be explained in such a way that the proper interpretation becomes obvious, and almost indisputable. Jesus demonstrated this ability several times.

Absolutely!

The problem lies in considering the written word as the end all, when it is not the end...but only the beginning. ("In the beginning was the Word...")

All in the church are not equal under the Holy Spirit.
We need to be clear about what "the church" means. Are we speaking about the Body of Christ -- the Church (capital C)? If so, all are indeed equal under the Holy Spirit. I will capitalize "body" in the passage below:

For as the Body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one Body, being many, are one Body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the Body is not one member, but many.(1 Cor 12:12-14)

If this passage does not tell us that all are equal under the Holy Spirit, then nothing will. On the other hand, if you are simply referring to various churches in Christendom, that's another story.
The church includes many people preaching the teachings of men (nonsense) inspired by the measure of falseness that comes from their own evil ground which the spirit of God has been poured out upon.
Again, if we are referring to Christendom and not the Body of Christ, then "evil ground" would possibly apply. Which is not to say that genuine born-again believers do not hold to erroneous doctrines such as Calvinism, etc.
And that the end of the matter is not the written word, for it is subject to interpretations and therefore must be discerned spiritually.
I believe what you wish to say is that without spiritual discernment, the written Word of God cannot be properly interpreted. And that is true. At the same time Scripture is the final authority or "the end of the matter") for every believer.

There is no doubt that there is a lot of religious nonsense floating around. All the more reason to use Scripture as the filter to filter out the trash.

Yes, I meant the would-be Christian church and not the body of Christ. But it would be a mistake to consider all members of the body of Christ to be equal in the knowledge of all things and of having the mind of Christ. Just as the whole body suffers if any one part is under attack, all suffer, but not equally. Likewise with the body of Christ by a multitude of difference, each having their own station and gifts.

No, spiritual discernment is simply the awareness of spiritual things in its most elementary form. I meant to say that it is the beginning of spiritual knowledge.

As for the scriptures being the final authority - they are not. For it is written, that "In the beginning was the Word", not in the end. And also, that it is the Last who is "a life giving Spirit." Both of whom are Christ - in that order.

And yet it is Christ who said: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Mt 4:4)

And where is it written? In the sky or in the Scripture?

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. (Deut 8:3)

God has appointed the written Word of God to communicate with mankind and with Christians. And that is why Sola Scriptura became an article of faith for the Reformers.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, [God-breathed] and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Tim 3:16,17)

To say so, you contradict yourself and God. For before the word was written, God whom is spirit was, whom is also the End. That which is written, He made...and what is made is not Him who made it. You act as if the written word were God Himself, but it is not, and no amount of men's dealings is of any affect. His word is spirit. The written word is your schoolmaster, not the Beginning, not the End, nor God.

Prov. 8:34 Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso finds me finds life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

Watch and pray.
