My husband and I are trying to escape the cold. I've been looking in TX, around the Houston area. But we love the shore so I'm looking in the Florida area too. Arizona is nice but it's so hot and I want to grow a garden. Can anyone offer any advice about either Florida, Arizona or Texas? I don't want to move to a liberal area either. Our state is run by liberals and our taxes are outrageous.

You think Arizona is Conservative?
I thought it was. It's not? I know McCain was bad, and so was Flake, but I thought overall I'd heard the state was conservative. Admittedly I don't know much about it. I heard from a realtor I had to speak with when I was working a few years back. He told me Prescott was supposed to be a good place.

You know I love Texas, but I heard an interesting report about the Lone Star state on Fox News today. Evidently, a lot of Californians have been moving there to escape high taxes, high business regulation, high housing prices, high cost of living, highfalutin mumbo jumbo of ultra-liberalism ;), etc. The report said that realtors are advising home sellers to consider this when preparing their homes to put on the market. I know that Austin has gotten really bad as the seat of liberalism in Texas. (My alma mater is there.) Anyway, it seems that the conservative political climate in Texas is changing.

Hahah...we could be neighbors. Darn liberals! Darn taxes!

Where are you moving from? It might make a difference in where you might like to actually live, what kind of climate, etc..

I heard that about Texas and it gave me pause. I don't want to move to an area that's going to be overtaken by liberals. They ruined California. It's such a shame because it's a beautiful state. The homeless population has skyrocketed as income inequality continues unchecked.

NJ. I hate it here. Bad weather, high taxes, ugly state. Are you in Texas? I'm leaning more toward Florida.

I think California was mostly founded by liberals. Think Gold Rush...

No, I'm in California. Plenty of ugly here too, but we have found a little corner to hold up in that is cheaper, more conservative, and more Christian. Otherwise we were doing the same thing, TX, etc.. I think it all depends on just where in TX. FL might be good.

Are you in northern CA? I heard that's more conservative. Aren't your taxes high? Ours are ridiculous.

Unless northern Cali splits from southern Cali, you would be affected by liberal state laws even in conservative areas....

In CA, northern or southern, conservatism is the exception not the rule. We just bought a retirement home in one of the more conservative little areas, but even that is like 50/50...but where we were was 90/10 liberal, so it's much better. You can actually have a conversation with people, instead of everyone assuming you are rooting for socialism. Yeah, taxes are high, but we are starting to get some of the retirement age breaks, so it's a bit better.

I read that a lot of people were leaving CA and heading to TX for the lower prices. I saw the small retirement homes they have for seniors - they're pretty nice. We stayed in Redondo Beach before. TX is supposed to be the state where your money will go the furthest. I would love to retire to Palm Springs but I'm afraid of running out of money in retirement.

I'm from Texas, so no. Florida is beautiful, but I like to be inland more. Ive never been to Arizona, so Ill say there. Lol.

I really like Indiana. I can't imagine retiring anywhere else right now. But the retirement age will be a 100 by the time I even reach 60, so probably don't have to worry about that. Haha

Can’t run from change. Conservatism is a lie, promising a sanctuary from change. Those taxes you mention are helping the poor Jesus tells us to serve. Best to embrace change rather than try to flee from it.

How come you left TX? I read that people usually never leave there. Wait until you get older - you'll want to get out of the cold. Although there are a lot of older folks at our church who stayed. Didn't the already raise the retirement age? I think that's cruel. They have to make the people on disability work from home. I know people who got on it who shouldn't have and then they stay on it for years and make everyone else support them. It irks me because my family are all working hard and struggling. I saw too many people cheat on it and we're older and still working. I wish God would do something about it because no one else is. Yet they want to push those who do work out to work into old age. Everyone should email their legislators because that's wrong.

A lot of those taxes are being wasted. We know at least 3 people who are cheating on disability. We spoke with a salesman at a local mattress store who told us some legislator's daughter got a free roof on her house compliments of us taxpayers, and when I went to the government building it was packed with immigrant men getting welfare. I don't believe in the redistribution of wealth because God says if you don't work you don't eat. What was originally intended for good to help the poor, has evolved into a paycheck for the lazy and malingerers.

Is Plant city nice? Any problems with sinkholes?

Weird. I know of 5 friends using tax dodges to avoid paying the taxes they owe.....makes me wonder how much money is wasted between your friends and mine....
