I watched this British doco about tattoos and it seems that some folks just like their bodies tattooed whereas some people don't.
Angelina: You posted this a while back; yes, there are a lot of documentaries out there about tattoos, aren't there? Some of them are quite interesting, right?

Some of them are in series that have run a number of editions.

I wonder what John's apocalyptic visions would look like if accurately portrayed?
Interesting thought!

A lot of Christians do use faith based tattoos as an evangelistic tool; they are proven effective in witness conversations.

I saw a quote from the Bible Belt which seemed to show just how widespread they are.

I still hate 'em.
"To me" ..Faith based ...is just trying to white wash the issue and justify how a person can be like the world and have a tat.like them..

My grand daughter has some...there she is in her beautiful $5,000 wedding dress , and a black rose on her shoulder...and not a small one either. It made me sad, not happy.
( neither did spending $5,000 on a one day wedding dress ha! )

But, each to their own. We are each responsible as to what we have done in this body.

Blessings...Helen

$5,000!!!!!! Yikes! I got into the wrong business!

As I said before, she did it to commemorate a milestone in her mental health treatment or something like that.

Well, it must have been very meaningful for her, anyway. (Good she is going better, mental health-wise.)

Some ppl who can't see the point of tattoos don't see that for others who may be motivated to do it, they can been very meaningful. As I'm sure you've realized.

@Dave L

FYI, Here is the quote from the Bible Belt, which shows just how prevalent it has become:

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

Seems like a lot of Christians are motivated to get faith based designs inked in.

@Acolyte - above post - seems to have gone in a group and seems to have regretted hers, but I wonder if with more time to consider the design a lot more ppl would choose a design that they would continue to like.
Long before I was really striving to serve God my step-father and my uncles convinced me that tattoos served no good purpose.

Serving God has reinforced the belief in me that there is no good reason to get a permanent tattoo no matter the subject. Others will do what they want as it is their choice to make but I would recommend having a real 'on the road to Damascus experience' before making a nearly irrevocable decision to mark this body on loan to us from God. We are really not our own... and God who spoke against such things in the OT has never changed.

Butterfly: Do you think your sons (& daughter?) have finished getting ink now?

Often if one family member is still getting ink, other family members end up still being open to the idea also.
No, my oldest son adds to his tattoos every year, although I am sure that may stop eventually. My middle son does want to get more done but is a little bit more sensible with money, so he will only get more done if and when he can afford to. He has just had his first child , so I doubt he will get more done for quite awhile

Since your sons either keep getting more done or wanting more, do you think that for them it still makes them feel good to do it?

I remember you also said about yours:
I got it done when I was 50. ..I have a clear conscience and have never regretted getting it done.

Seeing as your yourself are tattooed without regret whatever, I wondered if it also is something that they too indeed still feel really good about?

Congrats. on the new grandchild, btw! :)

My "tattoos" are are temporary put on with black marker. I write scripture references on my wrist and they wash off eventually ...
Frank Lee:

Do you like, or can you at least understand, why a lot of Christian young ppl seem increasingly to get Bible verses tattooed on their skin?

(My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed om her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also. And they are proven conversation-starters, also...)

My daughter is a unique soul! My other daughter Joanna, was killed in an accident in 1997 at 15 years of age. She was very bright and intelligent and wanted to be a writer. When she died the Holy Spirit told me that he was taking the anointing that was Joanna's and giving it to Laura so that she would indeed have a double portion. I've seen the truth of this with my own eyes. She went through college on music and academic scholarships, graduating summa cum laude with degrees in English and history. In high school she won the governor's award in music for her playing ability. Only one to a school is given each year.

She excels in everything at 30 years of age and is working on her masters degree in environmental management.

As to her tattoo she makes her own decisions! Trust me on this. Hahahaha
