This is something I tried to ask my mom about. I was baptised as a baby, is it all I need? I don't want to put Jesus back on the cross, I just want the salvation, cleansing, filled with the spirit.. my faith in Him is strong, my repentence true.

Wasn't sure where to put this, please move if it's in the wrong forum. Ty

You need to study for awhile and put your mind at rest. In the NT they baptized believers by immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ. The personal name of the triune Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Yes, you should be baptized. You haven't been baptized yet as you made no confession of your faith as an infant. You won't be putting Christ back on the Cross. You will be pleasing Him in being baptized.

Does this mean join/declare a church? I confess every night. Very hard to find a church these days, don't want to get caught up in new age and the others want you to be a member.

My mom yelled at me and told me I said her brothers and sister were all in hell. Our beliefs are different, she lets the minister tell her the bible, I read mine.
She said so now you believe like the Catholics. And then the look. (the one all displeased parents give) See by joining a church it seems you already look down on other churches.. I refuse to do so. They all have their drawbacks and perhaps insights.
I just want to do what Jesus said.

Yikes......... It's hard to make a call on this. After God converted me I began looking for a church to baptize me. I landed briefly in a Pentecostal AOG church. But probably any Evangelical or Baptist church would baptize by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Which is what Peter and the apostles did only using the personal name of the holy trinity, Jesus Christ, instead. So either way, it is a believer's baptism. Sprinkling babies isn't really baptism since the word means to dip or plunge into.

I believe it is important to have a fellowship of local believers. It doesn't have to be a traditional church. It can be just meeting with one another on a regular basis at your homes.

Membership would not or should not be required though there is nothing wrong with having a membership. I would encourage every fellowship or church to have a good statement of faith of what they believe. Not only does this help those who want to join your fellowship or church, but it makes it easier to contend with false doctrine if it enters your church.

You are right, it is difficult to find a good church today. But, it's important to keep looking.

Concerning your baptism, you don't have to be part of a local church to be baptized. Any believer can baptize. It can be in a creek, lake, river or swimming pool.

I don't believe a person can baptize themselves. That sort of takes away from there being a witness to it. Any Christian can do it.

Did you feel stronger in Spirit?

Was hoping it would help me remember where to find scriptures. I remember what I've read, but not where to find it. I keep notes but hey, 3 notebooks for 8 books.. just another place to hunt. o_O

um. well i did at the time, but i was seriously drunk on tares ok, thought Jesus was returning, thought Rapture, thought i would become an immortal, i had every definition lined up with mainstream Christianity, iow completely whacked, meaning no offense. But i guess the best way to learn that is to go through it?

or i mean you might examine why you are even contemplating baptism, and be guided accordingly. Imo if you are walking your path honestly, following Christ will present as a series of like disappointments, lessons in how to do it wrong lol, as weird as that sounds. I did everything wrong, every single thing, before i got the impression i was doing them right. Fwiw there is a real baptism that you will still endure, when you rebound ("repent") i guess, but you may not feel right in your spirit without having done (re-done) the ritual, too. Imo like the Scripture says, "let it be so for now," which is imo another inspired verse that describes the situation well.

Personally I think that if you have now become a Christian, you should be baptised as a believer (ideally by immersion, but it will depend on the practice of the church that you join).

Does this mean join/declare a church? I confess every night. Very hard to find a church these days, don't want to get caught up in new age and the others want you to be a member.

You should join a church! You are now part of God's family, so you need to put this into practice! Maybe not the same church that your Mother belongs to, but you should try to find one that is reasonably Biblical (no church is perfect by the way, so don't insist on perfection). And what's wrong with being a member of a church? My parents were very annoyed about me getting baptised (I was 18, and had been christened as a baby, just like you) and becoming a church member, but it was the right thing to do. And it doesn't automatically make you "look down on other churches".

Can another christian do it? Can a person baptize themselves?

NO! You can't baptise yourself, and you shouldn't be baptised by a lone individual unless there really is no other option. You should be baptised by a church leader who can give you an official certificate, in the presence of witnesses (the congregation, and ideally some unbelievers as well). Baptism is an act of commitment to Christ and an act of testimony. Both of these must be public events (like a marriage).

Baptism is a topic that has a lot of diverse views about it in Christendom -- what it does, why to do it, who should be baptized, who should baptize, etc.

I would first recommend studying scripture, beliefs, and speaking with God about what His Truths are. And then follow Him.
Does this mean join/declare a church? I confess every night. Very hard to find a church these days, don't want to get caught up in new age and the others want you to be a member.
Finding a group of believers to be with is also a great early step. I won't get put off by "becoming a member" since what that phrase means is so variable from group to group.
My mom yelled at me and told me I said her brothers and sister were all in hell. Our beliefs are different, she lets the minister tell her the bible, I read mine.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with your mom. Learning how to love people with other beliefs is a hard step for a lot of people.

You'll get a variety of answers to these questions throughout Christiandom.
Did you feel stronger in Spirit?
Answering personally: yes, very much so.
Was hoping it would help me remember where to find scriptures. I remember what I've read, but not where to find it. I keep notes but hey, 3 notebooks for 8 books.. just another place to hunt. o_O
Haha-- don't worry, you're remembering the important part. If you have a "what verse said..." question, Google can solve that for you. It's much more important to remember the message and the impact.

Let's face it. Being baptized as a baby is meaningless. In Scripture baptism FOLLOWS conversion, and also follows the receiving of the gift of the Holy Spirit. And that follows OBEDIENCE TO THE GOSPEL. So if you were saved as an adult or young adult, that was the time to have been baptized.

Since babies cannot respond to the Gospel, they should not be baptized. But because the Catholic church teaches baptismal regeneration, and because the Protestant Reformers failed to reject infant baptism, you will see this practice throughout Christendom.

Acolyte seems to have avoided that trap wadr :)
What "trap"? If you think that when people get saved that is a trap, then you should move on to a Muslim or Buddhist or Agnostic forum. You seem to be trapped in warped thinking and chances are you will remain there.

No, there is only one baptism if you got baptized again it would be meaningless and just make you wet.
