i am giving up campaigning for my understanding of the Truth of God and my Church and my opinion. I will state it, discuss it, but I will not insist that you all see it my way. I will put relationship over doctrine. If you practice Lent, what are you giving up?

Shouldn't we be practicing "lent" throughout the year? Is there anything biblical about the ashes, other than ashes to ashes and dust to dust?...I know it is mans "tradition" but is it a biblical principle?

I just use Lent as a time of reflection and to practice a new habit.

Is Ash Wednesday a prelude to the mark of the Beast?

I remember freaking out one time when I saw people practicing it...I would have thought that I was in the GT if my wife hadn't told me that it was Ash Wedenesday and what it was all about.

At least the symbol in it is the Cross, so it isn't the mark.

But might it be conditioning so that people will receive the mark in their forehead or in their hand?

With that kind of logic, I guess any hat with words or a symbol might also be the mark of the beast...

I wonder what it is like to walk around in everyday life being so fear based....

There is no need to be mean about it...

I used to be very fearful of the GT...now that I am more secure in my salvation, I understand that I will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air before all of that begins to go down.

Although, if the RFID chip ever became mandatory to be able to buy or sell, I would choose starvation rather than allow that to touch my skin.

I already removed moles from off of my hand with a cauderized knife (and a good thing too, because they might have been cancer); and if anyone ever forced the RFID chip on me I would do the same thing again, to it.

Because biblically, to have the wrong mark on your right hand or forehead (i.e. 666) is everlasting condemnation...and if you call me crazy for believing that, then go ahead and take that mark yourself and see where it gets you in eternity....see Revelation 14:9-11.

You had better be fearful because the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge...it is even equated to being wisdom in Job 28:28.

The only biblical example is the forty days of fasting by Christ immediately after His baptism, during which the devil tempted Him to no avail.

It would appear that the idea of Lent (forty days of fasting) began with Athanasius in 331 AD. But he claimed that it was a universal practice in Christendom at the time, and urged people to maintain this fast.

Ash Wednesday was a Roman Catholic practice where before Mass the priest would put *blessed* ash on each person's forehead to remind them that they are dust and will return to dust. But ashes are not dust.

All the best aspen, I seldom join in lent but think it is a good discipline - they reckon that habits take 6weeks to become established, so I figure lent could be a good starting point..........
I am hopeless at giving things up ........xxxx

Lent, Easter and Christmas all came from paganism.
I agree about Christmas , well most of it I do see as paganism ( but I still celebrate ) not sure about lent as it can be a good starting point to break old habits - giving things up as a discipline is not a negative. Easter, well I get the Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies ect, but once again remembering the cross is never a bad thing.....
It sometimes feels as if some people on the forum believe they are the ' Christian police ' and have the role of pointing out everything they think is wrong !!

God has called us to be watchmen.

Eze 3:17, Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
Eze 3:18, When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Eze 3:19, Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
Eze 3:20, Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Eze 3:21, Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

Eze 33:2, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
Eze 33:3, If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
Eze 33:4, Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
Eze 33:5, He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
Eze 33:6, But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
Eze 33:7, So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

Hos 9:8, The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.

There is a time and a place, if aspen has decided to stop doing something because he is challenged too, then why make it negative and jump in and tell him it's pagan , that is basically telling him ' it's wrong ' ( at least that's how it came across )
Why not encourage his choice , why not support the decision
