Do you mean her name, or what she represented, or what? ;)
yes? lol
Do you mean her name, or what she represented, or what? ;)

I think it was in post #192.

Aspen said-
Hmm
I love Mary and all, but she did not perfect Jesus.....remember he was with God from the beginning and therefore perfect from the beginning.

I responded with:-

"No I did not mean that...what I was meaning was, Jesus was born of Mary- flesh. Therefore He had within him humanity so He had the 'potential' of committing sin. Therefore His victory over it was greater.

If ( as some believe) He could NOT sin, then there was no contest and and no victory of the Last 'Adam' over sin. Old Adam , in a way, had the victory over his tempter in the Last Adam.

God always wins. And we will see that glory at the very end. God wins."

End quote .
well, while your individual perspectives are surely valid, the Q of "how many women under the cross" and even "at the tomb" has not been addressed yet, and imo what we are doing now is individually representing those "different" perspectives in Scripture. Iow one may perceive Mary as Madonna (holy) and another as Jesus' human dna, while there is a third possibility occluded from us--if we are ignorant of how His contemporaries would hear "virgin" anyway, which may be debatable--that being the virgin (Athena, iow) will be with child
If ( as some believe) He could NOT sin, then there was no contest and and no victory of the Last 'Adam' over sin. Old Adam , in a way, had the victory over his tempter in the Last Adam.
Who defines sin is maybe a pertinent Q in that context. Is whipping retailers at the Temple a sin, or not? Yes, and no, yes?

nice, yeh. We might also consider how slanderous and dubious the religious "industry"--501c3, etc--is also; the very backbone of Christianity.

Understandable. It is much different. Basically, it means that we will become perfected and brought into perfect Union with God. Right now we are in relationship with God - in Heaven we will be in perfect Union with His will and loving others perfectly (without sin)
Why wait?

Like what have you found so far?

"sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".
Not so big on the "bitterness or Rebelliousness" def tho. Could be the same as the name Miriam or Maria too :)

@brakelite and @"ByGrace" I was going to take a break. And I did. The first thing I delved into showed me that the conversation we were having is actually one that theologians have wrestled with, under the category of Christology.

I read many articles but chose this one because of the easy way the author writes. I thought you guys might like to read it.

isnt that intersting tho hmm. Alla names the mother of Jesus--or Christ, depending upon you pov i guess--could have um "had," and she "had" Mary.

isnt that intersting :)

yeh, comes from Miryam i guess, all three, and a...plausible theory is maybe that all three are aspects of the same um Character, who is after all multi-faceted, Madonna, Athena, Egyptian-bitterness-rebelliousness but also beloved or love. The Abarim have a great treatise on this, ive posted more than once, sitesearch prolly "Mary, Maria, Abarim" or similar

fwiw bitterness is likely a...an inadequate interp of the derivation of Mary from myrrh, which a better one might be strong or even potent. Aaand we have a story about a "bitter" Queen too, who was that...i forget. Her adopted daughter married ol' whats his name after her own husband died and they "returned to Israel?" "Call me Mara?" So iow call her Mary

why not say, "God is the head of JESUS?" why used the title christ? ... well. and why not "the head of the (woman/Wife) is the (man/husband). the head of every man is Christ.
I always wonder why a lot of people seem to prefer to say Christ instead of Jesus. Jesus is his name, but Christ means Messiah. There is power in the name of Jesus the name above all names but some people don't use it and like I said I wonder why.

I prefer the definition "wished for child" over the others. But, I suppose she could well have had some of those other ... traits? She might be blessed among woman but, she was still in need of a savior, she was not "without sin" IOW. :)

I always wonder why a lot of people seem to prefer to say Christ instead of Jesus.
Because after the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, He was declared to be both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36). Thus the New Testament repeatedly calls Jesus "the Lord Jesus Christ" and the Bible says that we are to confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead. Today the proper designation is "the Lord Jesus Christ", as you will find in all the benedictions at the beginning of the epistles.

ROMANS
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 CORINTHIANS
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 CORINTHIANS
Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

You are now questioning how the Holy Spirit has expressed God's truth. And that is because you have a heretical view of the Trinity.

Jesus is indeed the Christ, and the Holy Spirit chose to say "the head of Christ is God", because God (the Father) has made that same Jesus BOTH Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).

Yes, and "head" is a metaphor for authority. So what that verse is saying is:

1. The head of Christ is God
2. The head of the man is Christ
3. The head of the woman is the man

The doctrine of headship is generally ignored by Christians because there are few who teach the reason for Christian women to cover their heads during worship.
this is exactly what Im talking about. Christ is Jesus, so? is not Jesus God? .... well. see your ignorance. Christ is the flesh of.. God. the Holy Spirit express God word correctly, unlike ignorant men, (smile) who turn the truth of God into a lie. Jesus the Christ is God in flesh.

your second enquiry, God (the Father?), that's Jesus, supportive scripture, Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace".

yes, that "Son" who you ignorantly don't know or understand is the "Father" shared in flesh. ......

so we stand on the truth, God/Jesus is the Head of that diversified flesh called "Christ".... (smile) ... lol, man oh man when will they learn.

ever learning but never able to come to the truth.

Yes, Jesus the Lord and the Messiah.
I know he is the Christ but his name, the one which is above all names, is Jesus.
Pearl you're on point, and correct. many miss the title instead of the Name.

Good spiritual eyes that see.

General edification, know this. the ARM of God is Jesus ... the Christ, God's own "ARM". supportive scripture, Isaiah 63:5 "And I looked, and [there was] none to help; and I wondered that [there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me".

his own arm, his "OWN" ARN? let's see, Isaiah 53:1 "Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?Isaiah 53:2 "For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him".

God "OWN" ARM is God himself in flesh. BINGO.

Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace".
That verse names all three persons of the Godhead/Trinity.

?
sorry? what do you mean here, "you prefer?"
you have preferences, expectations, iow, where Reading is concerned?
hmm. Not being deliberately obtuse, sorry...just never occurred to me!

But, I suppose she could well have had some of those other ... traits?
ah you do, ok
She might be blessed among woman but, she was still in need of a savior, she was not "without sin"
ya, dont care about that even a teeny liddle bit, sorry! :)
