If God is speaking to you in an audible voice that would be special revelation. If that were true, it should be added to Scripture.

I agree that this is the problem with people claiming direct commands or words from God.
But we have the ministry of prophets, which Paul approved of in his time, and prophets told of his future
if he went back to Jerusalem.

If one takes the parable of the seed and the sower, the seed is the word of God. It is planted in the hearts
of believers and grows to produce more seeds of God. Now these seeds are the living word of God in their
hearts, not scripture, but the meaning and intent of scripture.

We are given the Holy Spirit who teaches us the path and the walk through Gods word and speaking to our
hearts. Most times this is enough, but sometimes He will lay an issue on our hearts that we respond to.
These are words of faith or knowledge. And this is special revelation, but is often specific to a situation and
a need. And put simply it is for the people involved no more no less.

The nature of the Kingdom of God is the Holy Spirit leading His people. You cannot bound it, and certainly
restrict what God will or will not choose to do. Praise the Lord.

Show me where God said HE would no longer speak to man I will show you a gazzilion places where Jesus said HE would.

Joh 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
*sigh* the question is not IF he speaks, it is HOW he speaks.

Yeah, they also tried, and failed, to raise a girl from the dead in December. These people belong in insane asylums.

Insanity is when you cannot cope with normal life and normal daily tasks. It means you are a threat to yourself or to others.
These folk have good intentions, and hope to bring spiritual wisdom and power to earth through ceremony and emotional experiences.

Paul went through purification ceremonies at the temple, expressed his faith through prayer, good works, love and action, but
not the things Bethel is following. Clearly walking the straight path is not high on their priority, or repenting of sins, confession and
humbleness in the quietness of ones own room. Talking to the dead, getting involved in Astral travel, and miracles for the sake of
spreading faith appears to be too important to them to legitimise their experience in God.

I know of too many people who have claimed God has given them healing of their cancer, for them to shortly after die. Unfortunately not
submitting to the sovereign God and seeking His face, rather desiring to keep a presence in the here and now rather than rejoicing
at being called home, is a testimony to where their focus and faith really is. And what compounds things, God was not speaking, because
they were not healed. By proclaiming they were healed, and then dying, proclaims by their own faith they are false prophets and false
teachers. This is not me judging, this is Gods revelation from scripture.

22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him

Okay, make it preacher then. People have Bibles to read for themselves. Why do they need you? I don't understand your idea that what you have to offer them is the Scriptures unless they don't own Bibles. In what way you own the Scripture but they don't?
The Bible COMMANDS the preaching of the Word. You realize this right?

There is no such thing as a Protestant church. In fact, there's barely any protestants left Mary. They've all capitulated and returned to mother. The rest will follow suit eventually. According to them the protest is finished. Who's protesting on this forum today? Me, aaannd.......
Lol....No such thing as the Protestant church? o_O

The original protestants started 500 years ago. Some of those men broke away from them in protest because those Protestants were wrong in their theology. Some of those men broke away from those protestants because they thought their theology was wrong. And it goes on and on until we have protestants that say gay marriage, actively gay clergy and abortion is ok with God sooooo your theory that "There is no such thing as a Protestant church" is easly debunked.

The fact is YOU are protesting which makes you a part of the protestant church. ;)

But what is this canon? Who decided it was complete? Why is the Protestant canon different than the Catholic one?

Who decided the canon was closed? You apparently agree with the ones who decided it was closed, but as you see on this forum and elsewhere I am sure, there are people who disagree. It is your belief, but you speak as if it were an Absolute Truth [AT]. While I agree there are ATs, exactly what they are is knowledge that belongs to God and perhaps to anyone who like Jesus has already overcome the world. Anyone else still lives for God by faith. Faith is NOT equal to knowledge although if followed as I believe it, along it pathway, knowledge will be encountered...
Hi Amadeus,

Do you believe the canon is still open to addition?

Curious Mary

Deut 18:22
Makes me think of David’s cry to let their table become a snare. Psalm 69:20-22 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. [21] They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. [22] Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

So who judges what is correct and comes to pass when time here is short (a vapor) yet God sees the fullness. Who decides what is false? Others around then may have said David was not answered. Nor Christ as many did say “Let His God help Him.” Romans 11:6-10 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. [7] What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded [8] (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day. [9] And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: [10] Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

many prophets spoke things in the OT that appeared crazy. Even in the NT: Peters sheet being lowered and taken up twice.

The Bible COMMANDS the preaching of the Word. You realize this right?

Do you preach dead words or Living words? Point being how many hope the Spirit speaks through them to another person in need and something said takes root and brings forth fruit? David, do you ever share a testimony and hope His Spirit is there to use that testimony to heal another struggling? Do you ever receive a word and follow in sharing that word, in hope God’s Spirit brings life to those words you have just shared with someone? Do you believe all said whenever you go out to “preach the word” is in vain and dead and empty and contains no Life(Spirit)? Does God give those out caring and seeing to the needs of those suffering and needing comfort Spirit-filled living words even in sharing a common bond of “i’ve been where you are.” Do you deny that His Spirit can move a person toward someone at the right time and give a word needed and not a quote? And it also be from God?

We aren't talking about Jesus. Surely you know He has a big difference from the Apostles....
Of course, but where is faith different?

This is not true. I just don't allow emotion to overthrow the Scriptures. I'll stick with the scriptures.
You choice of course, but I would suggest that you talk to the Lord about it in any case. People standing firm in one position without a willingness to open their hearts and minds to any other possibilities can and do sometimes hinder or prevent their own growth. They actually limit God's ability to work in them. Why you suppose Paul wrote admonishing us to Not quench the Spirit? What does that mean?

Opening your heart to God cannot be a dangerous thing can it? On the other hand, closing your heart to God is closing your heart to the One who is supposed to be the Love of your life. If you are married, do you talk to your wife? Do you keep everything secret from her? Are you not here to be part of the Bride with Jesus as the Bridegroom? What does that mean?

Main emphasis was on the hearing....but it is such a huge lesson and so much to quote and cover in one little thread...lol
Just keep on plugging along with the Lord. On faith I guess you mean because comes through hearing the Word of God. However do not discount too much the important of seeing:

"Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Prov 29:18

And Jesus speaks both of hearing and seeing:

"Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear." Matt 13:13-17

Was Jesus speaking you and me as well as to the disciples were physically there hearing his words and seeing his face?

That's not what we are talking about. I've already said the Spirit can prompt and move, but you are not going to get a special unique direct message.

Actually agree with you that we can go off in all kinds of ways in our imagination. that is kind of how we got here, yeah? But see I could suggest imagination also led us to Jesus Christ flying in on a literal cloud, and swinging one big sickle into the earth to gather a vine for the winepress. Yet, when others here which are the very ones you are suggesting as false suggest something different there, they are spit on. who is false?
