The East German guards would have frowned on me taking a piece when I was there. I did pass through to eat an inexpensive meal on the other side. I doubt anything like that is happening anymore.
This was after the Wall came down that I bought a piece (whoever sold it was making a great profit on tiny pieces that visitors were buying...)

I am not surprised that it was not until after the Wall came down someone would even try to sell a piece. Supply and demand, you know. Probably there was little demand when I was even though there was a large supply for anyone willing to take the risk...! That really is not so funny as many people died in the vicinity of that Wall!

Oh it was a killer...a dark period of history...but both the East's and the West's authorities were pleased it was erected: the East (because it stopped citizens from escaping; whereas they said it was to stop capitalism from entering. The West, because it defused tensions with Berlin a possible flashpoint for World War Three to start; whereas they loudly and strongly protested by way of form as the East knew they would; ) but the authorities East and West were quietly happy about the Wall in 1961, though not for the reasons they admitted.

So if this was a village of 100 people, 5, nearly 6 would be born in the 1990s, yet I am the only one that has voted 1990s so far. Does make it sound better though.

;)

So 1970s look like they were very quiet then.
End of the Viet Nam War and Nixon! Not a popular war at all and in the end an unpopular president! Could that have something to do with it?

But I guess it will be a tight race between the 1950s and 1960s.
I am really borderline of both 50's and 60's...I was born in '59...but being a newborn baby I didn't begin to explore my world until after '60

Well I started playing a bit before that while still in high school [1957-1961]. I really got interested in playing when I got out of the army in 1966 but only with friends who also played. I taught my wife the game and we played all the time, but that is all history now. I'll take your word on the best players. I played but never watched and couldn't name a tennis player on a bet. Now I don't do either one. I wish I could play but between, my legs, my lungs and my heart, I suspect I couldn't do it anymore. LOL Just a worn out old dog I guess. Give God the glory! There is something better than tennis.
