Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God (1 John 3:9).
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not; no one who sins has seen him, neither known him (1 John 3:6).
.
Yes .. when in doubt .. quote vague passages you don't understand .. and nor do I in this case .. contradiction bells going off left right and center though .. and you might want to pay attention.
So why don't we start with John 3:3 ..
Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again - "born from above" it says in the footnotes so which is it ... makes a huge difference.. but in any case..
5) Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
Your passage differs than mine ? Standard NIV so can't go much further on this .. but yeah .. very strange.. and with stuff from John it gets that way .. colloquial language is in use here .. footnotes all over the place .. multiple translations.. one has to have a good understanding of the Logos concept .. and few do.
Let me know if you figure it out :)
The lust of this world is passing away; and he that doeth the will of the Lord abideth for ever (1 John 2:17)
This passage hearkens back to Matt 7 "The will of the Father" ..
