I believe that we all have wounding and areas that need healing (physical, spiritual, mental). So we shouldn't shun or judge a brother or sister who struggles with mental illness. It's up to God to heal. I do, however, believe that with some mental illness, there can be spiritual strongholds that need to be dealt with.
Due to being born into a very abusive environment and subjected to trauma from birth, my mind split into alter personalities. It is something that God is still healing. I have received much healing over the last 15 yrs.
Although DID (dissociative identity disorder) is not a mental illness (but a coping mechanism), I can relate to the vast misconceptions, misjudgment and lack of knowledge, as well as lack of compassion within the churches where it relates to these types of issues.

hello Stuart....when all is said and done, all of us have a mental illness of some sorts. I think thats why we struggle with each other to a greater or lesser extent.
God give us patience with each other, in particular teach us to love those so easily labeled by our systems.

I'm not sure i would say there is a lack of Compassion, it is a bit strange from what i have observed during my time attending Church, I think my congregation relies heavily on God for Wisdom which is great and they are being guided to try and take the best approach which is more of a 'hands off approach' let God do his work, let him heal by thine hand, but i do get supported to an extent, my minister really helped when i got unwell in October, I think he helped but it has turned out to be the best course of action for me in hindsight now anyway, He also annointed my head and prayed for me, then i got unwell and my trials were great, i was under constant attack from the evil one, my congregation prayed for me, you see they trust the system that is in place that has been set up for me to help me, they must have felt i was in Gods hands 'and i was' its hard to know what to do sometimes though so i just try and trust in God.

It sounds like you have a church family who is doing the best they know. At least they haven't shunned you. I haven't found a church yet who would accept me. They will until I allow someone close and they find out my history and what I deal with. Then, I get told it's my fault, get prayed over, then shunned ...or like the time my children and I were assaulted (cult retaliation) and I asked for help, I was escorted out of the church by my friends as they told me I didn't belong there.
I knew God had led me there 2 years before and that I was to share my testimony. There was a real need for them to be aware. But I was ejected. Five years later, one friend apologized to me. She said she finally realized that they needed to hear my testimony. (The pastor and several members were multigenerational victims of SRA/satanic ritual abuse, and my testimony helped shed light on their needs.)
But no matter what church I enter, I last between 3 months to a year before things start going south.
People want to be comfortable and your testimony speaks to them of the evil things happening to people now! If that makes them uncomfortable there is something wrong with where they are with God... and they certainly don't want to hear discomforting things. Not every person in every assembly will always be like this, but as you have discovered, even if there are exceptions, too many are and through no fault of your own, you suffer for it!

lol....now isn't that interesting Helen. Don't be concerned bugalugs about not being liked....an unnecessary concern. I do however wish that you would seriously consider new points of view instead of reverting to familiar conclusions arrived at in your younger years. I feel this practice pushes aside new revelations and with it new experiences in growth.What about me? I’ve often felt like you have a problem with me

We all need to grow spiritually that is for sure, no-one person is an Authority, the only Authoruty is..well you dont need me to tell you,
TuKaj you are welcome at my church we are a very friendly bunch and the way things are just now most of the believers are thinking about end times, i am however will not get bogged down with supposition and concentrate on being a good desciple, If you have a testimony it has to be dedicated to god, everything that has happened in the past is supposed to be put behind you when you are saved and even more so when baptised
its a clean sheet as they say, i also take communion when i can and that is a good way to clean my sheet as well (if you will)
Its not nice getting shunned by the mental health online community , a person should have the right to express his or her faith in any circumstances, whoever made up the rule that religion was against the rules needs their head examined its not fair really but this looks like a decent forum, is it busy enough?

Welcome Stuart. The only real way to recover from mental illness is to work with a psychiatrist and psychologist team. If you aren't please do so. Don't go for any witchdoctor cures people might try to sell you like phony exorcisms and the like.

Super, that makes me happy. I have a mental disability, and have been in the system now since 2001, which is 20 years and because of it I am not disabled. Without the medicine I take (just one pill a day) I am no longer paranoid or delusional, although I'm not 100% sane either, but then again is anyone 100% sane?
You will find some abuse here also, please don't let it get to you, we get anyone from anywhere here, and not all are nice like they're supposed to be. Cheers and hope to hear more about your views
