The sad thing is that this type of Christian nationalism is not new. It has had a lot of traction with men like PAt Roberstson and the dominion theology movement.
Dr. Jerry Falwell showed it strong with the Moral Majority until He realized he took it to far and repented and stopped.
We have AFA, Dobson and others all mixing a type of nationalism with christianity. there is nothing wrong with christians getting involved in the politics of America. As long as we keep it in its proper place. But that is the problem . Seeking temporal solutions can cloud our eternal judgment.
God will take care of His children. When believers feel the drought in their soul enough, they will turn back to God and get things reprioritized properly.
But the biggest issue is many believers are sentimental and would love to see America go back to the 50's and early 60's when you could have a nativity scene on a public place, people said Merry Chrismas and the nation had a more godly sense to it. We can't go back, so it causes angst in the hearts of many. It is sad because it clouds our witness and testominy but in the end God will still be glorified and many believers will recover. those who won't will live with misery in their heart until teh rapture or death takes them home.
I think Beth uses a lot of speculation in writing. That doesn't make her bad it just makes her normal as anyone else. But speculation on things falls under the category of preference.
Christian's and their agenda's cannot be judged (15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. - 1 Corinthians 2:15 ). They have a mind and they are free to use it whether we like it or not. When we invoke the God card about other's choices it all gets lost in rhetoric, and more importantly scripture admonishes to not do it.

There is nothing new about the fear, paranoia, belief in conspiracies, hatred, and wicked conduct evidenced by those who name Christ in the United States. There is a lengthy history of evil in my country on their part and the current scheme is but an outgrowth of its predecessor, the mindless hysteria sowed by the John Birch Society. The personality cult of Donald Trump is very much like Bircherism, a poisonous tree if there ever was one.
Those who are given to strong delusion harbor no love for the truth, preferring lies over truth (Jesus Christ is the truth)... falsehood over humility... and a certain prideful malice over loving one's neighbor as they love themselves. They turn upon their fellows with great zeal, embracing their flesh and championing defiled religion which is a form of godliness. There is no love to be found therein and thus they have nothing.
Behold their false prophets which number many: these are salesmen of the nationalism which features prominently in the vile religion they espouse. Donald Trump is their messiah and anyone who turns away from this wickedness is accursed in their eyes. I grieve for them and the worldly lusts they pursue but there is no prayer to be had for those who love falsehood: only an expectation of judgment to come. They are pure in their own eyes but unwashed in their filth.
I'm not dismayed that my statement will earn their condemnation. Like you, I have been watching this forum for some time now and I expect nothing less. The Lord bless you for writing plainly. You encourage me to do the same.

Like Sergeant Preston, huh? Pretty sharp uniform. For me as a boy it was a toss up between that uniform and the dress blues of the Unites States Marine Corps. I never came even close to wearing either one except in my own day dreams...
Too many Americans act as if the old Superman motto were equal to the way of the American Christian:

Nah... that's not Lord Jesus' meaning there in that Matthew 20:22-23 Scripture. Leftists will use anything you think resembles Liberal theology, especially that of God's Word, deceiving yourselves and those with you. There actually is no such thing as a political right and left, those are just labels to represent belief systems.
So what is the difference in beliefs between the Left and the Right? Which one follows Christian Doctrine more?
The answer to that is very, very... simple. The Left follows the principles of Communism via belief in 'world Socialism'. The Right adheres more to literal Christian Doctrine.
However... there are politicians in America today that ride the fence of the Right, posing as Republicans, but are in reality Social Democratics secretly, voting for Leftist ideals.

Well living in teh greatest nation to have existed according ot many, has made american Christians misguided.
Because we have had no persecution for over two centuries we have grown kind of spiritually fat and lazy- that will end. God will whip His kids into shape! It may bring about a lot of pain, but God knows what He is about!
We have so many people constantly chirping about our godly heritage and how it shaped our life for so long. Peter Marshall ( I think) even wrote a book called "The light and the glory", which declared AMerica was teh city on a hill and a light to teh world and we had a special place among the nations of th eworld! Hogwash! We are simply a gentil enation that had been blessed because we did have a godly heritage and generally speaking society had a great respect for Gods Word! Even if they weren't believers! Living according to biblical principles can really bless a nation. But the independent spirit of America thought it by birthright belonged to us! This also is wrong and is being corrected.

Actually before getting involved on this forum but after my retirement from secular work I spent a lot of time on the Lord's work and had little to do with politics. On this forum I still want to avoid politics, but it is almost impossible and also remain an active member.
As to God's meaning of the verses I cited, not many people are as concerned with that meaning as they are with their own political stand and what they consider to be their legal [secular legality] rights as American citizens. They too often only carry the label [Christian] because it has been the expected thing for all or most of their lives.
I probably already know the prevalent definitions of the two, but that difference often, according to what I have seen, has had little if any to do with what most people really want.
How many people really want exactly what God wants? A person would have to be as unselfish as the man Jesus to want that! How many are seriously striving to get there or asking God to get them to such a state of unselfishness? No need to answer those questions.
From what I remember, a pure communism as originally defined when I was in school [graduated from college in 1971] would be a good thing if it would or could work ideally. It cannot because people are selfish. Selfish people preclude as I see it the existence of perfect communism and also a perfect Christianity.
As for "literal Christian doctrine", I don't even like that expression which can mean too many different things to too many different people. Look at the forum! Look at the innumerable different supposedly Christian denominations in existence!

It might be easier to define a doctrine, but that would not help much in walking more closely to the Way that Jesus walked.
Thus communication is a problem as each person in his own mind has his own precise definition for each word, even if he is unable to express it to another person. Clear communication would be a good thing... but who is or could be a good Interpreter?
How about the Holy Spirit? We may agree on that, but probably we would not agree precisely on who or what the Holy Spirit is!

And who is able to distinguish between what is good and what is evil in that mess? Everyone has partaken of that tree:
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen 2:17
Sounds like mostly dead men to me!
Who is, on the other hand, striving to become like Jesus? Should that not be our goal? Do you suppose we can even approach Jesus simply by choosing regularly the lesser of two evils?
Ideals to the Right; or ideals to the Left;.... or simply humbling ourselves so as to become like Jesus now?

Wait a minute, the erroneous idea that being an American patriot is a bad thing is a Leftist-Communist ideology, not an American ideology.
And if you haven't checked lately, since your member info states you live in the U.S., the Constitution of The United States of America defines the U.S. as a constitutional republic, and that is a 'nationalist' idea!
The reason the Communists put out the lie about nationalism and American patriotism being bad is because it is AGAINST their plan for a "one world government"! Don't you realize what 'national sovereignty' per the U.S. Constitution means?? A "one world government" system means to end that sovereign nation status.
Something else, and the Leftist-Socialists trying to takeover the U.S. don't like it, but one of their own, Georgetown history professor Carrol Quigley in his 1960's book Tragedy and Hope, revealed what the Rhodes Scholar program is really about. Quigley was an Insider, and he coined the term "the establishment", and claimed he allied with them, but didn't agree how they wanted to be kept secret. Bill Clinton was a Rhodes scholar, and went to Oxford in England, a Rhodes school. The Rhodes program was started by the Socialist students of Cecil B. Rhodes, a diamond and gold magnate in South Africa that believed in a "one world government".
I used to think that being a Rhodes scholar meant one was really intelligent. It doesn't mean that at all. It means one who is TRAINED TO CREATE LEGISLATION MOVING TOWARDS A ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT! This is why Bill Clinton as U.S. President did so much to destroy U.S. national sovereignty. Obama did the same. But Trump did not! Instead Trump strengthened U.S. sovereignty! That is why the Communist-Left hates Trump so much. Trump reversed many... of their Socialist-Communist policies that was hog tying U.S. sovereignty. So I hope the hypocrites here enjoy what's coming under this next U.S. President, because it'll likely be more of the same as the Obama administration, moving towards world Socialism, and destruction of the U.S. Constitution.
