I notice that anytime I look into politics or other heavier subjects, it just seems to drain my entire spirit. Anyone else experience this? I know I cannot just ignore important matters, but I am not that place yet in my faith where these things don't effect me. I would like it to get to a point where it doesn't seem to steal my peace at all. Coupled with not knowing what to believe anymore as far as world news go, I wonder how much energy, if any, I need to put into it. All I know, is I have had a lot more joy in my spirit since I have cut certain things off. Today, I just looked at some things concerning President Trump again and Biden cancelling Operation Talon...it still hasn't changed. I still am sad. There is injustice being done.

I thought maybe with this, I will give it until the end of Lent before infowars again. God has always protected me and my family, and if anything happens between here and Easter, I will handle it then.

I think every single Christian needs to press more into Christ during these times. He is our rock to help us through all things.

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. (John 18:36)

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:20-21)

I think every single Christian needs to press more into Christ during these times. He is our rock to help us through all things.

Here is a hymn to help.....

  1. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
    Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
    When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
    • Refrain:
      I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
      For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  2. “Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
    And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
    Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  3. Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
    When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
    I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Hi Mayflower,
You chose rightly, IMHO...when I was deep into politics, I was NEVER peaceful and, all it did was cause division and vitriol from many. My TV has not been plugged in for months, just collects dust.

Radio is always on my Christian station so, I get sermons and songs. We are to follow the law of the land and pray for our leaders and, far as I can see...nothing more or less.

Kind of thinking that nobody knows what goes on behind their closed door meetings and 3A.M. votes...Our citizenship is not on this Earth, nothing wrong with voting but, it is nothing but a mud slinging match anymore. I don't believe ANY of them, lol. Do yourself a favor and stay away much as you can. Used to be politics was a private thing between voters, well...not anymore! I wish you well with this but, don't sacrifice your peace sister.

I just vote and ignore politics most of the time. I look at the news every morning and get a little versed in what's going on so I know how to vote. I don't get drained spiritually cause, well, I ignore it most of the time.

The reason I ignore politics is because it's usually shocking and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it except the one time vote of who represents me. In psychology if there is a stress which can not be dealt with it turns into fatigue which leads to either anger or sadness. So perhaps the serenity prayer is a good idea:

I don't know. I stopped looking two months ago, Lol.

I doubt if I'll ever watch another American news broadcast ever again, at least where politics are concerned anyway. Scripture says think on that which is of good report, LoL.

Thanks. I hadnt written anything in years, and had the words on my heart this year. Sort of tied into "His Eye is on the Sparrow." The words to that hymn are very touching.
I get the daily Mass hymns from CatholicTV, but lately, not so good, there have been a few inspirational ones though. Hopefully everyone will get a chance to hear your song! @April_Rose, etc...

Yeah creativity is fun, I made a few childrens books when I was younger, drew the pages and put them into the computer with Adobe Illustrator with a stylus pen. I'm terrible at music though :( My singing is like a dying rooster, lol.

I cannot just ignore important matters

Yes, this is true...and you won't find them (important matters) on the t.v.. I watch pretty much zero of it. When it all comes down to it, and people freak out over what comes over that hell box...its controllers will just shrug and say, "Didn't you know that television was created for one thing? It's all about entertainment!".

Makes it even more discouraging though. I go on facebook and friends with great faith on both sides, are at each other's throats. True things are flagged false. It is just crazy.
