Biblically, when are we told that Christ is returning? Many of the rapture theories hang on this understanding such that we have a number of views as to when the "Rapture" will occur associated with the return of Christ and His supposed second coming to establish His Kingdom on the earth where He will reign for 1,000 years.

I have started this topic so that the timing of Christs return can be discussed from a Biblical perspective with the associated passages that confirm the particular point of view taken.

The lynch pin for this discussion is around the various understandings of when the Tribulation associated with the 70th Week occurs.

Does Christ come soon, before the 70 the week? The Pre-trib view.

Does Christ Come at the mid point of the 70th week? The Mid-trib view.

Does Christ Come halfway through the second 3.5 year period of the 70th week? The Post-trib view.

The $64,000 question that needs to be answered is, "When is the Second Coming of Christ going to Happen?"

Knock yourselves out in answering this question.

The 70 week prophecy was concerning the Messiah, and he came right on time. God's faithful people of the day expected him, in fact some thought it might actually be John the Baptist as he was an outstanding individual during the foretold time of the appearance of the Messiah Luke 3:15. A short time later at Jesus' baptism the voice of God from heaven established Jesus to be the foretold Messiah.

Concerning his second coming, God's people today very well know that the appointed times of the nations came to their end in 1914 and Jesus became the ruling King in heaven, which ushered in the last days which would not exceed a generation until that second coming which is referred to as the battle of Armageddon in Scripture.

Robert,

Since there are no biblical scripture to back up your post, I will only point out that your post only condemned your understanding.

1914 was not the end of the nations as is claimed within the JW denomination. Now the understanding of a "generation," spans anywhere from 70 years up to over 1,000 years. So what you are saying is that you do not know the answer to my question

From scripture we know that the four beasts, the little horn and Satan will be judged in heaven at the some time that the battle at Armageddon occurs. In scripture we are told that three unclean spirits like frogs which are from the mouth of the dragon, i.e. Satan, the beast and the false prophet, i.e. the little horn, are spirits of demons who go out at that time to perform signs and wonders to gather the kings of the whole world to lead them to gather at Armageddon for the battle on the Great day of the Lord.

Now the question that arises out of the Sixth listed Bowl Judgement is: - Have we seen the three unclean spirits going out to perform signs and wonders to begin the drawing of all the nations of the world to Armageddon yet?

If the Judgement of the Beasts as told to us by Daniel has not yet happened, because they are responsible for the send out of the three unclean spirits demon, then the appointed time of the nations has not yet come to the appointed end yet, as you claimed above, in 1914.

Oh well, so be it.

Have a good day now.

No one today lives anywhere near 1k yrs sir. In fact the oldest known person is 119 yrs old according to Google. Which is kind of the way I understand it as well based on Gen 6:3. Keep in mind WW#1 started Oct 1914 the first of the signs Jesus gave. Jehovah's witnesses did not name that war, the world did, but we recognize it as outstanding as compared to all the previous wars as Jesus said. Mat 24:6,7, perhaps you don't. At any rate most faiths believe we are deep into those last days and Jesus is on the verge of returning, as do we.

Ah Robert, your lack of understanding of what a Biblical generation means clouds your limitation in understanding.

A time span of a Day of the Lord and a Generation is interchangeable. Both are slightly longer than 1,000 years and this number can be countered upon your ten fingers with good dexterity and control of your fingers and thumbs. The year in which Isaac, King David and Christ were born, within the bounds of story telling accuracy, confirms the fact that that this is so.

Now you referenced Mat 24:6-7, however me thinks that your are grasping at straws to justify the conclusion that was reached in claiming that "the appointed times of the nations came to their end in 1914 and Jesus became the ruling King in heaven."

Matthew 24:4-14: - 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes/turmoil in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Let us consider when Jesus is given dominion over all of the peoples of the earth such that they should worship Him.

In Daniel 7:9-14 we are told the sequence of the events surrounding when Jesus is given this dominion. First the beasts in heaven are judged and then Christ comes before the Father and is given dominion over the peoples of the earth and a kingdom.

In Daniel 2 we are given this information: -

Dan 2:34-35, 44-45: - 34 You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain, i.e. religion, and filled the whole earth.

. . . . .

44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold — the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."

Robert, God did not set up His everlasting Kingdom in 1914, because no nation had dominion over the Land of Babylon at that time. It was not until the year 1926 that the two ages of the devastation and desolation of the Land of Babylon ended when Britain and France remembered the Land of Babylon once more before God, as told to us in the Seventh Bowl Judgement, and the fourth segment of the statue prophecy came into view. Around 80 years later, the many kings that that formed the fifth segment of the statue, i.e. the feet, came into view and as we are told in Daniel 2:44 it is during the time of these kings that God will set up His everlasting Kingdom.

Robert, the JW's understanding of the End Times is flawed and the accepted understanding that Jesus will shortly appear on the earth in our near future with the "church" to rule the earth for 1,000 years, while on the earth, is also flawed.

It is my understanding that God will establish His Everlasting Kingdom on the earth when the kings of the earth and the heavenly hosts are judged and imprisoned in the Bottomless pit for 1,000 years so that the earth will not be troubled by Satan, the Beasts and the false prophet during this period of time. The Kings of the earth will be judged at a place called Armageddon and this event is in our near future, most probably within the next 20-25 years from now.

It is my understanding that the JW's understanding of when God will establish His Everlasting Kingdom is too early and is out by around 130 years. The revealed evidence so far as to when God will establish His Everlasting Kingdom confirms that the JW's understanding is flawed.

But the subject of this thread is "When are we told that Christ is returning?"

Robert, your digression into what the JW's believe has been an interesting diversion from the question that I have asked.

Oh well let us see if that are other "learned" people out there in the silent void, who feel confident that they too know the answer as to when Christ is set to return to the earth.

Jesus tells us in a parable in Luke that He will come to the earth to judge the kings of the earth at Armageddon, but is that visitation His Second Coming, where he will also sit in judgement of the peoples of the earth?

Yes, but I asked for scriptural confirmation of your opinion.

many believe that Christ is returning soon to the face of the earth to rule the people of the earth with and iron rod for 1,000 years, but i have not been able to back that claim up with scripture.

Perhaps you might care to show us your wisdom and provide the biblical understanding of when.

Matthew 24:29-31 reads:
29) Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30) And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
31) And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

AND

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 reads:
16)
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18) Wherefore comfort on another with these words.

Both citations above refer to the end of the world.

Biblically, when are we told that Christ is returning?
OP ^

Basic review; Order and Way, calling it what it is;
* Son of man revealed from heaven in a body God prepared, on earth, humbled, to serve, and work (ie Lord) teaching, called Jesus, True Word of God.
* Son of man knowledge revealed, IS Christ, IS God with us, in the likeness as a man.
* Christ, informed knowledge, IS the spirit, power and wisdom of God.
* Son of man, reveals minor acts of His power.
* Son of man’s body, Killed, rises up, returns to Heaven, by His Power.

* Holy Spirit descends from Heaven; Converts heartful believing and confessing men IN Christ, and enters the said, Converted...
Ie WITH and IN, the Converted.

Pre-tribulation;
ArchAngel sounds trumpet, IN Christ, (soul saved, spirit quickened, bodily raised in glory/ ie the Converted), veiled bride, rises up to Clouds. (Lords Father’s house).
The Lord our holy teacher of truth, descends from high heaven, to lower heavens (clouds/ie father’s house) to meet His prepared bride.

Tribulation Begins;
7 Seals openings, in heaven, BY The Lamb of God Men on NOT with or in Christ, subject to the wrath of the Lamb.

Descent of a LAMB accompanies 144,000 reserved Tribesmen of Israel, sent to preach the gospel of Christ Jesus, to the Tribes of Israel.

7 Trump judgements upon land and inhabitants of the earth.
Wrath of Devil occurs upon men who reject him.
Men turning to Christ, during the Seals and Trumps, Saved, spirits quickened, body’s killed, Souls /spirits resurrected up to Heaven.

7 Bowls/vials judgement upon land and inhabitants of the earth.
Battle of Armageddon. Mortals against God dying in sin, Angelic warfare. Satan and his band of demons, confined in hell.

** Second Coming ~ **RETURN** of the Son of man who comes WITH Power and WITH His saints and WITH His holy angels.

All EYES shall SEE Him coming. Many shall cry in distress, many shall be joyful.
He and His saints shall occupy the land promised Abraham and his faithful heirs, ie Son of man’s earthly Kingdom. Jesus shall sit as the head of government, in Jerusalem, ie king Davids everlasting throne (established by God.) <—- millennial reign.

A remnant of believing (but not converted) mortals shall occupy lands outside of Jesus’ Kingdom...(live, marry, reproduce, divide their lands, establish nations, having sitting heads of their governments, die a mortal death, next generation, repeats.)
Govt heads, pilgrimage to Jerusalem yearly. At first all Nations heads participate, to return and lead as Faithful heads. Nations increase in wealth, heads begin falling away, ruling according to men. Continues for 1,000 years.

After 1,000 Satan loosed, with his demonic angelic soldiers, Again influences mortals in their Nations, some go along, some do not. Also instigates Attacks on Jesus’ kingdom, Satan is defeated.
Mortals WITH Jesus, saved. Mortals WITH Satan die in their sin.

Satan and his demonic angels, sent to the Pit in hell for eternity.
The rest of the dead are Raised up. Great White Throne Judgement. All see the Judge; ie Jesus, believe, bow, worship Him. Books of Evidence opened. Sentences pronounced. Sentences carried out. Some begin their everlasting life with their Lord God Almighty. Some begin their eternal damnation separation from God.
Heavens and Earth renewed, New Jerusalem comes down from Heaven. Barrier between Heaven and Earth opened.
God with His people forever. Gods people with God forever.

Glory to God,

Robert, when you speak of the Watchtower, what are you referring to?

My grandfather, I remember, would listen religiously to the Watchtower program on the radio around sixty years ago and even then the program was considered to be the bleating of crackpots who had been mislead by their "Prophets" into false teachings with respect to the End Times.

The arrival at 1914, as you suggest, as the year that God established His Everlasting Kingdom in Heaven does not fit with other Biblical prophecies and is based on dates around Babylonian activity and the 2520 years was derived from the number of days that were contained in seven years of 360 days and the application of a year for a day, however, the passing of the sun seven times can only be considered to be solar years such that the "prophetic" time period should be considered to be much longer by up to 37 years.

I know from my own experience that it is so easy to jump to the wrong conclusions and that I have had to let go of my reasoning and allow God to actually reveal His truth to me. Now whether what has been revealed to me is subjective, its acceptance by others is subject to their understanding and not mine.

Around the time of the establishment of the Watchtower society, there was much delusion within the body of Christ, with many "wonderful" theories put forth that have mislead the church and the "resulting cults" badly.

It is my understanding that the JW denomination is one of those misguided "cults" that exists today even though there are some aspects of the denomination that are good and the JW's zeal for evangelising is one such example that the rest of the churches could adopt to their benefit.

Oh well Goodbye Robert.

Matthew 24 & 2 Thessalonians 2

Both of the scriptures you have referenced require much understanding as to what period of time that the are indicating. Perhaps you may like to shed some more light on what they are indicating as both scriptural passages cover a rather broad time period which has been troubles by recent "prophets" who have used these scriptures for their own ends.

By any chance, are you speaking of Daniel 12:12?

Since you did not take into consideration the language written 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17?

Shalom

We should not conflate the Resurrection/Rapture with the Second Coming. As to when the Second Coming will occur, we are clearly told that it will be just after the catastrophic cataclysmic events describe in the Olivet Discourse: Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall (1) the sun be darkened, and (2) the moon shall not give her light, and (3) the stars shall fall from heaven, and (4) the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

The Resurrection/Rapture must take place at least seven years before this happens (if not much earlier).

Shalom
As far as one is concerned Christ Jesus becomes your Lord and Saviour on the day that you truly become born again.
You are then Saved and Jesus becomes your Lord !
That is how when the Kingdom of God will be established, it starts with one - You ! and then as the years progress the % rise ebb and flow until the day that all become born again. now that has taken 2000 years so far, but the Devil rules this world, dominates over it ? but the truly born again understand the fact is that this world is under delusions and deceptions ? as Jesus Pointed this out and shows us the Kingdom of God is the Key ? So we have to come over to the Kingdom of God and expose this world for it's power over the people that leads them astray from God !
But we are in a warfare battle ?
And in that Battle the Devil wins over the majority, like nowadays most people do not have faith in Jesus at all, so the power of Satan increases and then due to such will come the fall ? Hellfire created because such as they will reap what they sow ! and at the end of such a decay all will be spent ? they will have nothing ! and the only way up is to abide in God or you will fail ? All people will be calling for God for help ! because all the delusions will be burnt up ! The Devil can not tempt one if you have nothing ? not to mention when you understand you have been led astray by being duped by a self inflicted love of Sin. not to mention a lack of true respect of your neighbour ?

Our History shows that we are sick ? the Bible points this out ! and Christ Jesus is the only way !
So how do we remedy this situation, well you must be born again !
So what way do you all want to do it, the Hard way or the easy way ? Get Born again now ? or then ?

Once one is truly born again that's it, you are Saved ! you can not be born again twice ? so if you live through the Hellfire you will be as you are now, Saved ! you can not add to such, but the thing is at the end of the Hellfire all will become born again. because they will understand that they have all been lead astray by this world and so the Kingdom of God is set. and this world will be exposed for all to see, no one will be so stupid not to perceive that this world truly is, full of Deceptions and delusions due to abiding in Sin. You must come out from them ! and one will be at the end of the Hellfire or you can come out from such now, if you are truly born again.

If one is truly born again then you are in the Kingdom of God and you will go to Heaven. but if one is not ? you are of this world and owned by the Devil, he is who such a one seeks in fact, regardless of what one may claim. They are part of the problem ! and they do not love Jesus Christ truly at all in fact and do not abide in the Vine ?
