Let me put it this way- which of the two applicants is more likely to-
1- Smoke like a chimney and need "smoke breaks"
2- Drink like a fish and turn up for work sloshed
3- Take days off for no valid reason
4- Selfishly put himself first rather than being loyal to the boss?
Which guy is more likely to change sex and demand to use the ladies' restroom?

I’ve found that I just be me and don’t worry about trying to inform people that I follow Jesus. At the right time, these things come out, and usually from being questioned by others (why are you not freaking out over this? Why are you always so calm? Why do you always seem so happy?) Of course, with that will always come someone who also hates you and wants to sabatoge you. But even there, people are watching you closely for your response to the hatred, to see if you are authentic. Try getting fired when the one who hates your calm peace and your answer for it is actually your boss! Some will say, you need to fight this! But you should, if you’ve gone ‘aways with God, answer that they wouldn’t have been able to fire you unless God allowed it, so it was just time for you to move on and that God knows what He’s doing. You don’t even know if the person God wants to see your response IS THE BOSS that fired you!
Would you get any satisfaction, if after your boss fired you, his competitor offered you a job?

LOL! This actually happened to my oldest daughter! She had wanted to work for a certain "government agency" for YEARS. She got excellent grades in high school and college. Has an outstanding record. In the end, they didn't hire her.

But she was offered a different job with a government contractor. And guess WHO was one of her contracts? :D

She also started in her position at a pay grade that was WELL ABOVE what the first agency offered her.

Now THAT'S m'girl! ;)

hmm…you mean like a…”getting even” type satisfaction? I’d probably just be thankful someone DID hire me!

If both are qualified for the job maybe I would hire the atheist.....
i don't like it when people use "I am a Christian" to get ahead of others.
Secondly, the none believer might turn out to become a Christian when working for a Christian employer.
Thirdly, I have seen some lousy workers claiming to be Christians.

So, there, go ahead jump all over me...

Would you be motivated to work a little harder, knowing you were competing with the guy who fired you?

mmm…no…I have always worked at jobs hard. I remember when I was 16 and got a job at a fast food restaurant, part time, because they only had one shift available for me. At the end of my first shift, I was told to sweep and mop the dining area and I did. When the manager came out he was shocked and said, no one has ever done THAT good of a job! He immediately gave me all the hours he legally could. But I remember the attitudes of the teenagers was that they didn’t get paid much so they didn’t work hard. I thought to myself, but…you agreed to work for the pay they give…

I will say this, a few years ago, I might have answered your question differently. I secretly liked to…get even with people who treated me poorly. But since I have discovered that it’s those who treat me poorly that He blesses and teaches me with, or through, I sort of wind up thanking Him for them. Strange but true.

A good way to gauge someone is to get them talking about themself. If they talk long enough, they will start revealing themselves in small ways. The mask, if they’re wearing one, will slip briefly.
Every time.

Let's suppose two people apply and they both sound fantastic with excellent references and skills and are vey good at the interview, so there's nothing to choose between them.
I've never seen such a case. And as an hypothetical, this doesn't leave room for gut feel or instinct, or the at-the-moment leading of the Holy Spirit.

Much love!

Some years ago when I was unemployed, the Jobcentre sent me on a "Working Links" scheme along with other unemployed, to be taught how to write job application letters, how to speak well on the phone and at interviews etc.
They gave each of us a sheet of paper and told us to write a hypothetical applic letter, after which they said they'd look at it and offer advice on how it might be improved.
In my letter I wrote that I was a Christian non-smoker and non-drinker, but when the tutors saw it they said in horror "Oooh no no no, you can't say things like that because employers wouldn't be interested!"
So if you were hiring, would CB members be interested or not?
Without knowing a person, that they label themself "Christian" doesn't carry a lot of significance with me. Many people do that who are not born again.

Much love!

I'd think twice before I applied for a job at a place which had a nonchristian boss..;)
PS- Some years ago the jobcentre sent me and other unemployed people on a compusory work scheme which involved refurbishing a local Hindu temple but I refused pointblank to go, and got my dole reduced for a while as punishment..:)
I'm employed by two Hindu men. First the company was owned by a wonderful truly Christian couple, missionaries, who used the company to fund their trips. They retired to be full time, and sold to these two men. They have proven themselves to be good employers, and I'm thankful for my position here with them. They are both valued resources to me in helping me do my function.

Much love!

1. If a potential employer asked me about my religious affiliation, I would exit the interview.
2. If a potential employee volunteered his/her religious affiliation, I'd wonder why they were telling me.

In situations like your OP, you ask them both in for another interview, with different interview questions.

I was hired by a small local firm back in the 90's. I was in competition with five other people. Once hired, I asked the woman what the 'tipping point' was for her to hire me. She told me that several of the five were definitely more qualified than me, "But out of those five others, you, Mink, were the only one to send me a 'thank you' card after the interview."
I was hired once after the manager put me off 2 weeks, then 2 more weeks, that went on for months. I called him every time he told me to check back with him in two weeks. He later told me that was why he picked me.

Much love!

@Mink57 A little courtesy and personal consideration goes a long way....

Reminds me of the 10 healed lepers in Luke 17.11-19, only one of whom returned to the Lord Jesus to give thanks.

Sounds like an apt description of some Christians on this forum, perhaps without the sloshed and chimney hyperbole.

People can easily say they're Christian. They say that they believe in Jesus, and yet they can be some of the meanest, snarkiest, loud-mouthed, condescending, selfish, judgmental, lying, unforgiving, militant gossips on the planet.
I actually stayed away from church for a while because of some of those so-called "Christians."

Me too, my friends tried introducing me to various local churches in the past but I always walked out within minutes, and once I even walked out before the service had even begun, and one of the pastors chased me down the street calling "please come back!", it was like trying to escape from Colditz but I managed to give him the slip and made a home run..:)
In fact I got such a reputation for walking out of churches that my pals were used to it, and when I got up to make my way to the door they'd rofl laughing and say "There he goes"..:)

The problem is that, even as Christians, we don't ALL share the same "life doctrines."

I know, for example a daft vicar was in the news a while back for getting his son to bring his air rifle to shoot the sparrows that were nesting in the church rafters.
And only this week the cruel Welsh Presbyterian church booted this old lady out of her home-

Not a practical option in the technology sector. It doesn't matter. Between corporate re-orgs, M&A, promotions, career moves, retirement, etc., the person who's your manager today won't be tomorrow.

Suppose you ran a business and were hiring a new worker.
Let's suppose two people apply and they both sound fantastic with excellent references and skills and are vey good at the interview, so there's nothing to choose between them.
However, one says he's a christian, and the other says he's a nonchristian or atheist.
Which one would you hire?
I would bring it before God in prayer and let him decide. :)
