I would be careful about buying minutes. I used to have a phone where I had to do that, and I never used my phone, but every once in a while, I'd try to make a phone cal, and I could only talk for maybe 5 minutes before it said my minutes were done. Turns out they were double selling, so someone else was using mine.
Consumer cellular looks pretty good, and if you search their website, some of the phones are pretty cheap. Here's one- 27 dollars down 3 dollars per month, and you can add that to a basic plan
https://www.consumercellular.com/shopping/details/moto_g_play_2023/details They have a special offer for AARP too.
I used to use a pay before use cell phone and the reception was terrible. That was about 10 or so years ago. And the minutes were expensive if I remember right. And just getting the card for the minutes and activating it was risky. So I tend to agree.

Earlier today I signed up for Consumer Cellular. Got a smartphone for $99 on sale.
Once it arrives I call them and they help me to set it up. Then I will cancel AT&T!

Actually U.S. Mobile has some wonderful prices, $6 including taxes for their Lite Plan. But doing everything over the Internet with them was more stressful for me.

I got auto pay with Consumer Cellular and did everything over the phone.

I'm going to be looking at Verizon's Visible plan. They claim it's unlimited everything for $25 a month plus fees and taxes.

Check out U.S. Mobile.... it's a good company with very low prices which includes all taxes and fees! I think they have a plan for unlimited everything including taxes and fees for $23.

This was my first cellphone so I would have gone with U.S. Mobile but I did Consumer Cellular because it was easier for this senior citizen. Maybe later I can get the cheaper prices with U.S. Mobile.

It is a bit too late, it seems, @Debp, but in the future if you're looking again, I have TracFone and it is only $15 a month for unlimited texts and calls. $10 if you have it set as a reoccurring payment.

I have had the same one for years, because I don't see the point in changing it and I'm happy with it.

I pay $15 a month plus taxes with Consumer Cellular...no texting. I'm happy with them.

Since it's my first cellphone, they will help me switch if I ever need a new phone.

I only use my phone for phone calls. The updates slowly use up storage space. I don't know if you need to get another phone once storage is full. I'm up to about 56% storage right now.

You might just need someone to help you set up an SD card to increase your storage space so you can keep your phone, but 56% and only for calls, you should be fine for a long while.

I clear the cache of each app regularly.

I noticed each app has a "compress file" option. Someone told me compress file makes the app use less space.

When I tap on compress file, it then asks for a zip file name. So can I make up any name and then the app will be compressed to use less space?

Yes, it's basically just making a zip file to store your files in one folder and remove unnecessary data, but I would be careful about doing it with apps you regularly use just because I think you could potentially have issues getting them to work again. You could test it with one you hate. Lol

You can clear data for apps like Facebook or a browser, but you would need to log in again.

It shouldn't really be necessary for you to do though. Your phone storage should be okay.

I might have to get a cell phone if A T & T is allowed to stop providing landlines in my area.

Is anyone using a cheaper cell service that has good reception?

What about Consumer Cellular? Anyone using it?
Consumer Cellulars provider is AT&T.

Mint mobile is suppose to be very reasonable.

My wife and I have had Mint Mobile for a year now. I pay $20/mo for unlimited comm and 15GB mobile Internet. She pays $15/mo for the same with 5GB. It's been very reliable.

I've had Consumer Cellular for over a year now and am happy with them. Never a problem. And they didn't raise the price either.

I think they also use T Mobile towers besides AT&T towers.
